Greetings from your beloved alma mater, PSG
College of Nursing!
We all are born with a divine fire in us. Our efforts
should be to give wings to this fire and fill the world
with glow of its goodness! (DR.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam)
It gives me an immense pleasure to connect with you
through this Alumni News letter. I am happy that
most of our alumni are quite successful in their
career. We, at PSG believe in creating and
disseminating the knowledge & skill in core areas
through innovative educational programs and
developing a new cadre of global professional by
providing better academic ambience and learning
environment. Over the next several months and
years it will be our goal to strengthen the bond
between the college and our alumni & also to
encourage and foster lifelong alumni participation,
involvement and commitment. We recognize,
acknowledge and embrace our alumni as vital
stakeholders in the advancement of the College.

GREETINGS TO ALL!!!
DEAR ALUMNI,
It’s my great pleasure to introduce this latest issue
of the Alumni Newsletter 2017. We, Alumni
Association always excited to hear from new and
old Alumni about your personal and professional
upliftment.
I hope this newsletter will help our alumni stay
connected with their alma mater, so that we all
can contribute to the growth and achievements of
PSGCON. Our intention to work with alumni
association is for understanding and fulfilling the
interests of our alumni members and ensuring we
remain connected with the alumni at various parts
of world.
I am looking forward to speak and work with each
and every one of you to serve our students and
alumni members of PSG.

ALUMNI ACTIVITIES
Career Guidance Programme:
Career guidance on ‘Nursing as a profession’ was
rendered to 10th and 12th standard students with
biology and pure science group from various
schools. The programme was scheduled in the month
of January. By this career guidance programme 500
students were benefitted. Out of this 150 students
assured to select Nursing as their career.
Scholarship:
Alumni scholarship 2017 were given to Ms.
Bhuvaneshwari.B (2013 Batch), Ms.Kanakalakshmi
(2014 Batch), Ms. Monisha and Ms. Poornima shri
(2015 Batch) of Rs.5000 each. Our alumni
Mr.Saravanan.G M.Sc (N) 2008 batch had sponsored
Rs.10, 000 (Ten Thousand Rupees) for the alumni
scholarship which was equally divided and given to
Ms.Ammu (2013 batch) and Ms.Gayathri (2012
batch).
Soft Skill Training:
PSG College of Nursing had conducted Soft
Skill Training workshop on 21st & 22nd of July 2017.
Eighty students of 2013 batch have participated and
benefited. Two trainers Mrs.Geetha and
Miss.Deepika from Silver Tongue, a reputed

institution in Coimbatore has conducted the sessions
on various topics which included Personal & social
etiquette, Resume building, Interview skills,
Assertiveness, Time management and Leadership.
Students were divided into two different groups and
proceeding with the interesting discussion and
lectures.
Alumni Reunion:
Alumni Reunion 2017 was conducted on 17th
November 2017 with 75 alumni members from 2012
batch, 2013 batch and alumni faculty. The alumni
reunion Chief guest Dr.Jaeny Kemp, Principal,
GKNM Institute of Nursing delivered her
inspirational speech on “Work and Life Balance”.
The Alumni and Faculty was benefited and
understood on ways that should be followed to keep
our life and work balance as manager, administrator,
leader and as an individual. Business session: The
discussion on alumni byelaws and Alumni Election
2017 for the post of President, Vice President,
Secretary, Treasurer and Assistant Secretary was
held after the Alumni Reunion.

Best Sports Women award sponsored by
Alumni Association.
❖ The Venkateshwara Research Award, which
was sponsored by our alumni Mr.Senthil
Kumar in remembrance of his father, was

❖ Mrs.Priya Selvi B of 2014 Batch M.sc
(Nursing) received The Server award
sponsored by Mrs. Sandy Mariam Varghese.

deserving B.Sc Nursing students.

appreciated by Dean of University of Bahrain
who actively participated in preparing SER
report on 22. 01.2018.

2016 Nightingale award from Baylor Scott
and White Medical Centre.
➢ Mrs.Muthulakshmi.A of 1994 Batch received
recognition and appreciation for clinical
proficiency and patient compassion by
Emerson Hospital, Concord.

Lamp Lighting Ceremony:
I year B.Sc Nursing, 2017 batch students had their
24th Lamp Lighting Ceremony on 23rd December
2017 at PSGIMSR Auditorium. Dr.Latha
Venkatesan, Principal, Apollo College of Nursing,
Chennai was the Chief Guest and Dr Paavai, HOD
of Paediatric Surgery, PSG Hospitals was the Guest
of Honor. During the ceremony, Chief Guest
Dr.Latha Venkatesan, Dr.Jayasudha.A Principal,
Prof Nirmala.M, HOD, Fundamental of Nursing
Department and Dr .Anuradha M.D, Nursing Supdt,
passed on the lights to the novice students.
International Student Exchange Programme
The Indian Experience 2018:
“Indian Experience” the faculty and students from
Switzerland had in house training programme with
the specific theme at PSG College of Nursing,
every year for one month during January. The
theme of 2018 is “Golden Moments to bridge the
gap: Fostering our Future Nurses with Team
Dynamics or Quality Health Care Delivery”. The
Programme had various sessions, visits and
Schedule based on theme from 8th to 31st January
2018. Eighteen students and four faculties of La
source and Hesav University, Switzerland
participated and benefitted through this programme.
Summer University 2017, Lausanne,
Switzerland:
‘Summer University 2017’ was scheduled from 17th
June to 15th July 2017 for 4 weeks. The theme was
‘Nursing Challenges Facing Vulnerability and
Introduction to Disaster Nursing’. A group of 10
students participated along with the faculty
Prof.Nirmala.M. During this programme the other
country students from Chile, China, Hong – Kong,
South Korea, Singapore, USA and Switzerland were
also participated.
Graduation Ceremony:
The 19th Graduation Ceremony was held for
2014 batch of M..Sc Nursing students and 2012
batch of B.Sc(N) students on 17th November 2017
between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Dr.G.Malarvizhi, Vice-
Principal welcomed the gathering. Dr.A.Jayasudha,
Principal gave charge to the graduates. Dr.Ani
Grace Kalaimathi, Registrar, The Tamilnadu Nurses
and Midwives Council, Chennai had been the Chief
Guest of the day. She emphasized that nurses are the
ambassadors of the health care industry.
Prof.Dr.P.Radhakrishnan, Director, PSG Institute of
Advanced Studies presided over the function.
Out of 85 graduates, 80 of them and 3 post
graduates received their convocation certificates.
The class toppers of UG and PG were awarded with
medals. Among the prestigious awards for
undergraduate students, the best academic and best
clinical nurse award was presented to Mr.Prabu G
and Ms.Krishnapriya P bagged the best out going
student award with the Gold medal. The best SNA
award was received by Mr.Prabu G and the best
NSS award was received by Ms.Deepa R.L., and
Ms.Banupriya S received the best Sports Woman
and YRC Award.
Among the post graduate students, best academic
and best clinical award was given to Mrs.Priya
Selvi B and best research award was given to
Mrs.Prameela A of 2014.
YRC Activities:-
The PSG College of Nursing established its
YRC Local Unit in the academic year of 2004-
2005.The unit has a total membership of 246
students. YRC celebrated World AIDS Day, World
Diabetic Day, World Mental Health Day, and
Breast feeding sustaining together, Coimbatore
peace day festival, World Population Day,
International Yoga Day, International Women’s
Day and Leprosy Eradication Day by conducting
various events.
NSS Activities:-
The NSS Unit of PSG College of Nursing
was started in the year 2000 with an aim to
“inculcate the social welfare thoughts in the
students and to provide service to the society
without any prejudice. PSG Traffic Forum was
inaugurated on 10.10.2017 by the Deputy
Commissioner of Police-Traffic Coimbatore City.
NSS Volunteers of all PSG Institutions are formed to
control busy traffic and to minimize accidents in
Coimbatore. NSS Special Camp for the year 2017-
2018 was successfully completed from 13.11.17 to
18.11.17 in Vadambacherry, Coimbatore. Fifty
NSS volunteers from B.Sc n(N) II & III year have
actively participated in the camp. NSS untirely
works on many activities like Rally on Organ
Donation which was flagged off by
Mr.Palaniswamy, Physical Director, PSG IMSR on
27th November 2017 and PSG Traffic Forum,
Special Outreach Programme, Tree plantation and
Leprosy Eradication Day.
The NSS Unit of PSG College of Nursing
organized Road Safety Awareness Rally on
18.01.18.Mr.Sujit Kumar IPS, Deputy
Commissioner of Police (Traffic), and Coimbatore
city flagged off the rally. The rally covered whole of
Sowripalayam regions in Coimbatore. Nearly 283
NSS Volunteers (B.Sc Nursing I, II & III Year
students) of PSG College of Nursing participated in
the rally. The NSS Volunteers were holding
placards stressing the importance of road safety and
prevention of road traffic accidents.
SNA Activities:-
The SNA unit of PSG College of Nursing
strives hard for the upliftment of the students
through professional, educational, extracurricular
activities. The SNA President Dr. A Jayasudha
conducted executive board meeting once in two
months to plan and discuss about the activities.
The Students of SNA organized and participated
in many events and bagged prizes such as Inter
Nursing College Sports Meet, ‘National Dietetics
Day’, Minerva Quiz Competition, International
Nurses Day, SNA Biennial Conference, Diwali,
Christmas and Pongal Celebrations.
Zenith 2017:
PSG College of Nursing organized
ZENITH 2017 – South Zone Intercollegiate
Nursing Quiz Competition an event in the Nursing
calendar which is awaited by nursing students in
South India. Subjects chosen this year were
Obstetrics and gynecology Nursing and community
Health Nursing with a good measure of
contribution from General Knowledge. The quiz
was conducted in different rounds with questions
on Terminologies, Abbreviations, Situational
analysis, Visual clips and Drugs. This year the first
prize was won by College of Nursing, Christian
Medical College, and Vellore securing the rolling
trophy. Second and Third prize was won by PSG
College of Nursing.
Campus Placement Cell:
The Placement Cell of PSG College of Nursing was
established in 2006. It provides best career
opportunities for Final year nursing students. Well
established recruiting agencies visit the college
every year during June /July.
