BULLETIN Probus Club of Kamloops. April 2016 Ward Strong Ward is a forest entomologist at the Kalamalka Forestry Centre near Okana- gan College in Vernon. His work there focuses on cone and seed pests, and breeding forestry trees for pest resis- tance. Having spent his career working with insects as both pests and benefi- cials, Ward has come to a fine apprecia- tion of the role of insects in the eco- system, as well as in our society. In this presentation, Ward will discuss a native insect that found its way to Europe as an alien invasive, and his contribution to the effort to resolve that problem using biological control. Ward has a B.Sc in Agriculture from UBC, an M.Sc. in entomology from SFU, and a Ph.D. in entomology from Oregon State Univer- sity in Corvallis, Oregon. --Ward. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEENOMINATIONS

Here’s a photo of our dinner group. It was a Saudi dinner which was an adven-ture into the culture and food of Saudi Arabia, what an experience! Shane

Ladies Fun GolfThe season has got off to a good start with 2 players the first day and 6 this past Wednesday. Everyone seems to have a good time even if their golf is not so hot at the start of the season. Must say though one of the ladies had a birdie and a par last week. These holes we remember others we would rather forget. Generally most only do the 11 holes and stop for coffee or lunch. Our tee times follow the Probus men which seems convenient for the couples who want to meet up after. The only real complaint we have is theoccasional slow pace at which the men golf. Seems they spend time looking for their lost golf balls, lining up putts or

At the General Meeting on April 28, there will be a sign-up sheet for members to indicate their interest and willingness to assist in conti-nued op-eration of our club. The sign-up sheet will also have a space for members to nominate others for a position.

just chatting. The ladies have a polithera of gently used golf balls and would be happy to donate a few if it would hurry them along.😊. Sorry for the friendlypoke at you men. We do have a good time and enjoy the group camaraderie.

Mens weekly golf is up and running on Wednesdays at Pineridge Golf Course. There is the usual grumbling that golf scores are not as good as when we stopped playing last October. Some of us persist in using pen-cils with erasers. Currently we are averaging 6 golfers a week but this should grow as the weather warms.

Probus women golfers tee off right after us. Our relationship with them is indeed friendly although there are gentle hints that, on rare occasion, it might be better if the men spent less time talking at the T box and searching for lost balls. The men respond by saying this is, after all, “seniors day “ on the course. We are how-ever encouraging our members to be mindful of the golf rule of moving along at the pace set by the four-some in front of us.

    Cheers, Bob

Some photos of the Men’s Cookers. They cooked ratatouille with BBQ beef shishkabob and fresh machine herb bread which were delicious!

What was Tom looking for in the tree. I am sure it was not his golf ball.

The Tea Connoisseurs took a tour Of David’s Teas where various teas were explained and sampled.
