Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

On January 22, 1973, the United States Supreme Court cleared a path to legal abortion in the Roe v. Wade case. Since then, the Catholic Church has led the movement to restore the legal right to life of unborn Americans. As Catholics, we believe every human person has a fundamental right to life regardless of development, ability, age, or the burden they may present to others. We affirm the absolute moral norm that it is always and everywhere wrong to directly kill the innocent. Being pro-life means standing against the evils of abortion, racism, euthanasia, war, capital punishment, human trafficking, abuse, neglect, and poverty. On Saturday, January 23rd, our parishes will gather to pray for life at Street Cyril and Methodius. The Rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m. with Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. Youth are invited to help lead the prayers, read, etc. Please contact Daniel LaPolla to volunteer.

The abortion debate can become bitter. Sometimes, the vitriol is directed at the victims of the culture of death such as the mothers and fathers of aborted children. Whenever combating a sin or injustice, we must remember to love the sinners involved. Every human being is a person in need of mercy. Those who have participated in injustices against human life must know that they are welcome in our Church where God is eager to extend forgiveness and peace. May God bless you!

Yours in Christ, Fr. Cicero

JOY ApostolateAn apostolate is a lay ministry group which ultimately serves the community and carries out the mission of Christ and the church. The JOY apostolate is consolidating and enhancing Blessed Sacrament’s ministry to our grieving members AND to those who have new babies and newly baptized members of our parish. We endeavor to show support and care for our members and the community, through the joys and also the challenges in their journey through life. JOY stands for Jesus first, others second, and yourself last. This group provides welcome to families with new babies, newly baptized, and sends cards of support and prayer when families face the challenges of illness and death. This apostolate also reaches out to the homebound with prayers, phone calls, cards, food, and communication through periods of isolation and loneliness. Please join us if you want to participate in ANY aspect of this ministry, as we reach out in support, sharing the JOY of the Gospel. We will meet by ZOOM on January 21 at 7:00 p.m. Please call Cindy Shaker at 330-647-4618 or email Brenda Antenucci at [email protected] even if you can’t attend the meeting. We need YOU!

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT In today’s First Reading, Samuel answers the call of the Lord. At the time he didn’t know it was the lord who called, but thought it was Eli. Imagine not knowing the Lord and still answering the call. As Christians stewards, we know the Lord calls us to share our gifts with Him and with one another, but do we answer His call as readily as Samuel?

PLEASE WELCOME AND PRAY FOR PLEASE WELCOME AND PRAY FOR BISHOP-ELECT DAVID BONNARBISHOP-ELECT DAVID BONNAR

MASS GUIDELINESDURING

THE PANDEMICDISPENSATION FROM THE OBLIGATION TO ATTEND SUNDAY

MASS

The Catholic faithful who reside in the Diocese of Youngstown and all other Catholics in the diocese (especially those who are sick or at high risk of becoming sick) continue to be dispensed from their Sunday obligation until further notice. The Easter Duty obligation is extended for a period of one year from the end of the Easter Season 2020.

Blessed Sacrament requires masks tobe worn by all at all the public weekend Masses.

Those who are symptomatic or who have been exposed to another with the virus within 14 days should not attend Mass in accordance with national, state, and local health directives.

Allow for at least 6 ft. social distancing at all times in all indoor and outdoor church spaces. Please do not leave any papers, masks, gloves, etc. in your pews. Discard in waste containers in the gathering space. Please sanitize hands directly before receiving Communion.

When arriving at the Communion station, please remove your mask before receiving the Precious Body. This eliminates the possibility of dropping or mishandling the Eucharist while fumbling with the mask. Please consume the Host at the Communion station, then reset your mask as you walk away. Reception of Holy Communion on the tongue is available. Please come to the priest at the very end of the Communion procession.

Please allow ushers to seat you and wait for your row at dismissal time.

The Second Sunday in Ordinary Time – January 17, 2021 Samuel learns to hear the voice of the Lord, responding, “Speak Lord, for Your servant is listening.” Are you wondering how to respond to God’s call? Call Father Scott Kopp at 330-744-8451 or email [email protected].
