SEEKING THE LIGHT In today’s readings we find ourselves being drawn more deeply into rela onship with Jesus. We are ge ng to know more about him as we see how he struggles with the news of his cousin John’s arrest. His first response is to withdraw, to leave Nazareth and go to Capernaum. There he is perhaps both consoled and challenged by the words of Isaiah that Ma hew quotes: “the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, / on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death / light has arisen” (Ma hew 4:16). Jesus contemplates his cousin’s death, perhaps his own death, and he seeks the light. Maybe it is these words of Isaiah that move Jesus out of his withdrawal and into ac on. He begins to preach, teach, cure disease and illness, and proclaim the gospel of the kingdom. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. SAINT ANGELA MERICI (c. 1474-1540) January 27 Born in Northern Italy, orphaned in childhood, Angela Merici faced a society in which educa on was largely the privilege of wealthy young men and based primarily in monas c schools. This reality shaped Angela’s insigh ul convic on that society’s disorder was caused by disorder in the home, and a lack of model Chris an mothers the result of neglec ng the educa on of young women. Transform the Chris an family by placing an educated wife and mother at its heart, Angela believed, and the whole world would be renewed in Christ! So she gathered a small group of unmarried women, many of them Franciscan Ter aries (lay affiliates) like herself, and set out to educate poor girls, free of charge, in their homes. She and her band of teachers called themselves companions, pioneering a new form of non-cloistered religious life for women, bearing witness to evangelical simplicity in the midst of the world, not as a formal “order” but as the Company (compagnia) of Saint Ursula. Es Pablo quien destaca en Tito las cualidades de ar fice de la paz, administrador, mediador en los conflictos y de gran capacidad para organizar las comunidades nacientes que enfrentaban el acecho de la falsa doctrina. Tito murió, según las fuentes a los 93 años. Pablo escribe a ambos, en sus cartas pastorales, respecto a las cualidades que ellos, como obispos, deben tener. NATURE The Pastoral Council is a dis nct group. It is consulta ve to the pastor. It is to be a representa ve body of the faithful, whose focus is on the whole community. The Council is to provide a means for uni ng the parish community. It shall have the abil-ity to listen and communicate well with knowledge of God, self, pastor, church and community.

PURPOSE The Council will respond to the call and ques ons of the pastor and offer the best consulta on possible. All Council recommenda ons will be developed through the process of consensus.

PASTORAL COUNCIL MEMBERS MUST:·

• Be registered in the parish • Be 18 years of age or older • Have demonstrated a commitment to the parish community • Be in full communion with the Catholic Church • Be commi ed to spiritual growth • Be willing to commit the necessary me and energy to offer effec ve consulta on to the Pastor

All Saints Third Age Learning Center (TALC) 2020 Spring Semester Registra on on Thursday, January 30, 2020 All Saints Third Age Learning Center (TALC) senior program will hold its 2020 Spring Semester Registra on on Thursday, January 30, 2020, in the church parish hall from 9 am to 1 pm. The Spring Semester begins on Monday, February 10 and late registra on will con nue the first week of the semester, February 10-14th. The Spring Semester concludes on Friday, May 8, 2020. TALC offers a variety of ac vi es, seminars, par es and classes for seniors in the community. A full course hot lunch, cooked on-site, is available at 12 noon Monday through Friday during the semester for the nominal fee of $2.00. TALC will have its first event, a Valen ne Day Party on Friday, February 14 beginning at 10:30 am in the parish hall featuring Big Ed and the Happy Band.
