ABOUT THE BOOK
Baggini looks at nine key questions, each one representing a branch of philosophy. For example, Epistemology – Is there such a thing as truth and how can we know it? Metaphysics – What is the fundamental nature of the universe? Together, these nine questions lead up to a scintillating final chapter looking at the greatest question of all – what is the meaning of life?
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Julian Baggini is an internationally renowned philosopher. He is the founder of “The Philosophers’ Magazine”, now available internationally in a digital edition. He was recently named in the Observer’s list of top public intellectuals in the UK.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Paul Younger (Glasgow, Scotland) is one of the world’s leading hydrogeologists, with 25 years of experience in the water industry worldwide. From 2001 Paul was a full Professor at Newcastle University in the UK and was Director of the Newcastle Institute for Research on Sustainability, which has water as one of its ten core themes. Currently he occupies the Rankine Chair of Engineering at Glasgow University, where he is re-deploying his skills and experience in the service of low-carbon energy, notably deep geothermal energy, underground coal gasification with carbon capture and storage, and hydropower. Paul is a Director of four companies engaged in the water and energy sectors, and is Chair of the Global Scientific Committee of the Planet Earth Institute.
ABOUT THE BOOK
The world’s population is increasing; but its supply of water is not. Empires have grown and declined due to discovery and exhaustion of their water sources, and now the West is at last catching on to the fact that abundance of water can no longer be taken for granted. For the last fifty years, wars have been fought over oil; for the next fifty, they may be fought over water (in fact, some local wars already have been). Remarkably, this new book is the first to bring together the ecological, geographical, political and scientific aspects of water. Its author, Professor Paul Younger, is one of the UK’s leading experts on water - a substance of which we consume 150 litres of a day, and in its bottled form are willing to pay more for than for petrol.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Pascale Engelmajer lectures in Buddhism at Bristol University. She has studied Buddhism across the world over twenty years, and written many important academic articles on the subject.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Most books about Buddhism just look at the life of Buddha, and how Buddhism is practised in the West today. Dr Engelmajer argues that this is a very limiting approach – she takes a more nuanced approach, looking at how Buddhism has developed differently in different parts of the globe, and how this has resulted in the many different ways in which Buddhism is practised today.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Chris Goodall is a highly regarded writer and campaigner on environmental issues. Educated at Cambridge University and Harvard Business School, he is one of the leading global voices on sustainability. He writes regularly for the Guardian, and on his widely followed blog ‘Carbon Commentary’.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Sustainability argues that building a sustainable society is perhaps the greatest test that the world has ever faced. Today’s generation has borrowed from the future by grabbing prosperity now and imposing the cost on the next generation. Goodall provides the first coherent new explanation of what sustainability actually is.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Mark Vernon founded ‘The School of Life’ in London and is an honorary research fellow at Birkbeck University London. He is a well-known public philosopher who has written a number of successful books. He has PhDs in both theology and philosophy, and trained as a priest before becoming an agnostic.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Love may be all around us, but it often seems more as if our conceptions of love are all over the place. In this intelligent and fascinating new book, released in time for St Valentine’s Day, popular philosopher Mark Vernon argues that we have a tendency to approach questions about love as if there was a key to love that we must unlock. No more clearly is this shown than in our eagerness to learn about the science of love. Mark explores the ideas of neuroscientists and psychologists, who have become the modern-day oracles of love. But, he goes on, science is limited - we can learn more of love from Shakespeare than from Darwin.
