Motivation:
Vibration problems - Vortex Induced Vibration (VIVs), Flow induced
Vibrations (FIVs), Slugging → Reduced fatigue life
Assessment and mitigation is expensive, lost revenues
Objective:
Improve Cost management and capital efficiency for our customers
Minimize spend on special analysis + Minimize spend on mitigation
+ Minimize lost revenues + Improve system availability + Improve
operational flexibility
Improve reliability of subsea jumpers/pipelines to minimize OpEx
Reduce spend on inspection, maintenance and repair
Develop a simple Passive Vibration suppression system
Can be added to existing infrastructure or new infrastructure

TMD vs. PTMD
5
PTMD – Transfers host structure energy via TMD element and dissipates
through impact on viscoelastic material

Through joint collaboration between
OneSubsea, UH and NASA,
underwater testing was performed at
NASA’s Neutral Buoyancy Lab (NBL)
Test was to study the effectiveness of
PTMD in actual high damping
environment

One solution for all vibration problems – FIV, VIV or slugging
The PTMD can target a broad frequency bandwidth for vibrations
(multiple modes of vibrations of jumper and subsea pipelines)
Can be mounted on new or existing infrastructure
Reduces fatigue damage to jumpers and pipelines
Increases life span with minimal spend on inspection, maintenance and
repair
