SAINT JOSEPH, HUSBAND AND CUSTODIAN
This week, I continue sharing the joy of celebrating this year dedicated to Saint Joseph. The Fathers of the Church wrote very beautiful things about the adoptive father of Our Lord Jesus Christ and husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary. For example, Saint Irenaeus (130-202) said that Joseph was persuaded and he was free from doubt, to received Mary as his wife and was prepared to give joyful service in caring for Christ. Saint Ephraim (306-373) said that Saint Joseph’s dignity derives from his close relationship
with the Virgin Mary, of whom he was truly husband, and with Jesus, of whom he was the father in a real and not according to the flesh sense. Yesterday, January 23, we celebrated in the Church the Espousals of the Blessed Virgin Mary with Saint Joseph. From all eternity, God thought of this holy wedding so that his Most Holy Son would have a father who would take care of him and the one who was to be his mother. Saint Joseph had to carry out the most important function that man on earth could do, to protect the most beloved of the Eternal Father (cf. Mt 3:17). Saint Joseph reflects the face of the Eternal Father for Jesus, for the Virgin Mary and for all of us. Jesus learned from Saint Joseph not only a profession, but also knew in his arms the love for his Eternal Father. Saint Joseph showed Jesus the merciful face of the Father. For Jesus to speak of the merciful father (cf. Lk 15:11-32) it is because he experienced the mercy that emanated from the heart of his carpenter father. It is good to know that someone so good intercedes for us in Heaven. It is good to know that not only do we have the Eternal Father who loves us, but we also have our father Saint Joseph who intercedes for us.

SAN JOSÉ, ESPOSO Y CUSTODIO
Esta semana sigo compartiendo la alegría de celebrar este año dedicado a san José. Los Padres de la Iglesia nos dejaron escritas cosas muy bellas sobre el padre adoptivo de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo y esposo de la Santísima Virgen María. Por ejemplo, San Ireneo (130-202) dijo que Persuadido y libre de toda duda, José recibe a María y se dispone a prestar gozoso sus servicios en cuanto se refiere al cuidado de Cristo. San Efrén (306-373) dijo que la dignidad de san José deriva de su trato estrecho con la V irgen María, de quien fue verdaderamente esposo, y con Jesús, de quien fue padre en sentido real y no carnal. Ayer, 23 de enero, celebramos en la Iglesia los esponsales de la Virgen María con San José. Desde toda la eternidad, Dios pensó en esta boda santa para que su Santísimo Hijo tuviera un padre que cuidara de él y de aquella que iba a ser su madre. San José debía desempeñar la función más importante que hombre sobre la tierra pudiera llevar a cabo, proteger lo más amado del Padre Eterno (cf. Mt 3,17). San José refleja el rostro del Padre Eterno para Jesús, para la Virgen María y para todos nosotros. Jesús aprendió de san José no sólo un oficio, sino conoció en sus brazos el amor hacia su Padre Eterno. San José le mostró a Jesús el rostro misericordioso del Padre. Para que Jesús hablara del padre misericordioso (cf. Lc 15, 11-32) es porque él experimentó la misericordia que emanaba del corazón de su padre carpintero. Es bueno saber que alguien tan bueno intercede por nosotros en el cielo. Es bueno saber que no solamente tenemos al Padre Eterno que nos ama, sino que también tenemos a nuestro padre san José que intercede por nosotros.

U.S. Bishop Chairmen for Pro-Life and Doctrine Address Ethical Concerns on the New COVID-19 Vaccines With the roll-out of the COVID vaccine to healthcare workers and first responders in December and now to seniors ages 80 and over, the United States' Conference on Catholic Bishops (USSCB) released a statement about its use by Catholics. The USSCB statement says, "Catholics can take two of the three available COVID-19 vaccines (from Pfizer and Moderna), even though they were developed with a 'remote connection' to 'morally compromised' cell lines. Although Catholics should avoid the AstraZeneca vaccine in preference for one of the other two, it may not be possible for someone to do this without putting society at risk from the coronavirus. If this were to happen, a Catholic would be permitted to receive that vaccine. www.usccb.org
Note: The Indiana Department of Health is offering these designated populations online scheduling of appointments for the vaccine statewide (including Cass Co.) at www.ourshot.in.gov.

LITURGY OF THE HOURS
Want to try something new? Please come join us for the Liturgy of the Hours daily. These are lovely ancient prayers of the Church and a great way to start your day! It will only take 15 minutes out of your day, yet give you blessings all day long. We meet at the following times:

5:00 p.m. - Tuesdays & Thursdays at the ChapelYou will need The Christian Prayer Book (available at the St. Francis Catholic Bookstore), or the Breviary App on your phone to join in. Come let us help you learn and enjoy some of the most beautiful prayers of the Church. If you have any questions, ask Pam Zehner, or any other church member you see at the Morning Prayer.
LOAVES & FISHES All Saints will be hosting the Community Loaves & Fishes on Saturday, Feb. 13th, 2021. Our menu will be: Baked Spaghetti and sides. We are asking the par-ish to participate by donating the following: ANGEL HAIR SPAGHETTI PASTA, SPAGHETTI SAUCE, DICED TOMATOES, PARMESAN CHEESE, PUDDING,APPLE SAUSE & FRUIT CUPS.
