What We Believe

...the living core of the Christian faith is revealed in scripture, illumined by tradition, vivified in personal experience, and confirmed by reason.

...the one God we worship exists fundamentally within a community of the three persons of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

…God’s son, Jesus, came to live among us as fully divine and fully human. His life, death, and resurrection points to and fulfills the good news of the freedom from sin and death, which we proclaim.

...we share one mission with Christians throughout time, to make disciples of Jesus Christ.

...it is into community (koinonia) that we have been called to coexist and through this com-munity that we are able to truly manifest the body of Christ.

…wherever you are on your journey, we are here for one another!

“In Essentials Unity, In Non-Essentials Liberty, In All Things Charity.”

Notes from the Nurse: Juvenile Arthritis Month

Juvenile arthritis (JA) is also known as Pediatric Rheumatic disease. JA is ac-tually not a disease. It is a term used to describe the many auto-immune and inflammatory conditions that can develop in children under the age of 16. There are several types of this arthritis such as Juvenile Idiopathathic Arthri-tis (JIA) (considered the most common type), Juvenile Lupus, Kawasaki Dis-ease and many more. JA affects nearly 300,000 children a year. Many of the arthritis types have common symptoms such as pain, joint swelling with redness and warmth. It can also involve the eyes, skin, muscles and gastrointestinal tract. There is no known cause that has been found for most forms of JA. Some research has pointed to a genetic disposition. It is critical to get an accurate diagnosis to treat the particular form of Juvenile Arthritis. There is no cure at the present time but with early diagnosis and aggressive treatment remis-sion is possible. The goal is to relieve pain, inflammation and provide quality of life to the child. A combination treatment plan of medication, physical activity, eye care and healthy diet are used. It is also important to address the emotional and social issues in the treatment plan. Much more info can be obtained from the National Arthritis Foundation, www.arthritis.org and the Mayo Clinic www.mayoclinic.org Wishing good health to you! Linda
