• Open to all students at Duquesne with an interest in studying history, culture, natural resources and physiography in Copenhagen, Denmark and Reykjavik, Iceland.

• Must be clear of any outstanding academic or disciplinary actions

Cost: • Estimated: $4600-$5400, which includes all

airfare, transportation within Denmark and Iceland, entrance to all scheduled activities, lodging, 2 meals per day, and 3 Global Diversity credits.

• NOTE: This amount is subject to change based on currency exchange fluctuations, airline fees, and/or individualized air itineraries.

• All tuition monies applied to cost of being in Denmark and Iceland – a great value!

Spend time this May learning in Denmark and Iceland … The Duquesne University History Department is offering a May study abroad, Global Diversity core theme area class in Denmark and Iceland. Here we will observe the cultural connection between these two countries. These places share the common themes of a Viking history and a colonial connection.

Program Highlights

• See the divergence of the North American and Eurasian Tectonic Plates

• Hike around the Gullfoss waterfall, a crater lake, a geothermal area, and a geyser

• Trek along volcanic ice capped landscapes

• Swim in the Blue Lagoon and other geothermal springs

• Spend a day at Tivoli, the world’s oldest amusement park

• Learn the design and importance of Slotsholmen Island, Copenhagen

Course Offerings: During these 10 days students will take one course and earn 3 credits.

HIST 200 Global Geography with a Danish and Icelandic Twist (satisfies CORE Theme Area: Global Diversity) The goal of this course is to provide students with a geographic point of view of global diversity through examination of the history, culture, natural resources and physical geography in Denmark and Iceland. Readings include Neil Gaiman’s Norse Mythology.
