Alex Barlow BVSc, MSc, MRCVS Alex is a veterinary pathologist, specialising in investigation of diseases in wild European mammals. Alex Barlow BVSc, MSc, MRCVS Alex is a veterinary pathologist, specialising in investigation of diseases in wild European mammals. He qualified from Liverpool in 1978 and completed an MSc in fish pathology at the Institute of Aquaculture, Stirling University, in 1981. Tom Dutton BVM&S CertAVP(ZooMed) DipECZM(avian) MRCVS. Tom graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2011, he completed a rotating internship before beginning his residency at Great Western Exotics in 2012. Tom successfully gained his Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in zoo medicine (CertAVP(ZooMed)) in 2014 and his European diploma in avian medicine (DipECZM(Avian)) and European and RCVS specialist status in 2017. Tom lectures on all aspects of exotic animal medicine to veterinarians and vet nurses. He supervises the only UK-based European College of Zoological Medicine avian residency programme.

Professor Richard (Dez) Delahay Richard (Dez) Delahay is a wildlife biologist working for the National Wildlife Management Centre (NWMC) at APHA. His areas of research expertise are in the epidemiology and management of disease in wildlife and bovine tuberculosis infection in badgers in particular. He is the lead scientist at APHA’s Woodchester Park Research Station where he oversees field studies on bovine TB dynamics in wild badger populations and provides advice to UK Government departments. Current research interests include the spatio-temporal dynamics of TB infection in badgers and cattle, social behaviour and disease spread, and field deployment of TB vaccines in badgers. He co-ordinates a strategic research partnership with Exeter University where he has an Honorary Visiting Chair. He is an author on over 150 peer-reviewed scientific papers and is the principal editor of a book on managing disease in wild mammals. Geoff Edmond RSPCA National Wildlife Officer Co-ordinator. Geoff has been an RSPCA Inspector for 26 years and currently holds the position of National Wildlife Officer Co-ordinator. he has been involved in wildlife crime investigations since around 1983 starting with badger related investigations with the Police and RSPCA. He is involved in all aspects of wildlife from continued investigations through to wildlife rehabilitation. He provides wildlife advice and assist with the training of his colleagues and external partners. The RSPCA Wildlife Officer team are specialist officers who take this on as an additional role to provide experience, advice and response to wildlife emergencies.

Daniel Hargreaves Daniel is a Bat Conservationist based in the UK; amongst many projects Daniel is the coordinator for the National Nathusius Pipistrelle Project investigating the ecology and habits of this migratory species. Overseas he manages projects in Thailand and Trinidad and has a wealth of knowledge of bats from around the World. In 2012 he was awarded the Bat Conservation Trust Pete Guest Award for an outstanding practical contribution to bat conservation including dedication, innovation, enthusiasm and inspiration in making a difference, both to bats and to people.

Liz Mullineaux BVM&S, DVM&S, CertSHP, MRCVS. Liz worked in mixed practice, overseas and in the UK, before settling in Somerset as a director of Quantock Veterinary Hospital for 17 years, a role that included the clinical veterinary work at Secret World Wildlife Rescue. Having developed an interesting in British wildlife, in 2011 she completed a clinical doctorate investigating the factors influencing badger rehabilitation and release and gained RCVS Recognised Specialist in Wildlife Medicine. She now work as Scientific Advisor to Secret World, alongside small animal emergency medicine and academic part-time roles. Her main interest is the appropriate clinical care of British wildlife casualties. She is co-editor of the BSAVA Manual of Wildlife Casualties and author of several other publications on wildlife medicine.

Andy Parr Andy has been involved with badgers and badger conservation since the early 1990’s. He is a life member of the Lancashire Badger Group and a committee member of the Somerset Badger Group. He was employed as the Wildlife Release Manager at SWWR from 2009 to 2015. During this period he undertook extensive research into the post release monitoring of rehabilitated wildlife, including the following species: Badger, Fox, Otter, Polecat, Tawny and

Barn Owls. He specialises in dealing with “orphaned or abandoned” badger cubs and has extensive experience in the return of “problem cubs” to the natal sett. In 2016 he published a hand book: “The Return of Badger Cub’s to the Natal Sett Following Short Term Rehabilitation” which is aimed at assisting wildlife rescue centres and badger groups. He currently works as a part time ecologist and liaises closely with badger groups dealing with issues relating to wildlife persecution. He is used by the Police as an expert witness in cases of badger persecution. Currently he continues his research into the return of badger cubs (following short term rehabilitation) and is working on a new research project: Radio Tracking (using fur tags) badger cubs following short term rehabilitation.

Alick Simmons BVMS. MSc, MRCVS Alick is a veterinarian, naturalist and wildlife photographer. Having left government, where he was deputy Chief Veterinary Officer, in 2015, he now spends his time working with several animal welfare, animal ethics and conservation organisations. He is also a 'local patch' birder.
