Gathering to Remember: All Saints 2016We remember, not out of some old tradition, but because when we remember all the saints on Earth and in Heaven we have hope. All Saints is simply a day when we remember the amazing promise of Jesus, “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved.”Saved from sin. Saved from death. Given eternal life. Called a child of the living God.On the afternoon of All Saints Sunday, November 6, we will worship in light of this promise (1:30pm North Campus; 4:00pm South Campus).

• It is a special worship experience to specifically remember people dear to you who have died. • It is a time to grieve, but to grieve with hope. • It is a worship service to experience healing. • It is a time to gather as community. • It is a time to be filled with Jesus’ promise.

We’ve all been affected by the death of a loved one. And so this is a time to experience personal prayer, songs of comfort, words of hope and healing in your life.

Wow! What a party! Thank you for all the people who gave of their time and resources to make this year’s HopeFest a phenomenal success! Thank you to the 543 volunteers that set up chairs, tables, and canopies; served cold beverages and delicious food; supervised kids as they bounced on the inflatables and dunked pastors’; organized and set up the bake sale and silent auction; picked up garbage and even stayed late to clean up the mess! Fourteen thousand dollars was raised to support Higher Power Automotive Ministries and the YWCA. Your gifts will go to fix cars for single mothers and help women and children find independence through the good work of the YWCA. Thank you!

Ring For Hope on Saturday, Nov. 19!

Fall colors are at their peak or maybe just past their peak. It’s a reminder that the season will be changing soon, whether we like it or not. I’m just like the next guy and have my favorite time of year, and at times I’d like to hold on to that season. Thankfully, God didn’t give control of the seasons to me or we would all be

in trouble! We have to trust God’s perfect timing. Like in nature, all of us go through different seasons in life and most of us can see God’s leading through those seasons. But, what about the men who look around and can’t see God working in their life? We could say that life without God is like an unsharpened pencil…it has no point! Or we might say it’s time to get connected and experience God for yourself. One of two things can be true when you ask yourself what season you might be in…either you are the guy that needs to get connected or you are the guy that can help connect someone else. Men of Hope, right now is the season of getting connected. Join the movement and bring someone along with you. Together, the men of Hope Lutheran will answer God’s call to be connected to Him.

No Experience Needed! We will be making lefse to sell as a fundraiser for Mission Jamaica Saturday, November 19, 7:00am in the North Campus kitchen. Everyone is invited to participate, training will be provided. Thanksgiving Lefse will be sold in the hallway on Sunday, November 20 and Wednesday, November 23.All Proceeds go towards the Earth Angel Breakfast Program in Kingston, Jamaica, shown in the photo below.

How to Pack a Shoebox for OperationChistmasChildEvery gift-filled shoebox is a powerful tool for evangelism and discipleship – transforming the lives of children and their families around the world through the Good News of Jesus Christ. For more information, see samaritanspurse.org/occ. • Find a Shoebox – If you want to wrap it,

cover the box and lid separately.• Decide whether you will pack a box for a

girl or boy and the age category.• Select a quality “wow” toy such as a doll,

soccer ball with pump, or stuffed animal. Then add other fun toys, hygiene items and school supplies.

• Most importantly, pray for the child who will receive your gift.

• Donate $7 online and receive a tracking label to Follow Your Box and discover the destination of your shoebox gift.

• Take your shoebox gift to either campus starting November 2. Boxes need to be dropped off before noon on November 20.

They Are Among UsNo, we’re not talking about angels or aliens. We’re talking about individuals who have received support through their struggles and now want to support and care for others in their troubled times. The Scriptures describe their service well: “He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us.” 2 Corinthians 1:4 (The Message)If you or someone you know wants to do more, prayerfully consider Stephen Ministry. This is our congregation’s one-to-one caregiving ministry to support those who are struggling and need support from a Christian friend. To learn more, please call Kim Youngquist at 701-235-6629, x221, email [email protected] or go to fargohope.org/hopecare.

In celebration of Thanksgiving, we will be accepting food donations from Wednesday, November 16 to Wednesday, November 23. Food will be distributed to local food pantries, FM Emergency Food Pantry and the YWCA.Simply bring non-perishable food items to Hope Lutheran Church and we will bless the community with your donations.

You are invited to attend this special class Surviving the Holidays on Monday, November 14, 6:30pm at either campus. For more information, call the Church Office (701-235-6629), or email [email protected].

TheHopeLutheranFoundationHasaNorthDakotaQualifiedEndowment

The state of North Dakota has made a strong statement in support of charitable gifting with legislation providing tax credits for gifts made to qualified North Dakota endowments. The tax credits make it possible for individuals and businesses to give more, and through their contributions, have a greater impact on the legacy that we have chosen to build. Businesses Businesses and financial institutions that make gifts to qualified endowments may qualify for a state income tax credit, which amounts to 40 percent of the value of the gift, up to a maximum credit of $10,000 per year. Businesses may carry forward any unused credit for up to three taxable years.IndividualsPlanned gifts by individuals qualify for an income tax credit of 40% for gifts up to a maximum credit of $10,000 per person, $20,000 for a married couple with any excess unused credit to carry forward three years. This tax credit for planned gifts is also unique to North Dakota and gives North Dakotans a remarkable opportunity to make meaningful

gifts to their favorite charities and get significant reduction in their income tax bills. An individual may receive a 40% tax credit for contributions of $5,000 or more (lump sum or aggregate in one year) to a qualified North Dakota endowment. If a donor is in a 28% federal tax bracket, the tax benefit may look like this:Gift amount $5,000 $25,000 $50,000 Federal tax deduction -$1,400 -$7,000 -$14,000 N.D. state income tax credit -$2,000 -$10,000 -$20,000Net cost $1,600 $8,000 $16,000

We thank you for continuing to support the congregational legacy we call The Hope Lutheran Foundation. It is an organization uniquely positioned to help current and future generations better know the love of Christ. As you begin your year-end charitable planning, we request your prayerful consideration of The Hope Lutheran Foundation. If you have any questions or would like to learn more, please contact the Church Office, 701-235-6629.

I picked up the phone and heard the voice of my child. I thought of how I loved the sound. I recognized which child it was from the “Hi Mom!” It was a familiar sound, as I was there when the first word was spoken years ago and yet, there’s always joy to hear that familiar voice. I can’t imagine a time I’d be tired of hearing that voice, day or night. I think that is how our Lord feels when we call on him. He is waiting for us to have a talk with him. He knows our voice and it brings him joy when we take the time to communicate. He heard our first word and every word in science. He never gets tired of hearing from us.Just a little talk with Jesus will make it alright. When you’re at your wits end, when grief has you bowed to the ground, when you’re tired, weary, sad, guilty or angry - in every situation you’re in, having just a little talk with Jesus will make it better. It seems when in those dark places it’s easier to run to a friend, the phone, a computer or the refrigerator. Talk to Jesus instead!“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” Jeremiah 29:12“I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.” Psalm 17:6Dear Jesus, hear my voice. Hear my silent voice when the words I have are too hard to speak out loud. Keep me from ever believing the lie that you are tired of hearing the same thing from me again. Thank you that you listen to every word I say. Amen
