A palette box is a rustic surface. I did sand

it lightly for ease of painting after I had

sealed it but I did not smooth is out com-

pletely. I also did not fi ll the nail holes or

worried if my slats were too far apart. The

roughness of the wood piece adds to the

charm. Be careful when placing the design

elements however, the slat placement may

interfere with some of the design elements

on the pumpkins and lettering.

PAINTING INSTRUCTIONSPrep Your Surface• Seal your surface with wood sealer, sand lightly

and wipe with a tack cloth.• Base coat the entire piece with Lamp Black.• Place the stencil on the front of the box and lightly

stencil with Grey Storm.• Transfer the pattern to the front of the box.• Undercoat the design with Fawn.Paint the Pumpkins• Base the pumpkins with Orange Flame, fl oat

shade with Napa Red, fl oat highlight with Bright Yellow.

• Deepen the highlighted areas by dry brushing Bright Yellow into the highlighted areas. Further deepen the highlight by washing Neon Scorching Yellow over the highlighted areas.

• Using a circular motion dry brush the cheeks with Electric Pink.

• Base the eyes with Snow White and the pupil with Lamp Black. Dip dot the highlight in the pupil with Snow White.

• Base the teeth with Bright Yellow and fl oat shade with Orange Flame.

• Base inside the mouth and noses with Lamp Black.

• Using a SL line the webs with Snow White.

• Leaves, Stems, and Vines• Base the leaves, vines and pumpkin

stems with Olive Green, fl oat shade with Hauser Dark Green and highlight with Neon Scorching Yellow.

• Using a SL line the small green stems coming off of each leaf with Olive Green.

Spiders• Base the spiders with Country

Blue, fl oat shade with Navy Blue and fl oat highlight with Electric Pink.

• Base the diamond on the spider’s back with Napa Red.

• Using a SL base the spider’s legs with Snow White.

• Using a SL line the webbing coming down from the letter T with Snow White.

Trick Lettering• Base the lettering with Electric Pink, fl oat

shade with Napa Red, and fl oat highlight with Snow White.

FINISHING• Outline the detail with a black permanent

marker. (Note the pattern photo for placement.)

• Spray varnish and Enjoy.
