Advanced Diploma in Management StudiesAdvanced Diploma in Management Studies [formerly named Diploma in Management Studies (DMS)] is a progression diploma offered by the School of Continuing and Professional Education of City University of Hong Kong (CityU SCOPE). The programme is recognised under the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework Level 4. Graduates are able to pursue further studies in top-up degree programmes offered by CityU SCOPE or other universities.

Programme AimADMS aims to nurture and develop the talents of students and to create applicable knowledge in order to support social and economic advancement. The programme also provides management concepts and business skills to young working adults for their immediate workplace application and their future learning at the university degree level.

Credit Transfer

Credit transfer may be granted to students who possess equivalent qualifications at appropriate level. The maximun number of credits that can be transferred is 18 credits. In a normal case, no credit transfer could be granted to the first three modules for route 1 entry.

Programme StructureThe programme will be run on a credit-based system. The number of contact hours of each credit unit is 13. Students are required to complete a total of 16 modules (route 1 entry) or 13 modules (route 2 entry).

#The offering of stream(s) is subject to sufficient number of enrollments.

Programme Features DMS has been offered since 2004 with more than 1,000

graduates, and has established a strong reputation in the market for quality. It was renamed to ADMS in August 2013.

This programme provides students with a solid foundation for further studies at the university degree level.

General business and management education are specifically designed with specialist pathway options available (Marketing, HRM and Accounting).

There is a high rate of progression to top-up degree programmes.

Route 1 entry: 48 credits (16 modules)1. Five subjects in HKCEE, including Chinese Language and English Language (“Syllabus B” before 2007) at level 2 /

Grade E or above, and passes 3 other subjects;2. Yi Jin graduates; or3. Mature applicants of at least 21 years of age by the programme start date, and 4. At least 3 years of full-time work experience.

Route 2 entry: 39 credits (13 modules)1. HKDSE with level 2 or above in at least five subjects, including English and Chinese (and up to 2 ApL subjects▲) or

equivalent; or2. HKALE or GCEAL with grade E or above in at least two A-level subjects; or 3. Students who have successfully completed Part 1 of SCOPE DMS programme or equivalent qualifications obtained

from other local institutions; or 4. Five subjects in HKCEE, including Chinese Language and English Language (“Syllabus B” before 2007) at level 2

/ Grade E or above, and passes 3 other subjects plus a minimum of 1 year full-time formal post-secondary study or equivalent qualifications; or

5. Yi Jin graduates, who have successfully completed a minimum of 1 year formal post-secondary study or equivalent qualifications; and

6. At least 1 year of full-time work experience.

Shortlisted applicants may be invited for an interview.▲ Students awarded with “Attained with Distinction” or “Attained” in a subject of Applied Learning (ApL) will be considered as Level 2 of attainment in an

elective subject of HKDSE. Each student is allowed to use up to two ApL subjects in the application.

The above are exempted programmes under Non-local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance. It is a matter of discretion for individual employers to recognize any qualification to which these programmes may lead.

Medium of InstructionEnglish, supplemented with Cantonese.

Assessment and AwardAssessment consists of a combination of coursework and examination.

Students who have passed all the required courses with an overall attendance of 70% or above will be awarded an Advanced Diploma in Management Studies by CityU SCOPE.

Progression OpportunityUpon successful completion of the ADMS programme, students are eligible to apply for one of the mentioned top-up degree programmes offered in Hong Kong by CityU SCOPE in collaboration with overseas universities.

ClassesThere are approximately 6 - 9 hours of class per week (normally 2 weekday evenings and 1 weekend afternoon or/and evening). Classes will be held at SCOPE@CityU (Kowloon Tong) or CityU TSTE Learning Centre (Tsim Sha Tsui East) or CityU SCOPE Admiralty Learning Centre (Admiralty) or other designated CityU SCOPE Learning Centres.

Mode of Study and DurationPart-time, 2 years

Education LoanSuccessful applicants are eligible to apply for the Non-means Tested Loan Scheme (NLS) administered by the Student Financial Assistance Agency (SFAA) of the HKSAR government. The maximum financial assistance under the NLS is equivalent to the total tuition fees payable for the programme. Continuing Education Fund (CEF)Some courses of the programme have been included in the list of reimbursable courses under the Government’s Continuing Education Fund (CEF). Eligible applicants can obtain a reimbursement up to 80% of tuition fees, subject to a maximum of HK$10,000.
