Moon in Chinese Poetry

The moon, along with fine wine and beautiful women, is a favorite topic for the Chinese poets.

Class1) Invite the parents of the students to come in for a career day and share their work experiences.

2) Discuss how money is used in the community.

3) Discuss the types of services performed in the Chinese culture.

4) Discuss the types of goods unique to the Chinese culture such as food and prepare a recipe in class.

5) Visit a local business that has its origin in China and has a branch located in the United States.

Exceptionalities

1) Discuss the importance of inclusion in the classroom and how everyone can participate and work together.

2) The gifted students can aid those who need extra help.

3) Promote people first language.

4) Counter misconceptions and stereotyping.

5) Have children discuss their shared abilities and similarities.

Disabilities1) Actively introduce ways for disabled and nondisabled children to interact with and learn from each other.

2) Introduce a variety of disabilities through pictures, books, and dolls.

3) Provide supervised times for children to explore adaptive equipment and devices used by people with disabilities.

4) Invite differently abled people with varying disabilities to talk about their work, talents, and home life.

5) Set up an obstacle course so children can

experience the challenges a disabled person

must face such as wearing a blindfold.

Gender1) Celebrate “International Women’s Day” on March 8th by honoring the women who are important in the children’s lives.

2) Encourage children to respect and care for their bodies.

3) Have the children find and cut out magazine pictures of people showing the diversity of looks, dress, activities, and emotions and make two books called “About Girls and Women” and “About Boys and Men”.

4) Create a display of photos of women and men doing the same kinds of tasks at home and at work.

to do when they grow up.

Language

1) Sing a traditional song from the Chinese culture.

2) Learn Chinese for words such as hello and good bye.

3) Read a children’s book from China.

4) Have someone you know who is fluent in Chinese make tapes of favorite books for children to listen to individually.

5). Teach the frequently written Chinese characters.

Race/Ethnicity

1) Place objects from various cultures in the play area where children can use them such as a wok, rice steamer, and rice bowls.

2) Have children share objects meaningful to them and their families.

3) Display different writing systems and label materials in more than one language.

4) Discuss the holidays of different cultures.

5) Teach songs that are sung by an ethnic group.

Sexual Orientation1) Discuss the dating customs in China.

2) Discuss the marriage customs in Chinese culture.

3) Discuss how families are organized.

4) Read books about how babies are born. Be careful to choose books that handle the topic respectfully and accurately and that are developmentally appropriate. In addition, read books about adoption as another way that women and men become parents.
