Water management and distribution remains a priority as authorities strive to ensure that these needs are met. 3) BMKG is monitoring the emergence of the hotspots throughout this dry season through to the end of September. They are working constantly to coordinate with relevant authorities and the wider community to continually improve preparedness and awareness of the potential of land and forest fires, the dangers of air pollution and smoke, the potential for land drought and shortages clean water. 4) TS “Karding” and TD “Luis” enhanced rainfall in the northern part of Philippines with declaration of calamity being made for 1 province and 6 municipalities (NDRRMC , DSWD ). 5) hile, there were no damaging earthquakes recorded in the Philippines (PHIVOLCS ). 6) ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC ) activated Alert Level 2 for southern ASEAN region on 13 Aug. Regional Summary of Week 34 and Outlook for Week 35

1) In Week 33, the AHA Centre observed drought and forest fire reports in southern part of

ASEAN region, which is in stark contrast to flooding in the northern part of ASEAN.

2) Drought events have been reported in several locations of Borneo and Java as the hot and

dry weather persists. Water management and distribution remains a priority as authorities

strive to ensure that these needs are met.

3) BMKG is monitoring the emergence of the hotspots throughout this dry season through to

This update consists of significant natural disaster events that occur in ASEAN Member

States, including Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia,

Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam. The disasters recorded

include Drought, Flood, Earthquake, Tsunami, Volcano, Wind, Landslide and Storm.

1) A total of 232 earthquakes were recorded

between 20 Aug and 26 Aug UTC+7 across the

Pacific “Ring of Fire” and its adjacent tectonic

plates. Of these recorded earthquakes, 37

(15.9%) were recorded to be M 5.0 and above.

25 (67.6%) of these major earthquakes (≥M 5.0)

occurred between 20 Aug and 22 Aug within a

span of 48 hours.

2) Nearly a third of the total 232 recorded

earthquakes (68) occurred between 25 Aug and

26 Aug.

3) Of the 232 earthquakes, 32 (13.8%) were

reported within ASEAN region. Of the 32

recorded in the region, 11 (34.4%) were

reported to be M 5.0 and above

4) The AHA Centre also monitored the increased

activities of Mount Anak Krakatau in Sunda

Strait, Indonesia which had a recorded of 76

earthquake and continuous tremor events

(PVMBG). There is no change in alert level of

Indonesian volcanoes. In the Philippines, Mount

Mayon and Kanlaon remain at Alert Level 2.

• A total of 9 aftershocks were felt in Lombok Island,

West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province, Indonesia,

since 19 Aug 2018. Regencies in Lombok and

Mataram were exposed to intensities ranging from

MMI scale of II to IV. The AHA Centre also monitored

• M 5.3 earthquake in Papua on 26 Aug;

• M 4.6 earthquake in Tenggara Bengkulu

Utara on 26 Aug;

• M 4.7 earthquake in Central Sulawesi on 25

Aug;

• M 5.5 earthquake in Barat Lampung on 23

Aug;

• M 4.3 in Pangandaran on 23 Aug (BMKG).

• No casualties and damages reported due to the

earthquake source depth.

• Meanwhile, there were no damaging earthquakes

recorded in the Philippines (PHIVOLCS). AHA

Centre also monitored:

• M 5.0 earthquake in Calayan on 21 Aug;

• M 4.1 earthquake in Baganga on 22 Aug;

• M 4.0 earthquake in Guiuan on 22 Aug;

• M 4.2 earthquake in Jose Abad Santos

on 22 Aug;

• M 5.1 earthquake in Sarangani on 23

Aug;

• M 5.2 earthquake in Guiuan on 24 Aug;

• M 4.5 earthquake in Baras on 25 Aug;

• M 4.0 earthquake in Sarangani on 25
