The Importance of Healthy Self-Esteem in Young Children

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgLRjrHbGG8

No child should EVER feel this way!

Page 3: Advocating For Self-Esteem

Our Rationale Advocacy Statement:

“I am NOT beautiful like YOU, I am beautiful like ME".

Having positive regard about ourselves in realistic ways.

Young children today stress too much about their outside

appearance.

Embrace yourself.

There are many sources available to help.

There's always going to be a battle to be yourself.

Society sends messages to young children to be someone

they can’t be.

Self- Esteem affects the overall health of the developing child.

How Do People REALLY Feel?(Interview Research)

We interviewed a girl who underwent cosmetic surgery to “enhance” her appearance.

• What type of surgery did you have?

• Did you like yourself before you underwent the surgery?

• What made you decide to have surgery?

• What was the main reason for choosing the surgery?

• Does beauty determine self-esteem?
