Sgt. Norman Reabold is home from Okinawa for a wonderful 30 days' leave with his parents here. He was 26 months overseas, will be out of the army in January.

How long have Alpine folk thus suffered in di'recting friends to their homes- for many years, but within a few months this will be forever remedied due to the per­sistence of The Sun in working for the allotment of house numbers on all local roads.

Another matter is the placing of a highway sign at Tavern rd. and Hiway 80 informing people that it is Tavern road. We are working on this and hope to accomplish something real soon. Our officials are busy and funds have to be spread thin, but this is a mu st for all who Jive along this pri mar y county road.

One lady called us to relate how a ma n ref used to buy in A l pine because th' highway sign told him it had a population of 410. That must be remedied. We have about 2400 livin g here now .

Car l M. Staten, and wife D aun, have just purchased the Ann Ol son pl ace on Ol ivewood lane, are now making their home here, the sale having been made through Qon Bates. Mr. Staten is a native of Pennsyl ­vania. Mrs. Staten of Il l inois. He is a retired manufacturer's agent for vaporizers, but is going to keep active here by being an associate with Bates in his real ty office.

the 50 x 150 lot adjoining Rorie's on the west, from· the Wiewal s, is working with Bob noane, S.D., to open a gem shop and produce Calif­ornia desert ironwood products as .lamps and unique wood formations for decorative purpoi�s. The store is being remo·deled and readied for the opening next week. Cut stones wil l be made into almost anything and special objects of wood art will be produced.

Al pine's new fire house, the former Al pine Barn which was abandoned as a nite spot. A number of citizens have inspected the place, approved the improvements which include living quarters for the all night and day fireman on duty. As s.oon as the eguipment is moved, the department wil l hol d a housewarming for the publ ic, date to be announced in nex t issue.

Russel I Brown, son of Capt. and Mrs. Horace Gates Brown of Beverly Hill s is on a 15 day furlough from Stockton, his N avy base. H e is visiting the M cCalls, his Al pine address.

Al pine Terrace streets are now finished, ieports Sam Hanson, i n charge of Alpine road station making quite an improvement. The sweetwater river bridge and the 1.3 mil es of new road el iminating curves, has also been blacktopped and the bridge covered with 135 tons of topping.

They raised $1 000. by public donation so a l o ca l committee may seek i11-formation. They plan raising $3000. for law yer' s fees and surveying of the district to bring in Colorado river water .

The Alpine Chamber of Commerce_ has as its chief objective the same idea on water, which, when and if supplied here, will work imm�nse benefits to t he area, now and in future years.
