A Renewed Spirit

Psalm 51.9-12

Hide Your face from my sins, And blot out all my iniquities. {10} Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. {11} Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. {12} Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.

We are Born Alive in God

In His image…Genesis 1.26-27

(Gen 1:26-27 NKJV) Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."

We are Born Alive in God

In His image…Genesis 1.26-27Much controversy over what it means to be made in the image of God…Head, hands, feet, etc?

It means we are in His likeness, holy, having His Spirit within us

(Eccl 7:29 NKJV) Truly, this only I have found: That God made man upright, But they have sought out many schemes."

God forms our spirit within us…

(Zec 12:1 NKJV) The burden of the word of the LORD against Israel. Thus says the LORD, who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him:

Our spirit comes from the Father of spirits…

(Heb 12:9 NKJV) Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?

It is spiritual life as long as we keep it holy…

We Are Born Alive in God

Though we are born that way, the “many schemes” man has sought out have brought about spiritual death…

But Something Dies

(Eccl 7:29 NKJV) Truly, this only I have found: That God made man upright, But they have sought out many schemes."

Isaiah 59.1-2 – Sins separate us from God(The very definition of death – James 2.26)

Genesis 3 – Adam and Eve were separated from the presence of God and from tree of life

Something in them died!

Our Sins Kill Us

Something in us dies when we sin:Romans 3.23; 6.23

Death is separationFrom God’s SpiritFrom God

This is the source of the great void in all without God and His Spirit

It cannot be replaced by anything else!

If that Spirit is not renewed in us, the Judge will pronounce eternal death…

He had life within Himself because He is God – John 1.4

“In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.”

The Spirit Renewed in Christ

He IS our life:

(Col 3:4 NKJV) When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

The Spirit Renewed in Christ

He IS THE Resurrection:

(John 11:25-26 NKJV) Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. {26} "And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?"

The Spirit Renewed in Christ

He is the Way back to the Father:

(John 14:6 NKJV) Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

The Spirit Renewed in Christ

Through knowledge and obedience to Him we are restored to godliness:

• (Col 3:10 NKJV) and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,

The Spirit Renewed in Christ

He returns us to God and holiness:

• (Eph 4:24 NKJV) and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

The Spirit Renewed in Christ

In Christ we are born again having received the Spirit of God anew:

Acts 2.38

This is His promise, and He will fulfill it if we obey.

In Christ we are born again having received the Spirit of God anew:

(Titus 3:5 NKJV) not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

1. We were alive once with the Spirit of God2. Our sins have killed us; separated us

from the Holy God3. We decay and corrupt without it4. If not restored we will suffer eternity

separated, dead5. Renew it now in obedience6. Allow God to live in you again and fulfill

you with His promise
