*For new students to La Salle, this course also provides extensive use of the iPad for using Schoology, Notability, Google Docs and Google Slides, which are all technology tools that students use all four years at La Salle. This will provide an excellent foundation for new students who have limited experience with these tools. Speech and Debate is an excellent introduction for those students who are interested in competing on the Speech and Debate Team during the regular school year; however, participation on the team is optional and not required.

NOTE: For credit courses, it is important to remember that each four-week summer school course is equivalent to an 18-week semester course, thus workload needs to be commensurate with the credit being earned in this course. Attendance at summer school is paramount to student success.

To get credit, all the lessons must be finished, checked, and corrected. Answer keys will be provided. In addition, all three unit tests must be taken and passed at 80% proficiency. The tests must be taken at La Salle. Tentative test dates are July 2, July 23, and August 20.

Writing the College Application EssayInstructor: Monty MickelsonOpen to incoming 12th graders August 12-15 (Monday-Thursday)Cost: $100 9:00 am-11:30 am The prospect of having to compose and submit a personal essay is, for many students, the most daunting aspect of the college application process. Introducing yourself—your very best self—in a mere 650 words (or less) may seem like the literary equivalent of building a ship in a bottle.

Writing the College Application Essay helps demystify this process and alleviates much of the anxiety young writers often bring to this task. Using a workshop format, the class will review successful essays on a broad range of topics and styles. Students will brainstorm ideas, and then commence drafting a personal essay that conforms to one of the Common Ap prompts. During a revision phase, students will edit for tone and content while preserving their own authentic voice
