Page 2: Analysing

This magazine cover has used bold colours and fonts on its cover it uses 1 main large image and then a collection of smaller images round the outside of It. And the large logo helps brand awareness.

I would say that the main cover is very effective as the bold/bright colours and font immediately attract attention and the use of a well known singer on the cover makes it more appealing as well.

I don’t think it goes against the conventions of a music mag as it uses the typical bold font , colours and clothing it also has a large logo like many other music magazines to make it memorable.

The audience of this magazine is quite easy to tell because of its artists and fashion Colum it is advertising it is more aimed at girls compared to boys because of the pink coloured font and artists/bands like One Direction or Justin Bieber.

The magazine makes’ it very easy to tell what type of music genre it is because of the

we pop logo but also the artist it advertises like Rihanna, JLS, or GaGa It helps out my research be giving me a slight incite on what content to include in my

own magazine.

Page 3: Analysing

The conventions used in this contents page is obviously a large image, it uses bright large numbers to make it clear what page it is and uses simple text on what is on that page it has 2 titles one on the top of the page but also a vertical one going up the side of the page.

I would say that this contents page is useful to an existent as it has gaps between page numbers for example it goes from 34- page 47. but for the pages it has listed it has said clearly what is on it.(but I might be missing a page)

It slightly challenges conventions as on a typical magazine it try's to make it bright colourful and bold but this contents page is simple and elegant but it still does convention things like using large titles and pictures of famous artists.

This content page makes it slightly hard to tell its target audience but as it uses a well known artist ; Taylor Swift it makes it easy to tell that the magazine writes around/about the genre/sub-genre’s of Pop.

It fits what type of music genre it is writing about because of the interviews it does and the images it uses.

This contents page has helped give me an idea on how to layout my contents page.

Page 4: Analysing

The conventions used in this double page spread is dark colours ; is conventional for this type of magazine. It also uses simple text font when writing usefull information like other magazines.

Even though half of this DPS is a image it has used a small font size so it still has lots of information but the image attract attention which make people read the articles so it makes it quite effective.

I would say it challenges normal conventions as on normal DPS’s the image usually takes up ¼ of the page but this DPSs’ image takes up ½ of the page it also follows conventional magazine technique by using a large bold title and coloured sub titles.

This double page spread clearly shows its target audience because of the use of red and black coloured text it means its most likely audience are people who like Gothic/Rock music.

This DPS has shown me it is possible to use a large image to attract attention to a page and then use a smaller font to fit the same amount of information on.

Page 5: Analysing

the conventions used in this magazine cover is the use of bold/bright fonts and the usage of a large image of a famous artist, it is also giving away a free cd like most music magazines do.

The colours used are effective as the bright yellow on the black makes the writing standout very well and again the usage of a well known artist on the cover makes it more attractive as the audience know that they are a good magazine if they write about famous artist’s.

This magazine only goes against one convention which is the use of bright clothing and Jay-Z is wearing black but other than this it follows all the typical conventions like giveaways, colourful font large logo/ title

The target audience if this magazine is very easy to determine as the logo is Hip-hop and Jay-Z is a rapper so these two show there target audience is people who like rap and the age group is around 13-21.

This helps my research by showing me how to use contrasting colours and were to advertise free items.

Page 6: Analysing

The conventions used in this contents page are: Bright/bold colours, large/small images of well known artists and a large title.

The use of the black and pink numbers works well but all of the colours on the page make it look childish, but it is still effective as it clearly tell the reader where to find what content. And it puts the ‘best’ story's on the contents page to make people more willing to read it.

This magazine challenges no conventions what so ever as it uses typical images and colours etc..

Their target audience seem to be teenage girls aged from between 12-15 as it uses bright ‘girly’ colours and uses artist that teen girls like i.e. Justin Bieber, the wanted and it also uses the Saturday's; a girl band that some girls may idolise.

I would say that this magazine represents pop music well to an extent but it is too childish for this music genre it is easy to tell it is a pop magazine as it uses pop bands/singer in images and it logo has the word pop in it so it is obvious.

This magazine has shown me not to use colours aimed at one sex and not to use large amounts of bright colours as it will make my magazine look childish.

Page 7: Analysing

The conventions used in this double page spread are: Bold fonts, large images and coloured sub titles and it uses lots of quotes.

I would say this is a very effective double page spread because the two large images of Zaiyn and Harry immediately attracts the readers attention the bold tile also does this, the DPS also has lots of information on it which makes it effective as it is informing the reader on what they want to know.

The magazine challenges a few conventions as it doesn't use bold colours which makes the DPS look more elegant it also doesn't use a large amount of colours which adds to this effect and magazines often have lots of information cluttered together but this DPS only writes about two things which I thing makes it look more ‘attractive’ to the reader.

The colours used make it seem their target audience is aimed at teenage boys but it is obviously aimed at teen girls because it is a double page spread on one direction; a well known boy band. who many girls idolise.

It is again very easy to tell what genre of music this magazine writes about as one direction are a English-Irish pop ban which shows that the magazine writes about pop music

This double page spread has shown me that by making my double page spread simple it can make it look better or more elegant. And also the use of large images attracts the attention of the reader compared to smaller ones.

Page 8: Analysing

The conventions used in this front cover are: lots of information cluttered around the page, the advertisement of free posters, a large image of a well known artist on the cover, bright colours, large masthead and it also puts a quote on the cover near the centre like other magazines do.

This cover is effective because the black and purple colours work well together and make the magazine look more attractive and the large image attracts attention because of the bright clothing and the famous artist. As its advertising posters with other artists on it may attract more people to the magazine just because they want the posters.

I cannot spot any conventions that have been challenged The target audience of this magazine is both teenage boys and girls as it uses teenaged artist

on the cover and for girls it has a fashion section and one direction posters and for the boys it has attractive female artist as well.

The masthead clearly shows what genre of music the magazine writes about as it is called TOP of the POPS but it is also clear that it is a pop magazine as it uses images of a number of different pop artist like Cher Lloyd, Taylor swift, Jessie j and one direction

This magazine cover has shown me how to use and where to place important quotes but also where to advertise different things.

Page 9: Analysing

The conventions used in this contents page is a large bright coloured masthead it has also used large coloured numbers to make them stand out and has used a image of a well known artist.

This contents page is effective, I say this because it uses subtitles to further help people locate what they want to read and their is a clear description on what is on the page and the large numbers make it clear what page the information is on.

This contents page has used a image of its front cover on its contents page and used arrows to show what page the content from the cover is on and I haven't seen any other magazine do this.

The use of bright pink, purple and red lead to me to believe that this magazines target audience is girls and the images of Bieber and a JLS member and little hearts seem to be targeted to girls aged 11-16

This magazine represents pop well as the page is filled with content which gives it the impression of it being active or electric although the use of girly colours and childish fonts doesn’t fit the pop genre.

This contents page has helped my research by giving me an idea of where to put image on the page but also an idea of how to design the masthead

Page 10: Analysing

The conventions used is this double page spread are: the use of bright and bold colours, the way the text boxes have been laid out, the use of a large image of a famous singer, a quote from Taylor and a large masthead.

This a very effective double page spread because it has included a lot of information on Taylor swift which is what the reader wants and the large image attract attention from the reader and so does the use of white and pink.

This magazine places images where text would usually be I think it does this to make the reader look at the image as they are reading.

The target audience of this magazine is teenage girls aged 12-16 as it uses a female artist images of hearts and pink text boxes.

It is easy to tell the genre of music but only if you know the artist as Taylor is a pop artist. This double page spread has shown me if I want to attract attention to a small image I

can place it over where text usually would be.

Page 11: Analysing

The conventions used in this cover is the cluttered page, quote’s in circles, a image of a pop artist use of bold font and bright colours and a large masthead at the top of the page.

This cover would be effective at attracting people to read it as the bright colours make it eye catching and it has lots of story's that many people would like to read for example lots of girls might buy it for the article about ‘who is fitter Justin or harry’

Usually text is only one colour but this cover has used 3 different coloured fonts in one sentence .

This would appeal to girls as it has a article about which boy is fitter and what to wear it is easy to tell the target audience is girls as at the very top of the page it says ‘is she stealing your crush’ it doesn't say they or he so it is obviously aimed at girls.

It fits pop music quite good as the masthead is glamorous which many people say pop is and it has a number of different pop stars on the cover like Jessie J, Lady GaGa or Harry Styles

This cover has shown me I can use more than one font when writing a sentence.

Page 12: Analysing

The conventions used in this contents page are bright colours and bold fonts with the use of small and large images.

This is an effective contents page because it has coloured sub titles and page number so it is very easy to locate what story you want to read or what pages have posters.

The conventions that this contents page has challenged are its included an introduction to tell the reader when and how the magazine was made and this is the only magazine so far that I have seen do this.

This magazine has targeted teen girls as its audience I can tell this because it has a fashion section and uses girly colours like pink, purple and florescent red.

This contents page makes it hard to tell what music genre it wrights about because it doesn’t use any images of pop artists and it also doesn’t use any storys that specificly represent a music genre.

This contents page has shown me that I must use relevant images and storys to attract my target audience.

Page 13: Analysing

The conventions this double page spread has used are Bright & Bold colour, a large image of an artist it has also used conventional text boxes and font.

This is a very effective double page spread because the large image an large brightly coloured letter immediately attracts the attention of the consumer, it immediately lets you know who the DPS is about but it also gives a lot of detailed information which is what the reader wants.

It challenges some conventions like the large amount of text because usually there is only a decent amount if text but this DPS has lots of text in a small font. It has also used a bright red letter the size of the page and no other magazine does this.

This magazine hasn’t targeted a gender for its audience I can tell this because all the colours it has used are neutral.

Because the DPS uses a large image of Jay-Z it is easy to tell the music genre is Rap/Dance pop

This DPS has shown me how to use the text to attract reader to the page.

Page 14: Analysing

The conventions used in this magazine cover is a large image of a artist, the masthead is at the top of the page the text is located around the edge of the cover like on other magazines it also uses coloured fonts and bold text and a text from a well known artist.

This cover isn't very effective at attracting the reader as it uses a dull colour for the background but the cover is effective at informing the reader of what is in the magazine and what it is about.

This has challenged the normal convention to have bright coloured clothing and a background, the image placement is also unusual as it obscures the masthead.

I think the target audience of this magazine is for girls aged 15-19 as it has lots of written text that might not appeal to younger girls and the colours used wont attract the male audience

This magazine seems to write about lots of different music genres as it has names like Eminem, Taylor swift, lady gaga and Rihanna so there is a slight range in what they write about.

This magazine has shown me I probably shouldn’t use dull colours on the cover if I want to attract the audience to read the magazine.

Page 15: Analysing

The conventions used in this contents page are the use of a large image ,bold colours and fonts it has also advertised a deal for the magazine like others do another convention is the placement of the masthead and the colouring of the page numbers

This content page is extremely good at telling the reader what page things are on and has a detailed description of what's on the page and it is easy to spot the page number because of its bright red colour.

I cannot find any conventions that have been challenged. The target audience for this magazine is both female & male readers I know this because the

colours used are neutral and the band; arctic monkeys is liked equally by both genders. The music genre of this magazine is along the lines of rock I say this because of the fonts that

have been used and it has written about a number of different rock bands. This has shown me if I use all the traditional conventions the page will be effective but wont

attract the reader much.

Page 16: Analysing

This double page spread has many conventions like a bright and bold masthead and like many other double page spreads one half of the page has been covered by an image of who the DPS is a bout it has also used coloured subtitles and the normal placement of text

This page is effective at attracting the attention of the reader and once attracted it informs the reader very well with facts dates and story's.

Usually the artists in the image are wearing bright clothing but the band are all wearing simple colours, like other magazines it has used a quote from one of the artists but its placement of it is different as usually it is in a circle next to the image but this quote is placed over the text.

The target audience of this magazine is people aged 14-20 because it uses neutrall colours and the content wouldn’t be suitable for a 13 year old and also not many 13 year old listen to metal or hard rock.

The music genre this magazine writes aboutwould again be rock it is easy to spot because of the effect added to the font and the image of the band ‘rocking out’

This magazine has slightly shown me how and where to use effects on text.
