Auld bids farewellTo the Class of 2016,

Graduating from high school, for most, is the first major milestone one ex-periences: it truly is a historic moment in the story of your life. In fact, some choose to regard high school graduation as the closing of the first chapter in one’s life and the beginning of another. However, my take on the symbolism of writing one’s life story and the significance of high school graduation is a bit different than most.

Although there certainly has been a cast of “characters” in your life story thus far, you will encounter and befriend a multitude of other “characters” as your story unfolds. However, I am also speaking of the main character in your story…you. You, over the course of the past 17 or 18 years, have developed, to a great degree, your core belief system. These core beliefs won’t likely deviate much. The formative development of the “main character” in your story has, to a significant extent, taken place and, therefore, will contribute substantially to the way your story unfolds.

I also feel strongly that “setting” will remain a constant throughout your story. While you have left your mark on Burroughs High School and this small desert community, don’t think for a second that Burroughs High School and this small desert town has not left its mark on you. Regardless of whether you never leave, leave and come back, or leave and never come back, the significance of the “setting” during your formative and developmental years will remain a constant contributor to your life story.

In conclusion, I congratulate you on completing the first several chapters in your life story. In those chapters you have experienced joy, conflict, anxiety, excitement and many other emotions. Each of those experiences contributed to the development of you… your core beliefs, your discipline, your work ethic, your disposition, and your integrity…which will be the foundation from which your story unfolds. You have developed those traits necessary to be successful and you are prepared to begin the next section of your story.

I wish you the best as you write the next chapters of the book of your life. Go places and see things. Make a difference. Make your story one worth tell-ing. Don’t worry so much about the cover; it’s the beauty and the substance of what lives between the covers that truly matters. Most of all, may your story always honor your heritage; your family, your beliefs and what once was your “setting,” Burroughs High School.

Bryan auld (BHS ‘92)Principal

ASB, Sr. Presidents offer parting words

To the Class of 2016,

Wow, I can’t believe we are seniors! It feels like just yesterday we were walking onto the Burroughs High School campus, a little nervous but excited for what was ahead! We have all grown so much and in so many different ways.

Through these special experiences, many of us have learned and grown up. As young adults, I feel we are truly prepared to be successful and contribute to the rest of the world. These special memories of football games, rallies, dances, float building, powderpuff, grad night and our pool party will be memories that we will all cherish and never forget.

I am thankful for all of you, because without you I wouldn’t have had the most memorable four years of my life. Thank goodness for phones, texting, Facebook and Instagram because without them, I wouldn’t be able to see all of your achievements you will be making after graduation.

It has been a privilege to be class president my freshman to junior year and an honor to be your student body president our senior year.

No matter what happens ten years down the road, just remember that you all are so special and unique in your own way and don’t let anyone tell you differently.

Bailey Hannafin (BHS ‘16)ASB Class President

To the Class of 2016!

I’d just like to tell you, THANK YOU. Thank you not only for the best senior year possible but for the best four years of my life. Thank you for letting me represent you guys; it means so much and I am forever grateful for it. But most impor-tantly, thank you all for sharing and creating the friendships and lifelong memories we now have.

As we are all about to part ways and create even more friendships and memories, let us not forget the ones we’ve made. Let’s not forget our first day of freshman orientation, when we were all so timid to start this incredible four-year journey. Let us not forget our crammed homecomings, killing it at pow-derpuff, wearing outrageous outfits for dodgeball, looking fly for prom, losing our voices at rallies, and finally the best to come, graduation. Through all these events we’ve grown so much together and I sincerely hope we never take these mo-ments for granted.

Although these are great memories, don’t let them be your best. Continue to go out and create new ones. Continue to better yourself, to go out of your comfort zone and grow as individuals. With all the new experiences and obstacles that we may encounter, I would just like to simply wish you all good luck. I have no doubt that we will all come out successful in all of our endeavors.

Once again thank you for this amazing experience. I couldn’t have wished for a better class to graduate.

Brandon Brown (BHS ‘16)Senior Class President

Ivan ChirinosMany of you guys I’ve known for

the majority of my life. We’ve all grown up together and witnessed many things. I’m happy to have known you all and as we go on our separate ways, I hope you lead lives you’re proud off.

Will ChristmanCHB: I’m glad we were able to cap-

ture the essence of the Ridgecrest and Kern County story. I believe our music and poetic rhythm will last many years as a cultural institution representing this area. 760 Records were never fully able to amount to the superiority of our music, Corey was the only one with a small chance of making it in the Ridgecrest rap game. After the release of “Butterflies in Outer Space” 760 un-derstood that the game was controlled by CHB and their three main members WillE c, Data Flow, and Juicy Van Jay. Fellas, the large amount of money we made from this group will last a many years( cuz how much guap we made$) but the memories and inspiration we created will last a lifetime.

My friends: peace, love, and pros-perity to you all

Hayley ClevelandTo Rebecca, Sydney, and Sierra:

You are my wings, you taught me to fly. You taught me to love myself. From Rebecca’s humor to Sydney’s kindness and Sierra’s support, you stood for me through my destruction. I can’t imagine my life without you. Forever and always, I love you all. “The greatest gift of life is friend-ship, and I have received it.” -Hubert Humphrey

To Sierra, the Elphaba to my Glinda: through the ups and downs, through anything and everything, you’ve been there. From my highest highs to my lowest lows, there was you. I wouldn’t be where I am today without you. “Who can say if I’ve been changed for the better, but because I knew you, I have been changed for good.” -Wicked

To Nadya Prince: I’ve known you since we were tiny little tots in ballet. We’ve both grown so much, but you have kept one of the most beautiful souls I have ever seen in my life. True is the friend that you can argue politics with and still love at the end of the day. “Nothing but heaven itself is better than a friend who is really a friend.” -Plautus

To my Romeo, Jose Sandoval: Your sweet disposition and wonderful atti-tude has been a joy to me. I love you and will miss you, King of the Forest.

To Sam, Roc, and Ratch: I love you three more than words could begin to express, without you three my life would be a mess: and yes even more so than now. We have all become so close, we even share the same boyfriends. around at the college next year but you deserve a farewell anyway. My apologies to those I don’t mention, but here goes.

Let’s start with everyone from “U my bois”. You know who you are: Some of us were friends before, but I’d say what brought us together was doing Mr. BHS. It didn’t matter to us who won or who did the best, it was spending time together and laughing with and at each other that made it the best memory of my senior year. From Rick’s back-flips, to Garrett’s cooking, we put on quite the show gentlemen. I wouldn’t change anything about it.

Sydney: I never would have thought I would have a friend like you. You are beyond amazing and our personali-ties are more evenly matched than I thought. We’ve had our moments, but our friendship persevered and we came out stronger for it. I’ll always value our time together and look forward to times ahead. I love you Syd, “Good-night Denise.”

Levi: Bro, I’m so glad you are gonna stick around at Coso for a bit because I need my best friend for a little while longer. We’ve shared things with each other that I only would have ever told my dogs because they can’t talk. We’ll both still need that as we experience this abrupt transition into adulthood. You are my best friend and I need you buddy. I love you guys.

Trenton LambertTo all my closest friends, Brad,

Trev, Bk, B Brown, Will, Malia, Hunter, Ana, Aiden, Jorge, Fidel, Alex, Wyatt, Abbie, Ian, Jake, Tre, Zach & Corey: thanks for making high school worthwhile. Without you guys I probably would have shown up to like 2 classes all year. Good luck with life fam!

Rachel LebsockTo Everyone: We did it! Can’t be-

Cody LennonGet it how you live. The world is

messed up and ruthless but live happy live the way you feel good when you wake up cause you really only got yourself till someone else decides they are there for you as well.

Trevor Lucero-ArtsMy fellow seniors, graduation is

almost here and it’s hard to believe that it went by so fast. I want to say to all of my fellow seniors that I hope you well in your dreams and achievements. And to all of my friends, Ivan Chiri-nos, Zachary Newton, Emilee Allen, Leah Weems, and Nate Brent, I want to tell you that I have memories that I will never forget and I hope that we can still talk after school ends. And to anyone other friends that I had made, I wish you well and hope that we can still talk as well.

Even if we don’t have time to talk,

I hope that can achieve your dreams and life goals. Good luck and safe travels beyond this town. Now that my farewell is finished, I can tell you a quote that was said by Confucius, a Chinese teacher and philosopher, and its meaning is that you don’t need to be perfect to achieve things, just able to pick yourself up after a blow if things go wrong. Nobody is perfect at all.

“Our greatest glory is not in never fall.”

Andrew ValenciaTo Everyone that is My “Bois” just

know that I love you guys and I’m happy we got close at the end of the year and I only hope the best for all of you in the future hope to stay in touch and see what great places life takes you guys, Stevannee : hey darling I’m happy senior year was the year we met because any year before this I don’t think I was worthy enough to have such an amazing person in my life, you

You have helped shape me into the person I am today and It was a blessing watch-ing you grow up as well, so here’s to a few more decades Em can’t wait to see what wild adventure we’ll have next.

Victoria, you are the life of the party, you always know how to make me laugh and you are always down for whatever I’m so happy that I’ve gotten to experience so many crazy things with you I can’t wait to see what movie you’ll be working on first. Thank you guys so much for taking on high school with me but guess what WE DID IT!! Now let’s take on adulthood. I love you guys.

Christopher WalklingWe did it!In the famous words of Mr. Presi-

dent from Independence Day:

“Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in this history of mankind.

Mankind -- that word should have new meaning for all of us today.

We can’t be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it’s fate that today is the 4th of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom, not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution -- but from annihilation. We’re fighting for our right to live, to exist. And should we win the day, the 4th of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day when the world declared in one voice: “We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on! We’re going to survive!” Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!”

Leah WeemsOh, gosh, we’re finally graduating,

and I’m so excited! And as excited as I am to move on with my life, it’ll be so different not seeing a lot of you on a daily basis anymore. forever, goodbyes are not the end, and they simply mean we will miss one another, until we meet again! Our memories of the past will last a lifetime, but, nobody gets to live life backwards, look ahead, that is where

your future lies. With that thought, say goodbye to the ghosts of past with all the colors and brightness, which is waiting for you outside, wishing everyone the best and hope to see all of you in the future!

Looking up at senior stage every time I walked by saying to myself, “I can’t wait to be a senior. It just can’t come fast enough.” But it came all too fast. I loved that show with everything I had and I still sing the songs. Seuss will al-ways be a part of me. From Ridgecrest all the way to Solla Sollew. It got me involved with the Drama program and I haven’t been the same ever since.
