Pre-meeting Briefing Notes – Presentation Guidelines As has happened so successfully at recent TMN meetings, it has been agreed that all TMN members attending the meeting will each present a few overheads/ slides on their company's experiences/ lessons learnt/ best practices relating to the meeting topic, to ensure consistency and clear items for subsequent discussion. Please ensure you include ‘case studies’, to bring the lessons learnt and best practices to life more effectively. We have received requests from several members for presentations and discussions to focus on ‘how it is’ within your organisation, rather than ‘how it ought to be’, so please place emphasis on this in your slides, and provide as much real case history illustration as possible. The topic for this meeting is ‘Strategies for technology collaboration with other oil companies in a rapidly changing industry’. The plan for this meeting is to have round-table sharing – as at previous TMN meetings, but then to have a session all together to look at 3 specific areas of possible collaboration. The objective will be to consider what the opportunities for collaboration might be in each area, optimal collaboration strategies, and specific ideas for collaboration with associated action plans. It is proposed that each of these 3 areas is focused on a type of technology driver:

• Access to reserves • Production enhancement • Cost reduction or HS&E compliance

Please cover the following areas in your presentations: 1. What do you see as the key changes taking place in the industry which may affect your

strategies for technology collaboration with other oil companies? (e.g. access to reserves, growing role of NOCs, environmental issues, maturing fields, challenged resources/ unconventional hydrocarbons, rising costs (eg for drilling) etc etc)

2. What are your organisation’s strategies for technology collaboration with other oil companies? 3. How do you see these strategies changing in the future?

o Do you foresee more or less technology collaboration with other oil companies? Why? 4. What do you see as critical success factors for effective technology collaboration with other

oil companies? 5. What mechanisms does your company use for technology collaboration with other oil

companies? (e.g. JIPs, networks, strategic alliances etc etc – please be specific and detailed!) 6. How do you measure the success of technology collaborations with other oil companies? 7. How do you assess and manage risks associated with technology collaboration with other oil

companies? 8. Which future challenges can best be solved by technology collaborations with other oil

companies? (e.g. CO2 capture and storage was mentioned at the last TMN meeting) 9. Can you provide some case histories of technology collaborations your company has

undertaken with other oil companies? o Please give some real examples, including both successes and failures o What critical success factors can you identify?
