The School of Medicine and Association of Yale Alumni in Medicine invites you and your spouses, partners, families and guests back to campus this spring to celebrate your reunion!

Take advantage of your time on campus to explore all that is Yale. Come to hear lectures, come to engage in stimulating conversations, come to experience once again the camaraderie of your classmates.

Guided Walking Tour of the Medical

School Campus and Student Q&A session

Let Director of Admissions Richard Silverman and current medical students be your guides in a tour of the Medical School, including information about recent developments at the School and stops in Smilow Cancer Hospital, The Anlyan Center, and the anatomy laboratory. The tour will conclude with a 30-minute Q&A session, giving you a chance to learn more about student life at YSM.

Tour of the Yale Center for

Medical Simulation

Dr. Leigh Evans directed the design and installation of the state-of-the art Yale Center for Medical Simulation (YCMS), which opened in January. The Center was established by the Department of Emergency Medicine for teaching and research in medical simulation. As the Director of the Center, Dr. Evans has developed a simulation curriculum for medical students and residents utilizing the technology and science of simulation education. Her research interests focus on the transfer of simulation skills to the clinical setting and simulation training for the development of teamwork and leadership skills. Dr. Evans’ co-facilitators for this on-location event are: Dr. Kelly Dodge, Director of Resident Simulation; Dr. James Bonz, Director of Procedural Simulation and Dr. Ti≠any Moadel, Simulation Fellow. Limited capacity, advance reservations required. The center is walking distance on Howard Avenue, and limited shuttle service will be o≠ered from 333 Cedar Street also.

The Modern Medical Library:

“It’s all on the Internet! Isn’t it?”

Innovation and technology are transforming many industries, and libraries have not been immune to radical change. In this context some wonder about the relevance of libraries today. Join a panel of Cushing/Whitney Medical Librarians as they talk about how their roles have changed to meet

the needs of the medical community. Hear about their diverse roles as research partners, and the fascinating ways they support the work of the Medical Center’s students, clinicians, scientists and educators.

Ancient Art, Modern Science: 200 Years of

Medicine at Yale Documentary

Enjoy a special showing of the YSM Bicentennial documentary chronicling the rise of the School of Medicine from its origins as the Medical Institution of Yale College in 1810 to its current incarnation as one of the world’s major centers for biomedical research; clinical care; and the education of physicians, scientists, physician associates, and public health professionals.

HAVEN Free Clinic: Shaping Leaders in

Primary Care

Founded in 2005, the HAVEN Free Clinic is a sustainable student-run primary care clinic partnered with Fair Haven Community Health Center (FHCHC) and Yale University. Every Saturday, student and

faculty volunteers from Yale’s medical, nursing, physician associate, public health, and undergraduate programs provide care to uninsured patients in Fair Haven. Aedan Co≠ey YSPH ’16 and Marina Di Bartolo YSM ’15, executive co-directors, will o≠er a virtual tour of how HAVEN fits into the landscape of healthcare providers in New Haven and in the country, and the e≠ect that organizations such as HAVEN have on shaping leaders in primary care.

Samuel D. Kushlan M.D. ’35 Society

Medallion Presentation

The Samuel D. Kushlan MD ’35 Society memorializes our loyal longtime School of Medicine alumnus, who passed away in 2010 at the age of 98, having served as a mentor and role model for generations of physicians in training at Yale. This weekend, Dean Robert Alpern will welcome the 50th reunion Class of 1965

into the Kushlan Society, presenting each member with a Kushlan medallion. All alumni and guests are welcome to attend.

Buffet Dinner

Formally established in 2014, the Center for Biomedical and Interventional Technology (CBIT) aims to integrate engineering, medicine and entrepreneurship, with a focus on engagement with undergraduate, graduate, business and medical students, residents, postdocs, faculty, and sta≠ across the entire Yale campus. Come hear CBIT co-founder and Chair of Biomedical Engineering W. Mark Saltzman, PhD describe how CBIT is helping build cross-campus

networks to identify unmet clinical needs, form and support collaborative teams, and fund projects with partnerships with investors and industry.

Do you have an unmet clinical need you think CBIT might help with? Interested in being involved in CBIT? Following Dr. Saltzman’s presentation, interested alumni are invited to join CBIT leaders to share ideas or discuss your own interest in involvement with CBIT’s programs and projects. based Wellness Programs for Mothers

and Children

The New Haven Mental Health Outreach for Mothers (MOMS) Partnership is a coalition lead

by mothers, community-based providers, local and state government, national partners and academic institutions committed to the vision and mission of maternal and child wellbeing. Megan V. Smith, MPH,

DrPH, assistant professor of Psychiatry, Child Study and Public Health, and principal investigator for the MOMS Partnership, will share the many facets

of the partnership, built o≠ the foundation that when mothers are healthy, children are healthy and communities are healthy too.

Treasures of the Medical Library

Enjoy a guided tour through the current exhibits at the Library: “Preserving Form, Preserving Content: Caring for Collections at the Medical Library” explores preservation e≠orts to care for the Medical Library’s important and varied collections, keeping them accessible for future generations of researchers. “Baldwin’s Patent Medicines,” a series of letterpress posters from the late 19th century, advertises the Baldwin Patent Medicine Company’s specific tonics and pills for an astonishing range of complaints. “100 Years of Public Health at Yale:” One of the oldest accredited schools of public health in this country, the school advances public health through research, education and practice. This exhibit examines the rise of public health at Yale through present day. And finally, tucked downstairs in the library is the Cushing Center: visit this one-of-a-kind center including the unique Brain Tumor Registry and the drawings, photographs and rare book collection of Dr. Harvey Cushing. This tour will be repeated at 3:00 pm.

Complimentary shuttle service will be available during the weekend, servicing the Reunion hotels, Sterling Hall of Medicine (333 Cedar Street), Harkness Hall (367 Cedar Street) and the Saturday night dinners at the downtown New Haven restaurant locations.

Most reunion events are casual. Enjoying a walk around campus calls for comfortable shoes. For the Saturday Class Dinner, many classes recommend jacket and tie for men and comparable attire for women.

weather

Temperatures for late May in New Haven have been as low as 50 degrees F and as high as 90 degrees F. In addition, rain is always a possibility. We advise you to plan for variable weather and bring an umbrella.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of Yale School of Medicine and The O∞ce of Development & Alumni A≠airs. Yale School of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

However, we need your help to identify who, where, and what are in some of our photographs! We hope you can help the Library as we work to preserve Yale’s history.
