Parada Association is today, the only attending

directly to support “street children” of Bucharest. It

succeeded to develop, after its birth in 1996 to create

emergency services, social assistance, education and

social professional integration. These actions created

at the end a social circus that allows children still

today to get out from their everyday difficulties and

without future. Art and laugh carried through that

educational and accompaniment medium gives

during the passing of years a second chance to more

and more young people that after can assimilate

themselves in the labour market and obtaining a

stability.

Social Circus

In Parada the social circus is used as the main instrument of education and accompaniment. The artistic programme is the base for the development of the other activities of the Association, whose fundamental goals are: • TO CATCH the children and the young people inviting them to form themselves in circus arts and to assist to

some exhibitions. Parada was born from the determination of a clown, Miloud OUKILI, to approach street children through art and smile. He gave to the children, not only a ludic tool, but above all the possibility to conceive a purpose in their lives, something that could improve their self-confidence, trying to wake up an hidden talent in circus field too.

• TO PROVIDE a regulatory framework to children and young people, putting the accent on respect and discipline . The social circus uses the art of circus to encourage personal and social development of young people in precarious situations. To leave place to freedom and creativity, just asking doggedness, constancy and discipline in back. The social circus is for street children, a tool to bloom and to express themselves, in a way that they can discover thanks to this universe a link with the society that has often bar them.

• TO ALLOW to young people and children to conceive and realise a circus exhibition and to let them produce themselves with time nationally and internationally. The presentation of the exhibition shows to the world the progresses made from whom that wants to reconnect withsociety. After several years, the young people of Parada’s circus group have the chance to play in Romania (hospitals, corporate galas, schools...) but then in abroad tourneés in France and Italy.

Street children of Bucharest

Parada Association uses the social circus to join social purposes to children and young people of Bucharest. The phenomenon of street children in Romania is an heritage of the policy scheme made by N. Ceaucescu which continues to strike hardly the city of Bucharest. Currently in the capital, we count a number that stays between 1200 and 2000 street children in a fix:

• Absence of fixed places and insecurity. The children and the young people sleep in the street, in channels, in squats, in abandoned buildings… • Break-up with family links The motivations are several: death, economy difficulties, violences, addiction problems…) and they create in children’s houses a molteplicity of social, affective and emotional problems. • Schooling and access to education problems Without the acces to school for children and to the education to young people , the possibilities to find a job become very complicated, keep worsing the precariousness of the situation. • Use of drugs The hard life conditions push often people to use and abuse of drugs, speaking of glue to inhale, or injection of heavy drugs. • Hard acces to cares and sanitary services. Despite all the problems written above, sanitary problems of these children and young people aren’t considered. In addiction, some of them, having abbandoned their family, had lost or left their ID cards, consequentally it’s impossible for them to be assisted or treated.

Support to street babies

From the idea of a volunteer, Géraldine Prigent, Parada has established in 2011 a support program to street babies. It is possible to become supporters of a baby giving 1200 Lei (around 270€) for a year to the Association. Today the program it was taken by Nathalie Faillenet-Loison. In 2014, 26 babies have been helped from people of the french comunity of Bucharest (23 babies) and by supporters in France (3 babies). The procedure is effective untill 3 years old of the child because donations are used to buy cradles, towels and all hygiene product for street children. These babies also benefit from milk provided by Nestlé company. Generally, the payment take place in two parts every six months. The donators of french comunity give cash to Nathalie who is charged to give back the money to Parada. French supporters deposit money with a bank transfer to ¾ Monde Association that then devolves it to Parada.

Artistic Program

The artistic program wants to offer to each child and young person the opportunity to discover performing arts thought circus, dance, human theatre of shadows or puppets. That’s a funny, pedagogical and social integration tool, used by the Dayly Center to create exhibitions and artistic tournées. The activities of the program concentrate themselves on the development of creativity and self-confidence. During the tournées, young people present their show into festivals, galas social centers and hospitals. Acquiring skills in performing arts, some of them animate circus workshops in french and italian schools in Bucharest, partecipating to cultural events and liven animation centers. The shows are a true opportunity to meet people from different cultures and horizons, a way to discover or rediscover a life in family, because the accomodation is as much as possible sought in foster families. Parada, with the collaboration of Magro theater and with the financial help of Alta Mane Association, presents from 2012 a new show, Parada-is, directed by Flavio Cortellazi. It is an experimental exhibition which mixes drama art and circus. That would be a message to young people who are living in streets.
