Why Abel?Abel Reels are in a class by themselves. American craftsmanship, quality componentry, unmatched hand-painted finishes – these are just a few of the

things that set Abel apart from its peers.

A fly reel is made up of more components than many people realize, and most manufacturers only create a handful of these pieces in house. Not Abel. At our Camarillo, California facility EVERY SINGLE PIECE of each reel is hand-made, hand-anodized, hand-polished, and hand-assembled - right down to

the handles and the screws that hold them in place. By eliminating outsourcing, we are able to maintain a level of quality control that others cannot begin to claim, all while helping to support the American economy.

Mission StatementTo design and build the best, most dependable gear available and give world class customer service.

AbeLight by SureFire®

A new partnership with SureFire®, makers of the finest illumination tools and tactical products has yielded a unique new offering to our customers: a tactical-grade

flashlight offered in Abel’s custom-anodized finishes.

Belt BucklesEvery angler likes to incorporate the fly fishing lifestyle into their everyday life as much as possible, even if in subtle ways. The new Abel Belt Buckle helps in this endeavor by

allowing our customers to wear a belt and buckle with a fly fishing attitude with everything from suit pants to jeans. Available in all finishes.

Super 6NMany of our customers have requested the “perfect” 6-weight reel from us, and here it is! The 6N is the penultimate 6-weight reel, retaining the Super Series’ large arbor

pedigree, with an incredibly light, narrow-frame design housing a strong yet smooth drag. A powerhouse in an economic package, this is the reel to help you conquer virtually any

freshwater or light saltwater species.

Tribal ReelExclusively designed for Abel by Seattle area tattoo artist and lifelong outdoorsman

Jon Osiris, this hand painted artistic finish captures a tribal art theme available on any reel for 2011.

Super 7/8NOur dealers and customers have been vexed by a constant question: which Super Series reel is the ideal size for 7- and 8-weight lines? By narrowing the spool width, increasing the spool hub arbor and spool diameter from previous models, we’ve now engineered the answer with

our lightest, yet still fastest line retrieving 7- and 8- weight reel we’ve ever produced.

What Makes An Abel An AbelAbel Reels are assembled to tolerances of ten-thousandths of an inch, using the highest quality materials, such as cold-finished 6061-T651 aerospace-grade aluminum, aircraft bearings, and

high-grade cork. Abel has not compromised on these materials for over 23 years.

While much of the work that goes into our reels is internal, the most-recognized feature of an Abel Reel is still an external one: the finish. With a full, in-house anodization and polishing

department, we are able to create finishes that are both artistic and functional, making an Abel product a beautiful tool that any angler can be proud of.

Icon Legend

Weight ReductionA major change to every series of Abel reels in 2011 is a dramatic reduction in weight from all

previous models. Advancements in our machining process have allowed us to shave off a few more ounces of aluminum from both the frame and componentry without sacrificing strength or balance.

The Core of Our ProductsOur reel frames, spools, drag knobs and feet have always been constructed of 6061-T651

cold-finished aerospace-grade aluminum; a material that offers a strength level easily comparable to mild steel. Cold-finished aluminum is milled from a solid block, unlike the industry standard

extruded aluminum that is used in virtually every other reel manufactured today. Although the cost of cold-finished aluminum is 2 ½ times as much as its counterpart, the superior properties easily

justify its use in our reels, guaranteeing the exceptional quality Abel is known for.

Super Series Quick Change (QC) ReelsVersatility has always been a hallmark of design at Abel, and with the introduction of the Super Series Quick Change in 2009, an entirely new level of it was achieved. The Quick Change series of reels gives anglers the ability to swap out spools at a momentsnotice, faster than ever before. Just a spin of the drag knob, a turn and a push of the center cap, and the spool is released. Add a new spool, reverse the process, and it is finished.

Manufactured to the same exacting standards as their Super Series brethren, complete with a large arbor retrieve ratethe Quick Change series is the next evolution in the American quality of Abel Reels.

Reel frame, spool, drag knob and foot are 6061-T651 cold finished aerospace grade aluminum. •Buna sealed micro-bearings are ISO 9001:2000 AND AS9100 Certified FAA TSO C149 Aircraft Bearings. •

Cork Drag System is made entirely in our factory. We use a superior high grade cork with a little neat’s-foot oil on it. •Quick Change Spool. •

Super SeriesThe backbone of the Abel Reel Lineup since 1999, the Super Series has become a favorite of both the big-game saltwater fisherman as well as the freshwater trout stalker. With a super-smooth yet powerful cork drag, lightweight componentry and a perfectly-sized large arbor (hub) for quick line retrieval, these reels are perfectly at home either on Bahamian flats or river in Montana. This is due to the highly adjustable drag that can both protect an 8X tippet and also put monstrous pressure on a 150lb Tarpon. Whatever your fishing application, there is a Super Series reel built for the task!

Abel ArmA high percentage of our reels are now ordered with an Abel Arm. By hanging the reel below and slightly forward of the casting hand and moving the center of gravity away from the reel seat, the improved balance offers greater comfort and significantly less fatigue. If you suffer from tennis elbow (tendonitis) or arthritis, you will feel the difference when you use the arm. Abel Arms may be fitted to any model and size Abel Reel.

AnodizationPerhaps our most recognized feature, Abel has been a leader in custom aluminum anodization for the better part of two decades. Our proprietary process is not only unique, but unmatched in the industry. Each of our artistic and fish graphic reels is HAND PAINTED by our skilled artists in-house, with each color and scale painstakingly added. They are then finished with a Type IIanodization for both strength and longevity.

All colors and graphics can be finished both in high-gloss or matte to achieve the desired look.

Solid, Artistic Graphic and Fish Graphic FinishesBeing fly fishermen, we know which rods our customers are fishing, and have created a selection of solid finishes to perfectly match and/or accent today’s most popular blank colors. If you are curious which solid color or fish graphic would look best on yours, do not hesitate to ask your local fly shop or call us directly – chances are we have already sold an Abel to match your model!

AbeLightAbel is always committed to providing its customers with the best available and highest-quality tools. It is in that spirit that we have partnered with SureFire® to create a line of flashlights that both meets the demanding requirements of SWAT teams, and still has the beauty and aesthetics of a custom finished Abel Reel.

The SureFire LX2 model has a high-powered LED (Light Emitting Diode) with two output levels, one for extended run time, and another for maximum light output – ten times brighter than a 2-D Cell flashlight. This feature can be quickly activated by pushing the two-stage pushbutton tail cap: press and hold for a momentary 15 Lumen beam, press harder to bring the output up to 200 lumens. For continuous light, merely twist the tail cap in a bit for the lower setting, farther for a powerful beam.

Light is contained in a high-strength aerospace aluminum body. •Smoothed edges to prevent hooking and snagging on clothing. •

The virtually indestructible LED emitter is regulated to maximize output and runtime. •Weatherproof O-ring and gasket sealing. •

Two output levels—high for maximum light, low for extended runtime. •TIR lens produces a tight beam and still enough surround light for peripheral vision. •

Coated tempered window resists impact, maximizes light. •Two-stage tactical tail cap switch—press for momentary-on low, press further for high, twist for constant-on at either level. •

Two-way clip permits light to be carried with lens up or down. •Available in Tarpon, Matte Brown, Matte Green, Brown Trout, Brook Trout and Rainbow Trout. •

Derek DeYoung 20112011 marks our third year of collaborating with Montana-based fish and wildlife artist Derek DeYoung to create popular representations of his abstract paintings on our reels. Derek painted the fifth design in our collectible series at the Sandy River Spey Clave for all the steelhead junkies, titled Abstract Steelhead – Oregon. We’ll continue to offer Derek’s brook trout canvas art titled Purple Cheeks, and a cutthroat trout appropriately named Yellowstone.
