Pastors’ Message: Biblical basis of stewardship by tithing: Both the Old and the New Testaments are full of references to tithing to the Lord. Tithing in the Old Testament: 1) Abraham first gave a tithe offering as a spon-taneous thank you to God. "Then Abram gave the priest king Mel-chizedek a tenth of everything."(Genesis 14:18-20) 2) When Jacob awakes after his dream, he could not contain himself and he made a pledge to return one tenth of everything he has to the Lord.(Genesis 28:22). God demanded tithes from His people through his prophet Malachi: "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and try me in this, says the LORD of hosts: Shall I not open for you the floodgates of heaven, to pour down blessing upon you without measure?" (Malachi 3:10) Confer also Leviticus 27: 30, Num 18:26; Deut 14:24; 2Chr 31:5. In the New Testament there are a number of references to giving God a tenth of the first fruits, even of garden herbs (Mt 23:23, Lk 11:42, Heb 7:1-11). Jesus encouraged the generous sharing of our blessings with others: "Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you." (Luke 6:38). St. Paul exhorts the Christians in Corinth to contribute "what they can afford" to support the minis-try of the Church (1Cor 16:1-4). James advises that every Christian should diligently pray and seek God's wisdom (James 1:5), for how much he or she should give. St. Paul exhorts: "Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or un-der compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver" (2Cor 9:7). The early Christians offered thanks to God by helping others through the Church: "They would sell their property and possessions and divide them among all according to each one's need."(Acts 2:45). So let us resolve on this Stewardship Sunday to make pledges to give faith-fully, lovingly and sacrificially, our time, talents and money to our parish community and become eligible for God’s abundant bless-
Mensaje del Párroco: Hay muchos pasajes en la Biblia que hablan del servicio por medio de las ofrendas. Tanto en el Antiguo como en el Nuevo Testamento hay referencias al diezmo que se debe dar al Señor. En el Antiguo Testamento lo encontramos en Génesis 14:18-20. Ahí dice: “Abraham dio al Sacerdote Rey Melquisedec el diezmo de todo lo que poseía.”Abraham espontáneamente ofreció su diez-mo en agradecimiento al Señor. En Génesis 28:22, al despertar de su sueño, Jacobo no conteniendo su emoción ofrece dar el diezmo de todo lo que tiene cuando se escribe: “devuelve el diez por ciento de todo lo que tengas”. A través del Profeta Malaquías, Dios de-manda el diezmo de su pueblo cuando dice: “Entreguen pues, la décima parte de todo lo que tienen al tesoro del templo, para que haya alimentos en mi casa.. Traten después de probarme, les propo-ne Yave de los Ejércitos, para ver si les abro las compuertas del cielo o si derramo para ustedes la lluvia bendita hasta la última go-ta”. También lo pide en Levítico 27: 30, Números 18:26; Deutero-nomio 14:24; y 2Crónicas 31:5. En el Nuevo Testamento hay muchas referencias en cuanto a darle a Dios el diez por ciento de la primera cosecha,. (Mt 23:23, Lk 11:42, Heb 7:1-11). En Lucas 6:38 Jesús nos pide que comparta-mos las bendiciones con otros: “ Den y se les dará. Recibirán una medida bien llena, apretada y rebosante; porque, con la medida que ustedes midan serán medidos.” San Pablo en 1Corintios 16:1-4 exhorta a los Cristianos en Corintios para que contribuyan a la iglesia con lo que puedan. En Santiago 1:5 se pide que todo Cristiano pida sabiduría y Dios se la dará. San Pablo exhorta en 2Cor 9:7 que “Cada uno de según lo decidido personalmente y no de mala gana o a la fuerza porque Dios ama al que da con alegría.” Los primeros cristianos dieron gracias a Dios ayudando a otros por medio de la iglesia “Venderán sus propiedades, sus posesiones y dividirán entre ellos de acuerdo a sus necesidades”(Hechos 2:45) En este domingo de mayordomia hagamos planes para poder dar con fe y alegría nuestro tiempo, talento y tesoros a nuestra comunidad parroquial y asi poder recibir las abundantes bendiciones de Dios.

It’s that wonderful time of year again! On Saturday,
November 8th, we will be having our 17th Annual International Night Dinner! During this evening, we have an all you can eat menu of: African-American, Chinese, Filipino, Hispanic, Irish, Italian foods and des-sert! In addition to the great food, we have amazing entertainment from different cultures. This is one of the wonderful ways we celebrate our diversity. This is the parish’s largest fund-raiser. If you have never been to one, we hope you will join us this year! We are also asking for your help. We are asking for raffle prizes. Please contact the Parish Office. Dinner tickets for adults are $25 and $12 for children under 12 years of age. Raffle tickets are $25 for a booklet of 6. The first prize will be $2,000!! Site: Saint Elizabeth Church, 459 Somer-set St. (SF) -- Date: Nov. 15 th Time: 10am to 3pm and Nov. 22nd Time: 10am to 12pm. In order to receive a certificate of completion, min-isters must attend BOTH Saturdays and you are only allowed to be certified in ONE ministry. Fees: $20.00 pre-registered and $25.00 for same-day registrants. Note: price does not in-clude lunch. Please bring your own lunch.
