A Fall Full of Fun...The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department

makes sure that this season is full of activities where citizens will learn, create, and play.

Experience Touch a Truck Day at Southeast Clarke Park on Saturday, October 11 from 9:00 a.m. - noon. Kids, of all ages, will have the opportunity to explore trucks of all types, including construction vehicles, dump tricks, fire trucks, police cars, and more. This event is free and open to the public. Each vehicle will have trained staff present to answer questions Call 706-613-3871 for details.

Need a little art in your life? Make sure to stop by the annual Lickskillet Artists Market and Festival at Lyndon House Arts Center on Saturday, October 24 from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Dozens of artists will have their art work available for purchase - drawings, glass, paintings, and more. Ad-ditionally, there will be art activities, music, and tours of the historic Ware-Lyndon House. Food vendors will be onsite, as well. Call 706-613-3623 for more information.

Get out and enjoy the fall weather and participate in the annual Jack-O-Lantern Jog and Goblin Fun Run benefit-ting Sandy Creek Nature Center, Inc. Prizes are awarded for top finishers in each age division for the race. This annual event is scheduled for Sunday, November 1 at Sandy Creek Nature Center. Costume contest for runners, ages 10 and younger, at 1:40 p.m.; one-mile fun run begins at 2:00 p.m.; race begins at 2:30 p.m. Call 706-613-3615 for details or visit www.athensclarkecounty.com/sandycreeknaturecenter.

Don’t be afraid - it is just Halloween. A variety of activi-ties are planned throughout the Department. Carnivals, parties, and other programs will keep this special time of year more fun than scary.

ART EXHIBITIONS

Lyndon House Arts Center presents rotating art exhibitions featuring a broad range of works by practicing local and area artists in a variety of media, styles and concepts. From traditional to experimental, works by professional, emerging, young or elder artists can be seen in Lyndon House Arts Center gal-leries. Exhibitions may be guest curated or theme presentations, juried or invita-tional. When visiting the galleries, please accompany and supervise all children for the safety of the artwork and for artwork content. Lyndon House Arts Center will review proposals for future exhibitions twice annually. Approaching proposal due dates are Sunday, September 20 and Wednesday, April 20, 2016. Ware-Lyndon House Period Decorative Arts c.1840-1890 and Athens History Museum DisplayThe Ware-Lyndon House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, represents a blend of the Greek Revival and Italianate styles. Resplendent interior furnishings throughout the house and historic bedroom on the second floor showcase period decorative arts of the mid and late 1800’s. Museum quality memorabilia in the Historic Display Room highlight significant aspects of Athens history. NEW* Faux marble painting embellishment in the Entry Hall and stairway by master decorative painter, Derick Tickle. LHAC Gallery ShopThe Visual Arts Guild of Athens, in partnership with the Lyndon House Arts Center, manages the Gallery Shop through volunteer support.Original artwork by Athens area artists, including jewelry, paintings, photogra-phy, handmade books, turned wood, pottery, fused and blown glass, designed textiles, hand knitted accessories and more. The north gallery shop has been remodeled to house the library resource room as well as locally handcrafted art. CriteriaFor the highly motivated student who is inspired to excel in dance! Students are accepted into the accelerated programs by audition or recommendation of the East Athens Educational Dance Center teaching staff. These programs offer intensive techni-cal training to develop and strengthen posture, placement, flexibility, balance, coordination, and rhythm. The student is expected to improve movement quality, and gain a greater understanding of dance theory and composition. Registration Fees:Fees are due at the time of registration. Checks should be made payable to “Athens-Clarke County.”

All payments made using a credit card will be charged a $3 “convenience fee” to be added to the cost of services. There is not an additional fee charged for payments made with a debit card.

Refund Policy:• If a class or program is canceled due to insufficient

enrollment or other reason, ACC Leisure Services will issue a full refund to all registered individuals.

• No refunds will be granted after the start of the program or class. Collected fees of less than $5 will not be refunded (unless the department cancels the program or class).

• Refund requests must be received no less than seven (7) business days prior to the first day of class or program.

• Refunds will be assessed a 25% administrative fee.

• After the seven (7) day deadline, refunds will not be granted without a written medical excuse from a licensed physician.

ScholarshipsAny Athens-Clarke County resident under the age of 18 is eligible for consideration for a scholarship. A list of required documents to determine scholarship eligibility is available by calling 706-613-3800 or at www.athensclarkecounty.com/scholarships Scholarships do not cover admission, entrance, field trips, rental fees, or adult programs.

Parents must apply for a scholarship prior to the day of program registration. All scholarships expire June 30 and must be renewed.

Smoking PolicySec. 4-3-2. Smoking Prohibited in Athens-Clarke County Facilities. Smoking shall be prohibited in all enclosed facilities of, including buildings owned, leased, operated by the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County. Smoking shall be prohibited within the boundaries of any park, youth sports complex, or recreation area owned, leased, or operated by the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County, including any open area within such park, youth sports complex, or recreation area.
