Swedavia – a sustainable airport group

Swedavia is a state owned company that owns, operates and develops Sweden’s national basic infrastructure of airports – a network of ten airports from Malmö in the south to Kiruna in the north which connects all of Sweden with the rest of the world.

We help to create the access that Sweden needs to facilitate travel, business and meetings in Sweden, elsewhere in Europe and around the world, based on the vision "Together we bring the world closer". Custo-mer focus, sustainable development and security are the foundations of everything Swedavia does, both in the own operation and in the society at large. At the same time, the company shall continually reduce its carbon footprint and help reduce the environmental impact of the entire air travel industry. All of Swedavia’s airports are environmentally certified at the highest level of the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program-me. It is this long-term work that has made Swedavia a world leader in developing airports with the least possible environmental impact.

Sweden and the Gotland region

Sweden is one of the most competitive and productive economies in the world, leading within innovation and with refined consumers and a open mindset to international business and ownership. Sweden is the home of multiple world-leading companies across various sectors and believes in making business easy which results in attractive investment and market opportunities.

Gotland is Sweden's largest island, located east of the mainland and south of Stockholm. The island is the country's most affiliated county, but also the county with the largest share of small businesses. The lar-gest industries in the region is farming, food and stonemasonry. Gotland has a positive development regarding the visiting industry. As a popular tourist destination Gotland welcomes about 800 000 guests per year and during 2016 Gotland reached a record of more than one million guest night stays and close to 2.2 million people traveling to the island by flight and ferry. Also, service firms within the retail, transport, hotel, restaurant and experience trades has developed due to the tourism.

Visby is the most densely populated area of Gotland and one of the World Heritage Sites. Every year the Almedalen Week, also known as the politician week, is arranged in Visby, bringing almost 40 000 trave-lers to the island by flight, four times more than an average week at the airport.

Airports are positively charged environments that signal exclusivity, excitement and expectations, and the majority of the travelers are receptive to change and belong to a market with spending power. Research shows that three out of four travelers feel anticipated before the airport visit. Airport advertising is therefore optimal, offering great opportunities to capture B2B and B2C target groups that are easy to communicate with and remains in the same location for longer periods of time. 93 % of the travelers prefer to spend an hour or more at the airport before departure.

Almedalen Week

Gotland is a popular Swedish tourist destination, with great environ- ment, sights and numerous events during the summer months. It is during this time of year that Visby Airport is experiencing a big increase in the number of travelers. Especially during the politician week, Almedalen Week, the traffic at the airport peaks. In 2017 the airport received close to 35 000 travelers during the week, fourfold the number of travelers at the airport during a regular week.

The high demand on air travel to and from Gotland during the Alme- dalen Week also affect most of Swedavia's other airports which also experience an increase in the number of travelers. During 2017 you could fly to Gotland via direct flight during the Almedalen Week via Stockholm Arlanda, Göteborg Landvetter, Bromma Stockholm, Malmö, Umeå and Åre Östersund Airport.

Visby Airport is located just three and a half kilometer from the city center of Visby. The airport has been in operations since 1942 and had just about 500 000 travelers during 2017. In order to ensure the airports long-term capacity and attractiveness and to meet the demands of the present and future, the airport is now undergoing extensive reconstruc-tion. During 2017 the new check-in and departure halls were opened and during the following years more renovations will be carried out. The refurbishment of Visby Airport is expected to be finished by the end on 2019.

Digital out of home advertising, commonly known as DOOH, is inte- grated and interactive and offers a wide range of possibilities to adapt campaign messages to attain ultimate reach, visibility and impact. Location, the "who" and "where", is the foundation for successful DOOH campaigns. With heavy knowledge of the travelers and main target groups at the airports, Airport Advertising offer solutions for delivering real-world contexts and messages that are close to the target's consciousness and purchase.

The Airport Advertising digital signage consists of more than 300 faces distributed at the ten Swedavia airports, strategically placed for optimized impact among the travelers and broken down into two networks. The portrait series is placed in the largest passenger flows were high reach is enabled and through the landscape gate series messages can be further amplified in areas where the travelers reside for longer periods of time.
