AMS Cabling Meeting @ CERN Prevessin 893-1D020
December 6, 2006
Agenda1) Brief overview
-Show Plumbing and VC ring-mounted-hardware-AMS overall-Common cables (Mike & Alexei)-Subsystem / detector cables
2) Mock-up tour.(To understand what the starting point for Cad modeling is)
3) Discussion on how best to organize the activity:a) Central CAD designer? Who is willing to work @ CERN for the length of time required to do the jobb) under what conditions?
c) How best to organize the detector cabling with detector CAD designers remote from CERN.
Electronics subsystem
Cabling
(integration team +M.Capell+A.Lebedev A.Roishkov)
Lower USS Cabling
(F.Cadoux,
C.Guandalini)
TRD / Upper-TOF cabling
(Isatec, C.Guandalini)Zenith Radiator Plumbing
(? CGS?)
Tracker Cooling Plumbing
(A.Alvino, E.Perrin, C.Gargiulo)
NASA / Shuttle / ISS Cabling
(Jacobs: J.Kastelic)
Tracker Cabling
(E.Perrin, A.Alvino, D.Rapin, CERN integration)
ACC (Isatec)
UGBS (R.Becker)
Dallas sensors (DTS) on ECAL back panels

Intermediatebracket
BP4R routing (… BP5R is about the same routing)
DTS routing

ECAL cabling to the Crates ECAL cabling to the Crates
ECrate(DAQ,EDR…)
HV cables to HVBrickLUSSII

ECAL
ECAL Integration on LUSSII
DTS cables (from ECAL brackets to Crates)
DAQ Cables
Still to be assembled on ECAL
EIB Cabling + Radiator fixation (36 Boards / 20 Mechanical supports)EIB Cabling + Radiator fixation (36 Boards / 20 Mechanical supports)
EIB frame
“heaters” cabling + Terminal Bock
DAQ cables
HV cables
Trigger cable support
DAQ cable support
EIB frames
As you can see, except for F. Cadoux’s lower USS model Most of the cabling models are under developed or missing!..
How do we resolve Cabling?
Tasks:
Cable routing Mockup
Cable routing CAD
Bracket design, calculation, manufacture
3) Discussion on how best to organize the activity:
a) Central CAD designer? Who is willing to work @ CERN for the length of time required to do the job
b) Under what conditions? (only work share etc, not contractual)
c) How best to organize the detector cabling with detector CAD designers remote from CERN.
Tasks:
Critical Cables: Installation Priority??!
1) CAN Bus
2) AMS Wire 1
3) PDS 2
4) XPD cabling
5) Sub-detectors (need to prioritize)
n) GTSN (Dallas)
Critical Brackets:
1) vertical tubes on VC
2) Front panels
3) Balconies (info from Mockup?)
Possible Solutions (pending agreement internal to each person’s institute / Co.)
a) Franck 4 months @ CERN from February, need full funding for this time
-need to guarantee maintenance time -% work time designated to AMS cabling for follow-up. To what %age (min 1-2 days a week supported by LAPP)
a) Antonella: Contract with CGS 4 months, from Feb
-need to guarantee maintenance time -% work time designated to AMS cabling for follow-up. To what %age
Uses UG compatible with NASA model. Will need training period for new NX4 version and harnessing module.
c) Serena Starting Now! Supported by INFN Perugia (?!) –learning CAD and harness program, Follow-up possible? To what %age? (will have to attend TVT-test starting end February-July but can support to a degree)
d) Combined: Serena starts immediately with Franck joining February. Follow up? Who? (Franck can support 1-2days/week) What %age. (Serena? )
Need Big! Computer + CAD licenses
Office in 892 RBxx double office for 4 engineers. Available!
Input Needed:
List of cables (Xcel table)
Front panel drawings – labeled. Or clarification!.. Ask Mike.. Or CGS web-site
Updated detector models (and simplifying when necessary)
Cables routed on mockup & photos (when needed)
Fixation points (USS, crates, links, detectors, etc.)
Cable properties Cross section (sleeves, MLI?), weight, bending radius
Sticky tab properties (load rating)
Plumbing routing (magnet, TTCS, UGBS, Zenith radiator,)
(MLI)
CAD Licenses
Electronics Boxes installed in this step: ERPD0, ERPD1
All Electronics and structural links have now been installed forming a self supporting “Gemini” structureThe Crate Jigs are now ready to be replaced with the flight radiator
