Many of us are fa-miliar with chapter 55 of theQuran where Allah (SWT) repeat-edly asks us, ‘which is it of thefavors of your Lord do youdeny’? Of course we can neverdeny any of Allah’s favors al-though many of us mistakenly doso by our actions. Of all the boun-ties we were blessed with the firstbounty Allah (SWT) mentions inSurah Rahman is Al Quran. Justimagine the great importance and

priority He has placed on thisgreat Quran, and the impor-tance of seeking the knowl-edge, reciting, reading, andunderstanding this blessedQuran. Unfortunately one ofthe ways we might be deny-ing the favor of this Quran isby us placing more priorityon going to academic classesand seminars and also bysending our children to theuniversities while we barelysend them to learn to recitethe Quran. Many of us alsodon’t make the sacrifice tolearn to recite the Quran nordo we attend the free tafseerclasses being offered at theMasjid which will increaseour understanding. By ouractions we show that theblessed Quran which is at thetop of Allah’s list might un-fortunately be at the bottomof our list, Astagfirullah!

Prophet Muhammad(S.A.W) said some peopleare elevated by the Quran andothers are downgraded by it.Those who recite and readand study the Quran will nodoubt be elevated by it andthose who neglect or disre-spect the Quran may bedowngraded by it, may Al-lah (SWT) protect us and ourfamilies from being down-graded, Ameen. We shouldalso remember that the veryfirst verse of the Quranwhich was revealed toProphet Muhammad (SAW)was ‘Iqra’ which was thecommand (not a request) toread or recite…’in the nameof your Lord andCherisher’. Some of us as alast resort do send our chil-dren to Sunday Madrassahbut that is only for 3 to 4hours a week, meanwhile we

send them to academic schoolfive days a week, where is ourpriority my friends? Also,many times when they comeon Sundays they reach late andhaven’t reviewed or done theirhomework from the previousweek due to the amount ofschool homework they have todo daily. So where are we asparents placing the priority inour life versus where Allah(SWT) wants us to place theemphasis and priority? In ad-dition, the message we sendto our kids is that school workcomes first and Quran stud-ies comes after and we areconstantly placing many otherthings as priority over theQuran. The correct way is weshould try our best to send ourchildren to Islamic schools orat the very least send them todaily Madrassah and weshould review their work withthem.

As I sit to write this reflection, I am keenlyaware that we recently celebrated the14th an-niversary of that devastating day of Septem-ber 11, 2001. I have no doubt that most ofus can remember where we were, who wewere with and what we felt when we heard,

and perhaps even witnessed those events unfold. I was in myDirector’s office at Palmetto Hospital in Hialeah, Florida. Iremember my administrator and others screaming. We boththen made our way to the nearby Doctor’s in Residence areaand began to view those horrible….horrible scenes on TV. Toomuch to view…too much to take in…far too much to evaluateand understand. I would learn that my brother-in-law was oneof the First- Responders, he still finds it hard to think aboutand certainly to share. My wife and I would learn that oureldest daughter had missed her train from Jersey City to Man-hattan that morning. If on time, she would have been belowGround Zero at the time of the devastation. Even today, aspostings may appear on Facebook, as Memorial Services wereheld, and as loved ones bow heads and hearts , is it not still:Too much to view…too much to take in…and far too much toevaluate and understand? From the beginning of time, we haverecords of humanity’s attempts to destroy one another. Yet,also from the beginning of time, we know of individuals andgroups that have risen as beacons of light amidst and despitesuch negativity. What makes the difference? I remember hear-ing a wise tale that a grandfather shared with his beloved grand-son. His grandson adored him, and often sat as his feet to hearhis many stories. This time the grandfather said, “You mustalways remember my son, that there are two wolves livingwithin you. One is evil, filled with hatred, jealously, prejudiceand who wants to always inflict harm. The other is good,filled with kindness, forgiveness, understanding, mercy andwho always wants to be a source of peace. “The young boythought long and hard, and then questioned his grandfather: “Ifthese two wolves are within me, and they are so different,which of the two will eventually win and take control.” Thegrandfather responded, “The one you feed.” Which one do wefeed? I believe our answer might allow us to respond properlyto the question about how we can make a difference in a worldthat continues to witness both sides of humanity. As I sit herethis day and reflect on past devastation(s) I believe the answerlies within each and every one of us. As I reflect on the devas-tations of war, another particular instance surfaces that oc-curred during WWII, the bombing of Coventry Cathedral inEngland. I am also keenly aware of that faith community’sresponse that led to the development of the “Community of theCross of Nails.”

narrate the other juristic doctrines which are also called depen-dent sources developed by the scholars belonging to variousschools. Ijma literally means “collecting” or “assembling”. Inthe context of Jurisprudence it would mean unanimous con-sent of the Mujtahideen or learned doctors. Although the Mus-lim scholars give Ijma the third place in descending order, afterQuran and Sunnah, modern critics consider it to be the mostimportant element in Islamic law. Eminent Jurist Abdur Rahimin his book “The Principles of Muhammadan Jurisprudence”has laid down that the authority of Ijma as a source of laws isfounded on certain Quranic and traditional texts. The principleunderlying these texts is expressed in especially apt terms inone of them which says: ‘Whatever the Muslims hold to begood is good before God’. The other texts relied on in thisconnexion are the following:-‘My followers will never agreeupon what is wrong’.‘it is incumbent upon you to follow the most numerous body’.‘The (protecting)hand of God is over the entire body and noaccount will be taken of those who separate themselves.’‘Whoever separates himself (from the main body) will go tohell’.‘He who opposes the people to the extent of a span will die thedeath of men who died in the days of ignorance.‘God does not allow the people to go astray after he has shownthem the right path.’‘Do not be like those who separated and divided after they hadreceived clear proofs.’‘To-day we have completed your religion.’‘What lies outside the truth is an error.’‘Obey God and obey the Prophet and those amongst you whohave authority.’‘If you yourself do not know, then question those who do.’‘You are the best of men, and it is your duty to order men to dowhat is right and to forbid them from practicing what is wrong’.‘We have made you followers of the middle course so that youmay be witnesses (of truth) to others.‘He who breaks away from the Prophet after he has been shownthe right path and follows the ways of men other than Mus-lims, we shall give him what he has chosen and relegate him tohell’.

Assalamu alaikum, My dear sisters: Throughout the day, wemust try to consistently think about Allah (SWT) and praiseHim (Subhanallah..Glory be to Allah, Alhamdulilah...All Praiseis for Allah, AllahuAkbar...Allah is The Greatest). Allah istruly “The Majestic”, “The Mighty”, “The Creator”. He hascreated the masterpiece of this universe, however, His truemasterpiece is in the Heavens. In the universe, from thebirds to the flowers to the skies , the mountains and thebeautiful seas; they are all but a small sampling of Allah’sexquisite art. These creations do not know of its own beautyand significance, but we (humans) are the beneficiaries ofthese creations. We are the only ones (as far as we know),who are capable of perceiving beauty, appreciating it andexpressing our wonder of Allah’s creations. Every tree servesa purpose, as does every drop of rain, every ray of sunshine,as does the darkness of the night. Allah (SWT) has createdthe sun, moon and stars for our benefit and we are allsubservient to Him. Allah’s (SWT) greatness is reflected inhumans, because He has given life to billions of people onthis earth, and He has created for each one, specific andunique features and personality, so that no one is exactly thesame (Alhamdulilah). Imagine a world without color, withoutbeauty, without trees, flowers, mountains, birds and withoutblue skies!!. Allah’s (SWT) magnificence shows in the colorsand beauty of the earth that He has created. Every breath ofair we breathe, every time we blink, every movement of ourlimbs, every heartbeat, every second we are able to see, hear,speak, think, taste,are all blessings from Allah (SWT), thatwe should not take for granted. Allah (SWT) is truly amazingand He alone is responsible for all these blessings. “Which ofthe favors of your Lord do you deny?” At the sight andthought of Allah’s creations and craftsmanship, we should bemoved to praise Him.

The Internet today has become the newmedia where millions of people especiallythe teenagers spend hours exploring, dig-ging, and learning. While spending timebehind a computer was considered as arather eccentric hobby in the early 1980's,

it is now the most effective communication method largelyamong young people, enabling us to connect even with the far-thest parts of the world. Besides, social media, a big part of theInternet with a massive amount of users, (Facebook has 1.3billion users and Twitter 307 million active users) can easilyshape national policies, determine international headlines, affectindividual lives and set worldwide trends. These unique toolsspecific to the modern age, are capable of doing immense good,but they also have the potential of inflicting serious damage.The very real problem of disinformation is one of these issuesthat the growing influence of the Internet is bringing to light.The countless number of people on the Internet, and more im-portantly on social media, are continually producing massiveamounts of information. Some is useful, some mundane, andsome intentionally wrong. Wrong information. Why and how?Usually defined as false information that is given to people inorder to make them believe something or to hide the truth,disinformation is sometimes used as a psychological warfaremethod in the media, politics, the economy, sports and the mili-tary. At a time when most people get their information from theInternet, how safe are we in terms of what we learn, consider-ing that a major part of the data found on Internet is not entirelyreliable? The Gezi Park protests in Turkey, which was notori-ously fueled by social media postings mainly by the youth whojoined the protests, is a good example. According to the SocialMedia Track System, on March 31st 2013 alone, 15,247,000Tweets were posted and five million of them were provocativeinformation. Among these fallacious posts, there was one photoshowing people who participated in the Eurasia Marathon, andthis was presented as 'a march from the Bosporus Bridge toTaksim as a part of the Gezi protest.' The US, home to thehighest number of Internet users, is naturally not immune tothis peril and greatly suffers from its effects. For instance,even though all the detected patients in the US tested negativefor the Ebola virus, people nonetheless Tweeted as if the dis-ease was spreading rapidly in cities and it could infect othersthrough air, water or food, all of which was grotesquely dis-torted information. These and countless other examples areenough to demonstrate that the Internet might be manipulatedfor not-so-good intentions as much as for good.

It was dark all around. He had walkedabout 3 miles. Suddenly he saw a fire andwalked towards it. He saw a woman whohad a pot with the boiling water on thestove and three kids around her crying.

When he inquired, he learned that these kids were hers andhave been hungry for quite some time, have nothing to eat andin order to appease them she has a pot with only boiling wateron the stove. Hearing this, sadness overcame his face. He turnedaround and walked towards his house. He gathered severalitems, including food and other articles and asked his servantto put the sack on his back. The servant wanted the sack onhis back and walk with him, however this tall and impressivepersonality said, “Will you carry my weight on the day of judg-ment too? I have to carry my own weight”. He loaded the sackon his back and walked back 3 miles to the house he had foundthe woman with her three children. He sat there and watchedthe children until they were fully fed. He came back happilyafter. This tall and impressive personality is known among theMuslim Ummah as Sayyadna Umar (RA), the second Khalifah(caliph), who often walked among his people at night to findout how things were. We also know him as Umar Ibn-al-Khattab(RA). His lineage is linked to the holy Prophet (SAW) at the 9th

level. He was born 13 years after the year of the elephants (theyear the elephants were brought to attack the holy Kaabah) andaccepted Islam at age 27. Since the holy Prophet (SAW) (SAW(SAW) used to pray a lot to Allaah (SWT) for Umar (RA) toaccept Islam, he was extremely pleased when he heard thenews and walked towards him, hugged him and rubbed hishand on his chest and prayed that may Allaah (SWT) fill hisheart with Imaan, and take out hatred, enmity and jealousyaltogether. Even the Archangel Jibraeel (AS) came to the holyProphet (SAW) and congratulated him on Umar’s (RA) accep-tance of Islam. Umar’s (RA) acceptance of Islam gave an im-mediate boost to the religion and the Muslims, and they startedto offer their prayers openly in the holy Kaabah. He is the oneand only Companion who accepted Islam openly and also mi-grated to Madinah defiantly. At the time of him migrating toMadinah, he circumnavigated around the holy Kaabah and chal-lenged the infidels of Makkah by saying, “I am migrating toMadinah but do not think that I am hiding. If you want yourchildren to become orphans and your wives to become wid-ows, then come and stop me”. However, none accepted thechallenge. After the migration, Umar (RA) took part in all thebattles with the holy Prophet (SAW). In the battle of Badar, hekilled his real uncle, Aas bin Hisham. Despite the chaos andconfusion in the battle of Uhad, he did not leave his assignedpost, like many others did.

ladies were enjoying the breeze and socializing with eachother. Next to our bench was an Arab family with theirchildren. The father took the kids into the ocean andthey were enjoying the surf and splashing of the water.The family was having fun. I saw the mother, an at-tractive women, dressed in black abaya covering herfrom head to toe, except her face. She sat on the benchand watched her family enjoying the beach. Less than100 feet from her was an American women lying onthe sand in a very short two-piece bikini that barelycovered her privates. She was quietly sunbathing onher beach towel. The two women tolerated each other.They tolerated their dresses and appearances. The Arabwomen did not criticize the American women for notproperly covering up her body, and the American womendid not criticize the Arab women for too much cover-ing up her body at the beach. They tolerated their pres-ence within 100 feet of each other with such a vastdifference of dress and morality. This is the beauty ofAmerica. The Arab women then offered the Asar Salatwhile sitting on the bench. The American women gotup, looked at the Arab women and smiled and waved.The Arab women smiled and nodded. They both ac-cepted each other’s existence at that location and bothwere able to enjoy the beach. I can tell you many suchexamples of tolerance in non-Muslim countries. I wrotea long paragraph about “tolerance” in Muslim coun-tries, which I deleted. Tolerance means accepting andvaluing differences between people. It is a moral obli-gation which involves mutual respect and considerationbetween people. Tolerance is the virtue of a civilizedage, whereas intolerance is the sign of an inadequateeducation system. Last summer Pope Francis said inan interview “If someone is gay and searching for thelord and has good will, then who am I to judge him?”Despite of it’s many flaws and problems, America is abeautiful country with virtues such as tolerance, free-doms, social justice and many other values. I will at-tempt to write more about them. I love America. This isthe home of my children, grand-children and their chil-dren.

Assalaamu Alaikum! How are you, how is work(business)? A phrase you hear every time you meetor greet someone. The answer usually Al-Hamdulillaah, never felt better. Did you ever getan unusual answer like “I don’t know”? If youdid, your instant question will be what do you mean Bro. Adel Asouti“you don’t know”, don’t you have a job (business)? “Yes I do”. Sowhat do you do when you go there? “I don’t know”. Such replies willdefinitely make you wonder if that person is all right. Now let me askyou, how are you with Allah? Have you ever asked or been asked thisquestion? Will you say or hear a positive Al-Hamdulillaah, great, neverfelt better, or the unfortunate answer of “I don’t know”, you may notsay it with your tongue or hear this with your ears, but actions speaklouder than words. Are you happy with your condition with Allah orthe condition of the Ummah? “God will not alter the condition of apeople until they change what is in themselves” [Al-Rad: 11]. Goddoesn’t change the condition of a people from good to evil, evil togood, prosperity to the severity, and intensity to prosperity. Allah Al-mighty may wait patiently and give a chance so they might return,then take them by surprise, as the Almighty said: “When they forgot(the warning) which they had been reminded, We opened for them thedoors of every (pleasant) thing, until when they are in the midst oftheir enjoyment and they rejoiced for what they were given, suddenlywe took them (in punishment) and then they were plunged into de-struction with deep regrets and sorrows” [Al-Anaam: 44]. “Think notthat Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers are doing, but he givesthem respite up to a day when their eyes will stare in horror” [ Ibrahim:42]. Allah may postpone and wait until after death, and this is thegreatest punishment. “So that Allah will never change the grace (bless-ing) on a people until they change what is in themselves” [Al-Anfal:53]. We all agree (unless we are still in denial) that we need to makemajor changes in the way we’re (spending) our lives, to do so, firstwe need to sincerely answer the following question- do we have a job(business) in this life? Allah made the answer easy for us, and told uswhat our purpose in life is. “I didn’t created the jinn and mankindexcept to worship me” [Al-Zariyat: 56]. In this verse Allah Almightysingled out the jinn and mankind from his creations in the matter ofworship, he did not mentioned his other greatest creation the angels,because they are created to worship and don’t have a choice, they arecreated at the very beginning, and predisposed to worship Allah. “Neverdisobey Allah’s commands and do what they were ordered” [Al-Tahrim:6], this verse talks about the chosen creation, which is expected toobey, and disobey. Why were Jinn mentioned ahead of mankind in thismatter? Some scholars said: because worship either secret or aloud,and worship of the jinn is secret because we do not see them, and toworship in secrecy is better because it’s clear from hypocrisy, and theworship of mankind usually aloud and often includes showing off.

Also in the Qur’aan, you willfind that the father of the jinn(Iblis) and his generation be-lievers and disbelievers (Satan)were created before our fatherAdam. “And the Jinn, We cre-ated them way before from thesmokeless flame of fire” [Al-Hijr: 27]. The departure ofmost mankind from worship-ping Allah is because of theSatan, one of the Jinn. “Ex-cept Iblis, he was one of theJinn, he disobeyed the com-mand of Allah” [Al-Kahf: 50].The Hadith narrated by AbuHurairah (R.A) from theProphet (PBUH) said: (Allahsays: O son of Adam! devoteyourself to solely worship MeI should fill out your chest withpleasure and blessings, andtake care of your poverty(needs), if not I’ll fill yourhands with nothing and keepyou always occupied, and willnot fulfill your poverty(needs), narrated by Al-Tirmidhi. The worship of Godis the great task for which thecreation was created, and isoverall concept not limited toperform devotional-prayer and

fasting and Hajj, etc.., but ex-tends to all human life orga-nized various aspects and ac-tivities so everything we dowill not come out from wor-shipping Allah, and also ex-tends to all that Allah loves andwhat pleases him from goodwords, and good deeds se-cretly and openly. “Say that myprayer, my sacrifice, my lifeand death is for Allah” [Al-Anaam: 162]. So live, and en-joy life to the fullest. Plan withthe will of God to learn, teach,love and be loved, get a job,get married, have kids takecare of your health andwealth. Love your parents,family, and kids. Be good toyour friends and neighborsetc,. Do all this with the re-membrance and the fear ofAllah in your heart and don’tlet life take you away fromyour intent purpose. “Anddon’t be like those who for-get Allah (wrongdoers), and hecaused them to forget theirownself, those are theFaasiqoon (rebellious, disobe-dient ones to Allah)”. [Al-Hashr: 59].

Most Muslims are very busy people aswe are always find ourselves engaged inactivities e.g. salah, fasting etc. that arepleasing to Almighty Allah. In this article,however, I would like to lay emphasis ona special type of activity, which, if ex-

ecuted by following the proper guidelines, numerous benefitswould be to our advantage. This activity is one that is physicalin nature and is called ‘walking’. If you are sluggish, sick orinjury-prone you can start of by walking slowly with short foot-steps and then gradually increase the pace and distance onceyour body permits the rise in workload. However, much moreis expected of a healthy and fit person, as he or she can do briskwalking and make longer strides over greater distances. Yourdiscretion or mental judgement of your body’s needs and abili-ties is of vital importance in guiding you along a successful pathof making walking an enjoyable physical pursuit. Can consult adoctor if need be. Who is a role model for us Muslims as re-gards walking? Was our rasul (prophet) a walker? Surely so.He walked for miles trying to put smiles on faces. Walking wastherefore a sunnah (practice) of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.)as this was his mode of travel to the masjid (mosque) and in hispropagation of the deen (religion) of Islam. In fact, he told usthat whenever we walk to the mosque Allah will erase our baddeeds and replace them with good ones. The deriving of spiri-tual benefits therefore inevitably accrues from walking. It isnoteworthy for us to know that all the other prophets in addi-tion to Muhammad (SAW) walked through their lands to achievethe spiritual objectives as ordained by Almighty Allah. May Allahreward them all copiously with His Barakat (blessings) in theAkhirah (Hereafter) Insha Allah. What then are some of theother benefits we all can get from walking. I will state or list afew of them:•Burning of calories leading to shedding of pounds (weight loss)•Breathing rate increases thereby causing a faster flow of oxy-gen in the bloodstream thus improving energy levels•Bringing oxygen to the joints hence improving their health andlife•Promoting longer life•Brightening up of moods•Reducing the loss of bone mass and fractures•Strengthening of muscles, heart and bone•Making way for better sleep•Lowering mental decline•Improving daily physical activities thereby making them lessburdensome and troublesome•Lowering of stroke and the risk of getting colon, breast orwomb cancer•Preserving of memory with the passage of time

In the battle of BaniMustalaq, Umar (RA) captureda spy of the infidels; and killedhim after getting all the infor-mation from him. This createda lot of fear in the enemy rankand file. Umar (RA) was notin favor of the treaty ofHudaibiya, but bowed out be-cause of the holy Prophet(SAW). And when Surah Al-Fatah (Chapter 48) was re-vealed, the holy Prophet(SAW) specifically recited thisto Umar (RA) because therewas great news of victoryconcerning him as well in thischapter. In the battle ofKhyber, Umar (RA) arresteda spy of the enemy andbrought him to the holyProphet (SAW). The informa-tion gathered from the spyproved to be pivotal in the con-quest of Khyber. After the con-quest of Makkah, Umar (RA)asked the holy Prophet (SAW)to perform Umrah. The holyProphet (SAW) granted thisrequest with pleasure and saidto Umar (RA), “oh mybrother! include us in yourprayers and please do not for-get us.” It is said that Umar(RA) often used to relate to hiscompanions about this sayingfrom the holy Prophet (SAW)that the whole world wouldnot be enough in comparisonto this. Sayyadna Umar (RA)was very strict regarding infi-delity and hypocrisy and ab-horred the nonbelievers, infi-dels and hypocrites. Once aJew and a hypocrite came tothe holy Prophet (SAW)for adispute resolution.

We also have to realize thatsocial media gives regular people immensepower and if it is harnessed in the rightway, it can be one of the most powerfulinstruments in the world. Remember whenMichelle Obama started a campaign tobring back 200 girls kidnapped by BokoHaram, the Nigeria-based terrorist orga-nization in April 2014. The whole worldrose up, politicians discussed the subjectand commentators wrote about it in theircolumns; people used social media day andnight in an effort to have the girls returned.Regrettably, it was a short-lived zeal andthe incident was quickly forgotten, andthe girls remained in captivity. The samething can be said for the violence target-ing innocent people, including children inthe Central African Republic, the Rohingyaof Myanmar, one of the world’s mostpersecuted people, and the Bangladeshi ad-ministration executing the elderly. All thesesubjects rightfully drew the world’s at-tention at one point through the Internet,but were later forgotten. Yet, the tragedycontinues and it is possible to take actionon an individual basis. These campaignsthat started something so blessed can beeasily continued until an effective solu-tion is reached.

The holy Prophet (SAW) ruled in favorof the jew but the hypocrite did not ac-cept the ruling and went to Umar (RA)for a decision. Umar (RA) found out thatthe holy Prophet (SAW) had already ruledon the dispute in favor of the jew. With-out hesitation, he beheaded the hypocritewith his sword and said, “who ever doesnot accept the ruling of our holy Prophet(SAW), I will do the same again”. Onseveral occasions, the opinions and sug-gestions offered by Umar (RA) were sup-ported by the revelation of several versesby Allaah SWT. The issue of “Purdah”(the shroud around the body) for thewives of the holy Prophet (SAW), pris-oners of the battle of Badar, offering tworakaahs at Muqaam-e- Ibraheem, prohi-bition of alcohol, seeking permission toenter someone’s house and the issue ofchastity of Aisha (RA) are several vitalissues opined upon by Umar (RA) andaffirmed by the Qur’anic verses revealedon the subjects. According to several

Muslim scholars, about 25 verses in theQur’an were revealed affirming the sug-gestions and opinions offered by Umar(RA). When Sayyadna Umar (RA) wasinstalled as the Khalifah, he proclaimedthat whosoever differs with me on a sub-ject is free to criticize me for an explana-tion. Umar (RA) was the first one forhome the title “Ameer ul Momineen” wasused. During his tenure, he regularlywalked around the city to gauge the con-ditions of his people. During his time, heallotted a scholarship for his son for 3,000dirhams, whereas Hassan (RA) andHussain (RA), the grand sons of the holyProphet (SAW), received 5,000 each.Umar (RA) married Umme Kulsoom, thedaughter of Ali & Fatimah (RA), during17 AH with a mahar (dowry) of 40,000dirhams. Umar (RA) strictly forbade hisofficials to wear fancy clothing, eatingrefined foods and keeping a guard at theirresidences and periodically checked onthem too. Once he traveled to Syria,

where Muaavia (RA) was the governorat the time. Muaavia (RA) was dressedin fancy clothing and there was a guardat the residential door. He immediately in-quired and Muaavia (RA) replied that thiswas our border town which was filledwith enemy spies. By dressing up nicelyand keeping a guard at the gate impressesthem and keeps the enemy on their toes.Umar (RA) was satisfied with his answer.During his tenure, the Muslims conqueredEgypt, Iran, Rome and Syria. In addition,the Muslims conquered around 1,036 cit-ies and their vicinities. A masjid was im-mediately built at every conquered city.During his reign, 4,000 masajid were builtfor five-time prayers and about 900 wereespecially built for Friday congregationalprayers. The first Qiblah, Jerusalem, wasalso conquered without any bloodshedduring his tenure.

On 27 Dhul Hajj,on a Wednesday, an Iranian de-scent slave Abu Feroz attackedhim with a poison laden daggerand severely injured Umar (RA)as he offered Fajr salaah. Aftera few days, on first ofMuharram, on a Sunday, TheEarnest Desire of the holyProphet (SAW), a great com-panion, and the greatest Khalifahpassed away at the age of 63.Suhaib Roomi (RA) led the fu-neral prayers. He is buried nextto the holy Prophet (SAW) andAbu Bakr Siddiq (RA).

Also, if we as parents can’t re-cite the Quran properly how canwe review or even pray salaahproperly? We too must try toattend recitation, tafseer, fiqhand seerah classes during theweek. As Muslims, we and ourchildren must know and acceptthat Allah’s Quran is the #1 pri-ority and we must place the cor-rect level of importance requiredby Allah (SWT) when it comesto His blessed book. Theamount of Quran we know willalso determine our level inJannah and how pleased Allahis with us. My friends, if wedon’t give the Quran priority inour lives as commanded by Al-lah SWT and we choose to learnit and recite it and understand itonly when we choose to and

when we have extra time, weshould then beware! We wouldbe technically saying to Allah(SWT) that the Quran is not apriority for us and that it is infact at the bottom of our list. Inreturn, it’s possible that Allahmay also not give us priority inlife and may place us at the bot-tom of His list! May Allah al-ways protect us and place us atthe top of His list, ameen. Allah(SWT) says in hadith Qudsi, ‘Iam with you the way you thinkI am with you’, so how we re-member Allah is how He will re-member us, if make very littletime for Him in our life He maymake very little time for us. Ifwe put His Quran as a priorityin our lives He will no doubtmake us a priority. When weconnect with Allah (SWT) thrudaily salaah and thru reciting andunderstanding the Quran, greatthing happen my friends andmany doors open for us and ourfamilies in this life and in thehereafter. Remember the par-ents of every Hafiz will each begiven a crown to wear in Jannahby Allah (SWT)! My friends, letus make the sincere intentiontoday to change our attitude andour performance in life, let usmake every effort to ensure thatwe and our children learn to re-cite and understand the Quranor learn to recite more of it on adaily basis and let us also nevermiss another salaah. Let us alsostrive to have better behaviorand character, and to moreclosely emulate the life of thenoble Prophet Muhammed(SAW). In this way we willhopefully do much better in thesight of Allah by giving greaterpriority in our lives to Him andHis Quran and His last Prophet,Insha Allah. May Allah give usthe guidance, motivation andability to implement these criti-cal changes in our lives today,Ameen.
