Subcommittee Report: Bus Tour 2017: September 26, 2017 update
The Subcommittee, comprised of Paula Rieghns, Peter Janko and Laurie Selpien were tasked with
organizing the event.
OUTSTANDING ITEMS TO BE DECIDED AND UPDATES ON SAME:
1. WHO WILL BE GIVING THE PRESENTATIONS: Craig Pfannkuche, a long‐time bus‐tour‐giver, will
be presenting in the bus and able to give any presentations for properties without presenters.
He requests that the Commission cover his lunch in return for his services. Sean Foley was going
to reach out to the property owners, particularly those who volunteered for an interior
inspection, to ensure they know about the tour and are still okay with it.
2. WILL SOMEONE ON THE BUS BE POINTING OUT THE SCENIC ROADS AND PLACES THAT WE ARE
DRIVING BY BUT NOT STOPPING AT: Yes, Craig. I sent him a copy of the itinerary and the flyers
that Sue made. He asks that his lunch be provided. If the commission can’t pay for his lunch,
then I will.
3. I will be doing a drive of the route to check if the estimated times are appropriate, and giving a
report on that, on Saturday, July 29, 2017. Update: Yes, they are, assuming we can keep
everyone on schedule.
4. Audrey needs a count for lunch no later than October 5. Gloria Mack is in contact with Heavenly
Ham and Audrey re: arrangements for sandwiches and delivery of same.
5. Sean has ticket paper. Sue designed some beautiful tickets to be printed and mailed to the
people who will be attending the tour.
6. Paula Rieghns ordered show covers for the tour of the John James house, and Powers‐Walker, if
necessary/wanted.
7. WHEN: October 14, 2017, leaving at 9:00 a.m., returning 4:30 p.m. (approx.)
8. HOW MANY PASSENGERS: Planning for approximately 20, cap at 40.
9. WHAT TIME IS DEPARTURE: 9:00 a.m.
10. WHAT TIME IS THE RETURN TRIP: Approx. 4:30 p.m.
11. WHERE ARE WE GOING: See Itinerary, below
12. HOW MANY STOPS: Seven (7), NOT including the beginning and return to the Woodstock
Square.
13. HOW MUCH: $20, plus $7 for Heavenly Ham.
14. PAYMENTS: Payments will be taken in person or via phone or via mail to the planning and
development department.
15. FLYER: Susan has designed a beautiful hand‐out. We will also have the updated and corrected
Landmarks brochure. Susan has also made a very nice flyer for advertising purposes.
16. THE BUS OF CHOICE: Should be BusBank, since they have a flat fee and a PA system.
Presumably they have been retained?
17. ADVERTISING: Mr. Janko has done an outstanding job preparing a Facebook page and otherwise
advertising the event. Gail Brown provided a press release that was sent to the Northwest

l""lATIONAL PARK SERVICE . 1849 C Street, N. W. Washington, DC 20240
Dear Certified Local Government Partner:
Interi r
JUN = ·1 20.17
During 2016, the National Park Service designated 38 new communities from across the United States as Certified Local Governments (CLG). We are excited to report that 1 ,966 communities now participate in the CLG program! This is a significant milestone as it also recognizes the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, which created the CLG
program with the 1980 amendments.
"We are proud that last year 38 new communities spanning the country from California to New
York joined us in our commitment to historic preservation and protecting what makes their cities
and towns special," said Associate Director Stephanie Toothman. "These Certified Local Governments now have access to unique resources to preserve the heritage of their communities and promote local economic growth through tourism to their historical areas."
In honor of this significant anniversary, the National Park Service would like to thank the communities who continue to make a commitment to historic preservation on a local level.
Whether one of the early CLGs from 1985 when the program started, or one of our very new partners to join in 2016 we value your partnership in the Federal Preservation Program. The CLG program is a model of Federal, State, and local government c~operation.
Please accept this certificate as a token of our appreciation for your contributions to the Federal
preservation partnership. From New York City to Starkville, Colorado, from county to township, each of you is key to America's ability to preserve, protect, and increase awareness of our
unique cultural heritage found across the country.
