Overview of College Credit Plus (CCP)

• CCP is an opportunity for qualified students in grades 7-12 to take college classes before graduation.

• CCP Covers all dual credit programs including:

on campus, at the high school and on-line

• All public colleges must participate, private colleges can choose to participate.

Options on a College Campus

Students can choose any course that applies toward a degree or workforce certification at a public (or participating private) college.

Enrollment in courses is not guaranteed.

Maximum Credit Hours

Formula to determine eligible college hours:

• Take student’s # of high school only Carnegie units and multiply by 3.

• Subtract that answer from 30.

• This will give you the number of hours for which student may earn in that academic year.

CCP limits students to 30 credit hours MAX per academic year

What about Summer Term?

CCP applies only during the academic year

Enrolling in summer coursework = Self-pay

Cost There is no additional cost to you to participate in

CCP courses offered at a public college/university.

There may be additional fees to participate in CCP courses offered by a private institution.

Textbooks are included. student may be required to return at the end of the

Optional fees not covered under CCP including: Transportation, parking, gym membership

Successful completion of the course results in earned credit on both your high school AND college transcript.

Your CCP course grade will be reflected on both transcripts.

CCP courses carry 1.25 weighted credit

3 semester hours or more = 1 high school credit

Points to consider Is this a right fit for me based on my strengths and

goals? College courses may take more time and you’re building

college transcript.

Courses may transfer differently to other institutions. Check out transferology.com to explore the portability of

credits.

College courses follow the institution’s guidelines (dates in session, withdraw procedures).

There is a financial obligation to reimburse the district if you fail or do not complete a course.

CC+, AP, IB, Honors—What’s Best?

• Selective admissions colleges look for students who have the most rigorous courses

• Both the subject matter and the level of rigor are considered

• Students should take math all four years of high school• Natural Sciences and Foreign Language courses are also

highly rigorous• Don’t skip a college prep course for a non-college prep college

course

Scheduling ClassesOSU Academy

• Class selection occurs at Orientation in late summer

• Students schedule one semester at a time

• Admission doesn’t guarantee enrollment in a specific course

• It may not be offered at a time when you are available• It may not have seats available• It may have specific pre-requisites such as prior courses or

enrollment in a specific degree program.

College Credit Plus

Three different ways to participate:

• OPTION A: Students can take courses at the high school with high school teachers who are credentialed at the college level. (Course availability determined by high school leadership.)

• OPTION B: Students can take courses at the high school taught by COTC faculty. (Course availability determined by high school leadership.)

• OPTION C: Students can take courses taught by COTC faculty at any one of the four campuses.

Scheduling• Otterbein courses taught at the high school will be scheduled through the high school. There will be a mandatory orientation/ advising session in August.

• Course taught on our campus will be scheduled at an on campus Orientation in August.

What Does it Cost?

• Students pay $20/credit hour ‐ $80 per course.• The District covers the cost of text books.• Students driving to campus will purchase a parking permit.

What if I want to take courses in the summer?

• College Credit Plus isn’t available for summer.

• Students may enroll in the Otterbein Collegiate Institute and earn college credit only. The cost is $100/credit hour, or $400 per course and the student must buy or rent the textbooks.

What if I only want college credit, but not dual enrollment?

• Students may choose to enroll in the Otterbein Collegiate Institute and earn college credit only. The cost is $100/credit hour or $400 per course and the student must purchase their own text books, however the credit (and gpa) are not reflected on yourHigh School transcript.
