Teacher and Principal Evaluation
Race to the TopAssurance Area D
“Let me be clear: if a teacher is given a
chance, or two chances, or three chances, and still does not improve, there is no excuse for that person to continue teaching. I reject a system that rewards failure and protects a person from its consequences. The stakes are too high. We can afford nothing but the best when it comes to our children’s teachers and to the schools where they teach.”
—President Barack Obama

Next Steps
Student Growth Measures
◦ Must make up 50 % of the Evaluation
◦ ODE Approved List of Assessments
◦ Must include Multiple Measures
◦ Must cover all subject areas
Special Subjects
No Standard Assessments
◦ DPS Faculty and Administration has collaborated to create authentic and realistic Student Growth Measures for Art, Music, Physical Education, and Foreign Language
◦ May be refined, but excellent feedback thus far.
Principal Evaluation
Educational Excellence
◦ Logical Mirror
The Principal Evaluation System should mirror the Teacher Evaluation System in order to ensure educational excellence in every school building.
Challenges Ahead
Mid Biennial Review
◦ SB 316 (Lehner) contains language which would remove Teacher Evaluation as a subject of Contract Bargaining.
◦ Legislative Watch
The Commitment
DPS and DEA, through the district, have committed to work faithfully and in good faith in order to create a best-fit Evaluation System for all Professional Educators.
The focus is on the work at hand, with an eye to Columbus and a keen awareness for changes to the course of our collaborative work.
Upcoming Events

Race to the Top Reflection
One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant
teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our
human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary
raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the
growing plant and for the soul of the child.
~Carl Jung
