Why Plinkit does what it does Security, Security, Security…

It is Plinkit/Plone’s job to give you a professional safe website.

You can do anything you want with it, if you know how, and you know Plinkit’s current setup.

Why Plinkit does what it does

Safe_html: Nasty Tags and Safe Tags

Kupu will also edit content based on it’s rules.

Page 6: Advanced Plinkit Training External Content

Safe_HTML

Page 7: Advanced Plinkit Training External Content

Overriding these actions

Safe_html: Must be disabled in the ZMI

Kupu can be ‘tweaked’ somewhat using it’s control panel in ‘site setup’.

Create a safe place to play.

Before making changes to your live site, we need to create an area we can play in.

Copy and Paste is your friend!

Adding External Photos

What are some places we can get external photos?

Flickr (www.flickr.com) Google Images (images.google.com)*

*Be careful with Google Image Search!

Adding External Photos

Why would I want to do this?

Flickr automatically resizes your photos to common sizes.

You instantly have a social networking site where people can rate and comment on your photos.

Photo can link directly back to flickr for larger sizes.

Create your own Flickr accountWhen you upgrade to a Pro account for just $24.95 a year you get all

this: Unlimited photo uploads (20MB per photo) Unlimited video uploads (90 seconds max, 150MB per video) The ability to show Video Unlimited storage Unlimited bandwidth Archiving of high-resolution original images The ability to replace a photo Post any of your photos or videos in up to 60 group pools Ad-free browsing and sharing View count and referrer statisticsCompare that to what you get with a Free Account: 100 MB monthly photo upload limit (10MB per photo) 2 video uploads each month (90 seconds max, 150MB per video) Photostream views limited to the 200 most recent images Post any of your photos in up to 10 group pools Only smaller (resized) images accessible (though the originals

are saved in case you upgrade later)

Adding External Photos

Click and drag the photos directly into your website using the ‘edit’ tab. This will create a link to the original picture’s location on the Internet.

However, it will not create a hyperlink back to the photo. (Maybe good, maybe bad.)

Adding External Photos

It is possible to create a link back to Flickr when someone clicks on your photo. This will allow them to see comments on the photo and also see other photos in your Flickr collection.

This is easily done on a picture that is part of your profile.

Other Advantages

The Smithsonian averaged about 200 hits/day on their exhibit pages on their www.si.edu site.

When they started using Flickr and Wikipedia their hits rose to 2,000 hits/day!

When you put your pictures where the people are, they will find them.

Adding External Videos

Why would I want to do this?

Videos are automatically resized and optimized for the Internet.

When you put your videos where the people are, they will find it.

Adding External Videos

Why would I want to do this?

And it just looks cool!

Plinkit Housekeeping

Plinkit won’t let you do this by default!

So, we have to make some changes:

Disable safe_html (or modify the tags)

Reinstall Kupu

Page 20: Advanced Plinkit Training External Content

Embed the Video

Go to the video on YouTube that you want to embed.

Using the ‘embed’ dialog box on the right, choose your options, then copy the code from the embed field.

Paste the code into the Kupu editor using HTML mode.
