2013-14: At A Glance Energy, excitement, and a sense of anticipation surround the campus of East Tennessee State University every year in late August as our students return for the fall semester and we welcome our new faculty and staff members to the ETSU family.

In August 2013, as we gathered at the Annual Faculty Convocation, we dreamed about the academic year that was before us. We reflected on the students whose lives would be transformed, and we looked forward to new projects, new initiatives, and new relationships. We also envisioned the opportunities that extend beyond 2013-14 as the Committee for 125 presented its final report. That report recommends many opportunities and strategies for ETSU to consider, and it will serve as a blueprint for much of the work that will take place on this campus as we progress toward our 125th anniversary in 2036.

As you will see in this annual report, A Year of Engagement, we are already making considerable progress in addressing some of the goals outlined by the Committee for 125. This document serves as a brief snapshot of the outstanding accomplishments that have taken place on this campus during the 2013-14 academic year. The story of these benchmarks is told in this annual report through the use of numbers. There are numerous data points in A Year of Engagement, and of all the numbers you will see, there is one that is especially meaningful to me: 3,314 – the number of degrees that we conferred during the 2013-14 academic year.

I thank each of you for being part of our story in 2013-14, and I commend you for what you continue to do each day to help the students of East Tennessee State University realize their dreams. Best wishes for an amazing and productive 2014-15.
