JCI CONCEPT AND HISTORY

I. How It Began

The origin of Junior Chamber can be traced as far backas 1910, in the city of St Louis, Missouri, United Statesof America. A young man by the name of HenryGiessenbier, a bank cashier, felt that young peopleacting in a voluntary capacity could fashion a newstandard of life for their communities.

On October 13, 1915, he called for a meeting with 32young men present, and an organization was formedunder the name of "Young Men's Progressive CivicAssociation". It was mainly for the communitybetterment.
