Tree Removal by the Patio If the patio area seems a little bare, like something is

missing, it is not your imagination. Our gardeners removed some of the trees this week as part of the

preparation for the patio renovation project. Also, the tree roots were causing damage to the parking lot and

sidewalk, expediting the need for their removal.

JMJ

6 April, 2016 My Dearest Parish Family,

God be with us always.

At the eve of my 51st Birthday, one of the reflections I have for which I am very grateful and feel so blessed with is the experience of the Mercy of God. Like St. Peter I have been given many chances by God to make up for my sins. Unlike him God has to extend it to me numerous times; I would even think thousands of times. However as I shared many times we need to admit, accept and realize how we need to humbly ask for forgiveness and receive from God the graces of His Merciful love. It is this experience of the interplay of contrition and compassion that has marked me with the Love of God. These coming weeks we are going through some changes to improve our facilities, address some safety issues, and in some cases in preparation for our more significant dreams like the New Patio. We are also looking for ways to make our landscaping more drought tolerant and less water use. We found 30 year old Olive trees to replace two trees whose invasive roots have started to damage the concrete slab in our Church Plaza. I pray that it is with an open heart that you listened to the follow-up appeal for the PSA this weekend. This is a reminder of our communal responsibility for the welfare of the Diocese through the various apostolic and pastoral services especially to the poor, the needy and even those incarcerated. The other point I would like to share is that if we increased the total of our pledges and one-time gifts to over

550, then we get a $ 5,000 bonus. This could be a big help so we can accomplish some of our projects sooner. Thank you very much for your support, generosity and kindness that is a source of inspiration and strength for us. God bless and take care. Love and prayers,

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

Padre Thomas Paul K. Naval

Happy Easter Season! This joyful season which celebrates Jesus’ glorious Resurrection actually continues on and lasts for more than just one day. According to our Catholic liturgical calendar, Easter Season lasts for 50 days. Last week we in Religious Education celebrated Easter with festive Resurrection Parties. We did not celebrate before Easter—as we were still anticipating solemn Holy Week. It is good for all of us, young and older, to defer society’s rush to push the important seasons well before their actual date. Case in point--Did you notice Christmas decorations out in shops last fall well before Thanksgiving? I sure did. VBS this summer begins on July 18—mark your calendars and watch for sign up dates. May God bless you and your families, Gloria Fetta

Trip to the Holy Door Saturday, April 23rd at 1pm

Anyone interested in traveling to the Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano to experience the Holy Door? A group of your fellow parishioners are gathering in the back parking lot at 1pm for a blessing by Fr. Thomas, form carpools, drive to Mission San Juan, and regroup in the parking lot at the Mission. Once we have regrouped, we will experience “passing from darkness into light” by walking through the Holy Door. Those in “condition” to gain the Indulgence will, as they prayerfully pass through the door. When all have passed through the door, we will regroup and begin an eleven station prayer journey, developed for the Year of Mercy. Our total time from Santiago to San Juan and back to Santiago will not be more than two hours. Conditions for the Indulgence: • A Catholic in good standing • Be in the state of grace • Have the interior detachment from sin, even venial

sin • Have sacramentally confessed your sins • Received the Holy Eucharist • Pray for the intentions of the Pope • The Indulgence can only be obtained once a day.

However, it can be applied to another person (living or deceased).

• Reconciliation and the Eucharist can be celebrated 20 days prior to the Indulgence.
