MARY MOTHER OF THE CHURCH Monday, May 21, 2018

On March 3, Pope Francis decreed that the liturgical celebration of

Beata Mariae, Virginis, Ecclesiae Matris be inserted into the General Roman Calendar.

From this year forward, all dioceses & parishes will celebrate the new obligatory Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church

on the Monday following the Pentecost.

This year, the new obligatory Memorial will be celebrated on Monday, May 21st.

Mass will be at St. Jude at 8am

THIS IS NOT A HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, A well formed Catholic is a well informed Catholic. Each year the Archdiocese of St. Louis Provides people with information to lead them to an encounter with the Lord by pro-moting the faith through radio advertisements, billboards & digital advertising, along with support of parishes, schools, & ministries. Your support of the Catholic Communication Campaign will help the church’s efforts to spread the truth over all modern communications platforms, & will assist parishes like Ste. Genevieve to spread the Truth through Mass to the home bound. I ask you to prayerfully consider furthering Christ’s saving message with a donation to the Catholic Communications Cam-paign this weekend. With your generosity we can make the Church’s communication efforts more vibrant as we help others encounter Jesus Christ & His Church. I invite you to visit www.archstl.org/ccc to get involved in spreading the Truth, through giving your email address, donating & following the archdiocese on social media. Sincerely yours in Christ, ~ Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson ~ Archbishop of St. Louis

CHANGES…THEY ARE A HAPPENIN’

You have probably noticed that the interior of All Souls Church is a much brighter environment these days. We have become en“lightened”! Thanks to our Minute Men & our Maintenance Man - & with a big assist from Ameren UE - our lighting in church has been outfitted with LED bulbs. The parish took advantage of Ameren’s incentive program that encourages conversion to LED lighting. The incentive is a rebate of almost 50% of the cost to purchase the bulbs. So at half the cost, All Souls obtained the bulbs & our parishioners installed them in the third week of March. We are de“lighted” with the results!

In addition, the electric bills will be reduced, producing another savings to the parish, & the new lights have a much longer life span than the incandescent bulbs. It’s a win-win in all ways. So, hats off & a huge shout-out to the parish men who got the job done, once again!

On Saturday, June 2, the Overland Block Party will host its traditional parade, & this year for the first time, our parish will have an entry in the line-up along with the Boy Scout float. The parish entry will consist of decorated cars & a pick-up truck with banners announcing our All Souls Annual Parish Festival on June 23rd & 24th. The parade will travel east on Lackland Rd. to north on Woodson Rd., beginning west of Broadmoor & Lackland at 3pm. Come out & show your support for All Souls on June 2nd!

As we are tooting our own horns in the parade, we will also be obtaining a new electronic sign on parish grounds, announcing our weekend Mass times, & various activities that are taking place in our parish. Details will follow, but for now, please know that All Souls Parish is moving forward in ways that will reach & inform more people.

Our parish website is also an excellent resource for knowing more about what goes on around the parish. Please visit: allsoulsparish.org to catch up on pictures & details about parish activity, including activities sponsored by our active St. Anne Sodality & Holy Name Society.

The Ministry Fair sponsored by our Parish Council & organizations was hugely successful & created a springboard for planning future events that can bring our parish community together.

Last Wednesday, Fr. Jim gave afternoon & evening talks on the 10 Commandments - their relevance to us in the 3rd millennium. Over 50 people were in attendance for the two sessions. Thank you Fr. Jim! Future talks will be scheduled on various topics. Always watch the bulletin for details.

Our parish hall continues to be quite popular for booking parties & celebrations by our parishioners. With the addition of another refrigerator, we have attempted to add more convenience to use of the hall. It is an asset to the parish to have this lovely space created during the Capital Campaign conducted in 2004. The rental cost is very reasonable by comparison to other venues in the area. Please consider All Souls Parish Hall for your next family celebration.

We are thankful that spring weather has finally arrived; trees are turning green & flowers are bursting everywhere, especially at All Souls. Again, the parish is blessed to have a small group of talented gardeners who have brought life back to the flower beds around church & rectory; convent soon.

Other parish volunteers have been busy mailing out Festival raffle tickets, ad book solicitations, & planning our Parish Festival. Our parish organizations & ministries are benefitting, as we all are, from an influx of new volunteers. It’s an exciting time in the parish as we anticipate growth & vitality. Lend your prayers & support to keep All Souls Parish the best in the area!

That is all for now, but please call me if you would like to alert me to something you wish to bring to my attention. I would be happy to hear from you!
