Week 4 Term 3
This week has been another very busy week with additional practice and excitement as we draw closer to our musical performances next week. Classes have been practising and costumes are being finalised along with full rehearsals and the whole show is coming together. The musical committee has done an incredible job of coordinating 630 students and a huge number of staff in preparation for the 2 big nights next week. We hope to see you at our performances. Despite the amount of work and change to usual routines that occur at times like these, the students are ticking off many curriculum links and learning about the roles in music and theatre. If you have any further questions about the performance, booking tickets or the organisation for the performances next Tuesday and Wednesday nights, please refer to the note that went home 2 weeks ago or contact the class teacher.
High five to our thoughtful and caring students who worked together to raise money for the Starlight Foundation last Monday. Nathalie, Cooper, Grainne, Isabella, Olive, Nikita, Oscar and Amali made and sold cupcakes and biscuits as part of “beanie day”. Thanks to everyone for supporting this great cause. The students raised $468.00.
Yesterday we held Coffee and Cake. Mr Damian Toohey from Albury HS talked about what to expect with the transitions to high school, with a special focus on boys. The session was insightful and allowed the parents who attended to talk freely and ask questions about matters that were challenging them. This fantastically informative session will be repeated on Tuesday 24 September in a twilight session prior to the P&C meeting.
On Wednesday we welcomed students from Thurgoona Public School to take part in the Premier's Debating Challenge. Both teams showed fantastic skill resulting in a draw. The APS team members: Bastian Hitchon, Mia Sheather, Lacey Harrison, Jonah Mobbs (team advisor), persuaded the adjudicator, ‘That every afternoon session should not be dedicated to creativity and arts.’ Well done debaters and Miss Brain.
24 stage 3 girls participated in the Katrina Fanning Cup rugby league gala day on Tuesday at Sarvaas Park. We started the day with a tackling workshop, learning how to tackle and be tackled before taking part in three matches to determine the winner of the day. All of the girls displayed great enthusiasm as they developed their skills in a new sport and can be commended on how quickly they picked up the rules and nuances of the game. After finishing equal on points with Melrose PS, and with the same points differential, we had to be split on tries scored to see who would progress to the next round and unfortunately missed out by just one try. Well done to Emily Loxton, Layne Griparis and Rosie Haszard who were voted as the MVPs for their teams.
The Albury Wodonga Farmers Market has organised a Special Screening of the Film 2040 as a Community Event. The film follows an aspirational journey to discover what the future could look like in 2019 if we simply embraced the best solutions we have available to naturally heal the environment around us. School communities are invited to this screening on Thursday, 22 August 2019 at 6:30pm at the Regent Cinema Albury.
Our annual Lapathon is being held on Tuesday 27 August from 11:45am-2:30pm. During the Lapathon students can walk or run around a set course in our school grounds. We welcome parents or carers to come along and join us for a walk or a run on the day. To make this event even more exciting we are incorporating our Book Week Parade. The theme this year is “Reading is My Secret Power!” All students are encouraged to dress up for the Lapathon in a Book Week costume or they can come dressed in sunsafe, casual clothes in their School House Colour. More information about the Lapathon was sent home last week.
If you are in the school, don’t forget to check out our new greenspace. The space has been enhanced by the inclusion of some of our NAIDOC artwork, “We show respect. We share this land. We walk together. Hand in hand”.
Have a great week.

Book Week – Character Dress up Day
To help celebrate Children’s Book Week we are having a
dress up day. This year’s theme is “Reading is my secret
power.” On Tuesday 27 August, children are able to come
dressed to school using the theme as inspiration or as their
favourite book character. As we have combined the Dress-
up day with the annual lap-a-thon, appropriate footwear is
essential.
Book Fair:
As part of our Book Week celebrations the library is
hosting a Scholastic Book Fair. This will occur from
Tuesday 27 August to Thursday 5 September. The books

"wish list" for parents to view. Purchasing of books will
occur the following week. The library will be open to parents from 8.30 to 9 am in the
morning and after school to 4 pm.
