A Message from Pastor Jason: VOLUME 2, ISSUE 5 MAY 2016 Dear Faithful of the Cabot UM Church, Psychologists say that people need three things to make them happy. First of all, they need some- thing to do. Secondly they need something to love. Finally, they need something to look forward to. I think Scripture agrees with this. However, to be truly happy and satisfied we must make sure that we are doing the right thing, loving the right person, and looking forward to the right thing. Everyone needs and wants something to do! There are a lot of things that we can do to make us happy, but if there is one thing we fail to do we will never be satisfied! I am happy when I go biking. I am happy when I go see a friend or loved one. I am happy when I spend time with my wife or have fun with my kids. None of these things, however, can satisfy my soul! Jesus Christ gives us what we need to do to find true satisfaction which will lead not only to happiness but joy unspeakable and full of glory! Apart from a trust and faith in Christ no one will ever find true joy or satisfaction! We must have confidence in Him as our Lord and Savior. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Fa- ther but by Him. Without Him there is a God sized hole in a person’s soul that only He can fill! Jesus lets us know that after we believe in Him there is still something to doWork. You and I have the privilege to be servants and ambassadors of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Telling others about Jesus involves work. Raising and nurturing our children takes work. Working for the Lord is not a burden, but it is a blessing! We have the opportunity to make an eternal and spiritual difference in our world! Not only does everyone need something to do, but everyone needs someone to love! Some are in love with money to try to find happiness, but the love of money is the root of all evil and many have pierced themselves through with many sorrows going after it. Some are in love with things to try to find happiness there. But things will never satisfy. Jesus said that the two greatest commandments involved love! We are to love God with all of our heart, all of our soul and with all of our mind! We are to love our neighbor as our self! An individual that is not in love with God and not in love with his neighbor is an in- dividual who does not know about true happiness! What wonderful news that we can have someone to love that loves us more than anything or anyone else could! Not only does everyone need something to do, someone to love, but everyone also needs some- thing to look forward to! People that work look forward to getting a paycheck. People that race look for- ward to finishing and hopefully winning. Praise God we have something greater to look forward to! It is a place prepared specifically for us, a place prepared by the hand of God Himself. It’s a place of no sickness, no pain, no sin, no tears! Jesus has gone away to prepare that place and He, Himself will come again to receive us so that where He is, one day we can be! May these summer months be truly happy for you and yours. Pastor Jason

M AY 2016

Dear Faithful of the Cabot UM Church,

Psychologists say that people need three things to make them happy. First of all, they need some-

thing to do. Secondly they need something to love. Finally, they need something to look forward to. I think

Scripture agrees with this. However, to be truly happy and satisfied we must make sure that we are doing

the right thing, loving the right person, and looking forward to the right thing.

Everyone needs and wants something to do! There are a lot of things that we can do to make us

happy, but if there is one thing we fail to do we will never be satisfied! I am happy when I go biking. I am

happy when I go see a friend or loved one. I am happy when I spend time with my wife or have fun with

my kids. None of these things, however, can satisfy my soul! Jesus Christ gives us what we need to do to

find true satisfaction which will lead not only to happiness but joy unspeakable and full of glory!

Apart from a trust and faith in Christ no one will ever find true joy or satisfaction! We must have

confidence in Him as our Lord and Savior. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Fa-

ther but by Him. Without Him there is a God sized hole in a person’s soul that only He can fill!

Jesus lets us know that after we believe in Him there is still something to do—Work. You and I

have the privilege to be servants and ambassadors of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Telling others

about Jesus involves work. Raising and nurturing our children takes work. Working for the Lord is not a

burden, but it is a blessing! We have the opportunity to make an eternal and spiritual difference in our

world!

Not only does everyone need something to do, but everyone needs someone to love! Some are in

love with money to try to find happiness, but the love of money is the root of all evil and many have

pierced themselves through with many sorrows going after it. Some are in love with things to try to find

happiness there. But things will never satisfy. Jesus said that the two greatest commandments involved

love! We are to love God with all of our heart, all of our soul and with all of our mind! We are to love our

neighbor as our self! An individual that is not in love with God and not in love with his neighbor is an in-

dividual who does not know about true happiness! What wonderful news that we can have someone to

love that loves us more than anything or anyone else could!

Not only does everyone need something to do, someone to love, but everyone also needs some-

thing to look forward to! People that work look forward to getting a paycheck. People that race look for-

ward to finishing and hopefully winning. Praise God we have something greater to look forward to! It is a

place prepared specifically for us, a place prepared by the hand of God Himself. It’s a place of no sickness,

no pain, no sin, no tears! Jesus has gone away to prepare that place and He, Himself will come again to

receive us so that where He is, one day we can be!

May these summer months be truly happy for you and yours.

Hello to you all,

Can you believe April is over? Now is the time for some warmer weather, although we did have some great weather this past month—we also had that crazy snow!! Maybe I’ll be able to go outside sometime

soon and get a little sun.

On Saturday, April 2nd several of the women went to Amish Country in Ohio. I heard they had a great time and I think there were a lot of packages that came home with them. On their way home they got into a whiteout and thanks to their great driver, Megan Jones, they arrived home safe and sound.

The 2016 Confirmation Class went to the United Methodist Conference Center also on Saturday, the 2nd, so there were a lot of people leaving at the same time.

On the next Saturday, the 9th, I had to really watch where I was going because of people here cleaning and getting everything spic-n-span. If I didn’t hide, I might have been swept up with the trash. There was another work day on April 23rd. Thanks to everyone who helped.

On April 16th there were young people everywhere. There was a Youth Event here with a couple other churches. I really had to stay out of their way, but when they ate, I did try to get some crumbs that were left on the floor.

Pastor Jason and his family were on vacation April 18th to 25th. It was a time of relaxation and spending time with family for them. Carol Cyphert preached that weekend. Thanks Carol, we always enjoy you!

The Youth group left Friday, April 29th for the weekend to Wesley Woods for a retreat. I wonder why they never take me along?!

Well, I hope you all got to enjoy the sunny weather, and remember next month, if you still have your mother around, give her a call, or better yet, visit her and give her a big HUG!! Keep Smiling,

Your Church Mouse

Miscellaneous...

Another Successful

Fish Fry Season

Once again our Lenten Fish Fry was a whale of a success!!

After expenses we were able to give

over $6,000 back to the church.

Just to give you an idea of what was involved over the six

Fridays that we served meals,

here’s a list of just some of what was used:

1,170 Fried Fish Fillets

3,040 Chicken Tenders

400 lbs. of Cole Slaw

950 lbs. of French Fries

600 lbs. of Parsley Potatoe

192 lbs. of Shrimp and

72 Cartons of Macaroni & Cheese!!!

(All of which had to be prepared by one

of our awesome, dedicated volunteers,)

Thank you again to everyone who helped and to everyone who

came out to eat!! See you next year!!!

CUMC Confirmation Class of 2016

Our 2016 confirmation class recently visited

the United Methodist Conference Center in

Cranberry where they explored their individ-

ual roles in “Building the Kingdom.”

Along with 46 other church confirmation

classes, they participated in this one day event

that included a sit down with Bishop Bicker-

ton. He said this gives him “the chance to un-

derstand their joys and struggles and to be a

“real person” to them.”

This group was also the first to experience the

new spiritual space on the property, an out-

door labyrinth that is open to anyone to walk.

As part of this whole spiritual exploration,

each of the youth created a puzzle piece repre-

senting themselves, and then they fit them all

together representing the church as a whole

and how every one of us and our gifts are

needed. If you take one piece out, there is a

hole and something is missing.

The take—away (for all of us) is that “the gifts

God gives you are something you can use now!

Don’t wait. And be creative about how you

can share them in the church!”

New Member Event

We’re always ready to welcome new members into

our church family.

Please contact Carrie Rodgers at [email protected] or speak with Pastor Jason if you are interested in joining our church.

Safe Sanctuary Training

May 22nd at 12:00 p.m.

We are rapidly approaching the state’s dead-

line to be in compliance with all Pennsyl-

vania Safe Sanctuary laws—June 15, 2016.

If you have not been trained in Safe Sanctu-

ary practices in the past 6 months and are a

volunteer for the church who has any contact

with children, you must complete the train-

ing and clearances by June 15th.

We will therefore hold one more Safe Sanc-

tuary Training on May 22nd following the

10:30 a.m. worship service. Please plan to

attend if you have not yet gone to a session.

The training is short and we promise—no

test!

The Wright Brothers by David McCullough

This is the story-behind- the-story about the courageous brothers who taught the world how to fly: Orville and Wilbur Wright. Who were these men and how was it that they achieved what they did? David McCullough, the two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize, tells this surprising, profoundly Ameri-can story of the two brothers. Far more than a couple of un-schooled Dayton bicycle mechan-ics, they were men of exceptional courage and determination, and of far-ranging intellectual interests and ceaseless curiosity, much of which they attributed to their up-bringing in a house with no elec-tricity or indoor plumbing, but plenty of books supplied by their preacher father. This is the human side of the Wright Brothers’ story, including the little-known contributions of their sister, Katherine!

Join us on Sunday, May 22nd at Noon in the Library to discuss this unforgettable novel!
