Bringing together systems and information

The former Health and Social Care Information Centre (known as The NHS Information Centre), a Special Health Authority closed in March 2013

Connecting for Health, responsible for the National Programme for IT, which until April 2013 was part of the Department of Health

Informatics functions from local Strategic Health Authorities and a Primary Care Trust

• Setting standards that protect patient’s confidential information, reduce bureaucracy and improve data quality

• Operating essential technology services that support the health and care system

• Collecting, analysing and publishing national data and statistical information that helps inform decision making

• Developing the next generation of national data and information systems

• Replaced NHS Spine with Spine 2• Transitioned Secondary Uses Service and Care Identity Service• Launched ‘My NHS’ beta on NHS Choices, NHS e-Referrals

Service, the Child Protection – Information Sharing service and NHS Pathways Mobile Directory

• Selected a supplier to develop and operate NHSmail 2• Continued to support the implementation of local systems via our

Local Service Provider teams• Maintained a very high level of operational integrity (99.97%)• Published 260 statistical publications• Participated actively in the “National Information Board”
