The Academy is a na- tionally-recognized flag- ship program of inten- sive teacher training in art, music, and drama/ theatre sponsored by the Arts Education Program of the Tennessee Depart- ment of Education. The Tennessee Arts Academy is a nationally acclaimed summer pro- fessional development program in arts educa- tion for teachers and ad- ministrators held on the campus of Belmont Uni- versity in Nashville. Par- ticipants, representing school districts through- out the state, are chosen from among hundreds of art, music and drama/ theatre classroom teach- ers. The aim of the Acade- my is to present concepts, skills and materials to en- hance the teaching of art, drama and music in the classrooms of Tennessee. Celebrating over 20 years of excellence, the Tennes- see Arts Academy boasts experiences designed to meet the needs of teach- ers, including standards- based instruction, clinics by nationally-recognized experts, performances by Tennessee artists and unlimited resources and opportunities for net- working with peers from across the state. In addition to more than 30 hours of instruc- tion each week, there are performances made pos- sible by funds from the Tennessee Arts Commis- sion, inspirational speak- ers, and other special events. “This year’s Academy was the first I have been invited to attend. The week was an unforgetta- ble experience. I attended the Music component of the Academy and hope I will have the opportu- nity to attend next year!" stated Ms. Dahlhauser. Ms. Marcantel and Ms. Smith both attended the visual art section of the academy. “We were so thankful to have been selected to attend again this year. Over 500 teach- ers from across the state applied for less than 250 open slots,” Ms Smith said. “This was my sev- enth academy and Beth's fifth; each year just gets better than the last,” Mary added. The Department of Revenue collects approxi- mately 91 percent of total state tax revenue. During the 2009-2010 fiscal year, the department collected $10.1 billion in state taxes and fees. In addition to collecting state taxes, $1.9 billion of combined local sales tax, local mineral severance tax, and local business related taxes and fees was collected by the department for local governments during the 2009-2010 fiscal year. Be- sides collecting taxes, the department enforces the revenue laws fairly and impartially in an effort to encourage voluntary taxpayer compliance. The Academy is a na-tionally-recognized flag-ship program of inten-sive teacher training in art, music, and drama/theatre sponsored by the Arts Education Program of the Tennessee Depart-ment of Education.

The Tennessee Arts Academy is a nationally acclaimed summer pro-fessional development program in arts educa-tion for teachers and ad-ministrators held on the campus of Belmont Uni-versity in Nashville. The Department of Revenue is responsible
