3rd Sunday of Advent: REJOICE Isaiah proclaims truly good news to us! God's coming brings not sadness, guilt, fear, wrath, or condemnation. No, God's coming is a source of comfort and joy. Saying it once is not

enough, for today's readings are full of joy. Mary's Magnificat substitutes for our psalm today, and our second reading encourages us to rejoice, to give thanks and praise.

This is the root meaning of the Greek word for Eucharist. We are urged to rejoice and give thanks, because the coming of the Lord brings joy, healing, liberty, release, vindication. It makes the very earth spring up with new life! Good tidings!

JMJ

December 17, 2017 My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always.

We continue in our procession towards the simple yet profound gift of the Birth of the Messiah – in a stable lying in a manger. The procession has been marked by numerous celebrations last week – of the gift of an exemplary disciple, witness and mother in Mama Mary.

Yesterday, we began an Advent tradition that has been for more than four centuries been celebrated in the Philippines. “Simbang Gabi” or as it was known in olden times – “Misa de Gallo” translates as Mass of the Rooster. It began as a way of engaging the faith of farmers and fishermen who had to leave at the crack of dawn – with the natural alarm clock of the crowing of the roosters – thus the “Gallo-Rooster.”

It has found in the hearts of millions of descendants of these farmers, fishermen and even the other members of the community a strong and resilient devotion that has seen its continuity for centuries even in the midst of conflicts and wars. Since it was a tradition so entrenched in the hearts and minds of Filipinos – it was brought and shared where they practice and engage their faith.

If you still are not aware; Christmas is huge in the Philippines maybe even massive. This is because it is a nation that has kept on struggling and has been tested by history, its politics and economics – it is the one sure source of Hope, of Joy and true Peace. It is the constant beacon and source of light – a real assurance of God’s love and presence amidst the world that tries to darken it. It is not an isolated experience but perhaps it is pervasive

in other people’s lives as well.

Our neighboring parishes are still providing opportunities for us to prepare the way that faith, hope and love may reside in our hearts and spirits. To experience the grace of compassion and mercy is to be transformed and moved to make others experience the same. Let us not waver in our intent to make this Advent and Christmas season different. “Make straight the way of the Lord . . . let there be a highway of openness to the grace of the season in our hearts and lives. God bless and take care. Love and prayers,

Fr.

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

December 24th and December 25th

This year Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday. All Catholics have an obligation to attend Mass twice: once celebrating

the Fourth Sunday of Advent (Saturday evening or during the day Sunday) and a second time celebrating the Feast of the Nativity (Christmas Eve beginning at 4pm or Christmas Day). Mary’s example of responding “yes” to the call of God (4th Sunday of Advent Gospel) helps us respond “yes” to accepting the Prince of Peace, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God into our lives on Christmas. Please see the Christmas schedule for Mass times.

MAY 21, 2017

Time is drawing near for the celebration of Christmas. This mystery is way beyond our ability to understand, yet we BELIEVE it and allow it to bring joy to our being. The excitement is in the air, the music fills our hearts and we prepare, get ready, anticipate. Have you read the two different stories of the Infancy Narratives in sacred scripture? Meditate on them, realizing that the authors have a different audience and a different message for each 2000 yrs. ago. And so we contemplate, what is Matthew and Luke saying for us today in 2017?

The Mission of the Archdiocese for the Military

Services, USA (AMS) is “Serving those who Serve.”

DECEMBER 30th & 31st The ministry of the AMS is to meet the spiritual needs of Catholics

who are serving—or have served—our Country at home and abroad. The AMS is the only archdiocese, or non-profit organization, that provides the Catholic Church’s full range of pastoral ministries and spiritual services specifically to Catholics serving in the United States Armed Forces, enrolled in U.S. Military Academies, undergoing treatment at any of the 153 Department of Veterans Affairs’ Medical Centers, working in civilian jobs for the federal government beyond U.S. borders, and the families of these populations. Military chaplains are the front-line spiritual envoys who provide you and your loved one’s access to the sacraments, spiritual counseling, evangelization and catechesis, and other forms of pastoral care. The AMS receives no funding from the U.S. Government or the U.S. Military in support of its ministry and related programs and services. The AMS relies solely on private donations and the generosity of the Catholic community. This year’s, (2017-2018) RCIA class will be conducting a “free will” donation outside of Church the weekend of December 30th & 31st. Those of us who are veterans and experienced the comfort and support of Catholic Chaplin’s please remember them with your gift. Those families that have children or relatives still serving our country, please support as best you well.

Look for the total accounting of your generosity in a future bulletin! Thank you.

¿SANTA CLAUS?
