Wishing all the Mano Community a Happy Christmas and a Safe Holiday The 2017 school year has come to an end and the holiday period is upon us. Some comments from students who recently were the ‘Principal for the hour’ at Mano – SWPBS 150 token achievers. Wishing all a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Have a great holiday break and care for your family and friends. We hope your children loved ‘step up’ day. – Aaliyah Dargue JO Today is the last newsletter for 2017. Have a fabulous Christmas and holiday everyone. Just remember, have fun and be safe. – Poppy Carmichael ML Have a nice holiday. Have fun with your family and friends. Hope Santa comes to your house. – Siddarth Sivanesan PB I recently have supported eleven students across a range of year levels, each who have achieved 150 tokens and acted as the Mano Principal for an hour – they have performed many roles such as: made announcements, rung the bell, visited classes, taste tested canteen items, supported assembly, visited the newly refurbished classrooms, delivered Christmas presents and sought student opinions on matters such as fundraising expenditure.

Some Farewells to Announce At the end of each school year there will always be some community members who are leaving – obviously our Grade 6 students are graduating and heading off to a range of local secondary schools. We wish them all the best and are confident they will continue to ‘Unleash their Potential’. Some families will also be ending their connection with our school, some after quite a few years of continuous enrolment for their children – we hope you take away many positive memories of your family’s time at Mano.

We also have some staff to farewell – Ms Clutterbuck, Ms Roach, Ms Glenny, Ms Watts and Ms Lorensini. All will be working as teachers in 2018 in other schools and how lucky those schools are to have them. We thank all five valued staff members for their fabulous contributions to our programs over recent years.

Collection for GAWS – Geelong Animal Welfare Society Kayla Mackay initiated a collection for GAWS, which resulted in quite a large donation of cat and dog food. All donors received a ‘raffle ticket’ for their various contributions and the winner has been drawn and announced – congratulations and thank you to Sadie Hurst PB (a gift to be presented at assembly Friday). Thank you to all who supported this community cause and especially to Kayla for her thoughtfulness in assisting GAWS to manage their needs over the summer holidays.

Last Day Arrangements – Friday 22nd December Students will attend regular classes for roll marking and final reminders and duties. Assembly on the oval will commence around 9:15am and is expected to conclude at around 10:15am. Various presentations, announcements, farewells and musical items will be on the agenda for this assembly. Parents are welcome to sign their children out at the conclusion of this, with students who remain being dismissed at 2:30pm on this final day of the 2017 school year. A reminder that 2018 begins for staff on Monday 29th January, for Grades 1-6 Tuesday 30th January and classes for Preps Thursday 1st February.

Grade 6 Graduation Last night the Senior team put on a wonderful and memorable event, as we wished our Graduating Grade 6 students all the best for their futures – as they head off to a range of local secondary schools for Year 7, 2018. I’d like to acknowledge Clonard College for their generous support – use of their ‘Tullow Hall’. Some very special awards were presented last night and congratulations to these very deserving winners * Rotary Club Of Geelong West ‘Others before self’ award: Alaska Dowie * Christine Couzens ‘Leadership’ award: Mara Ellis * School Council ‘Resilience’ award: Jaymee Rhodes * Geelong HS ‘School Spirit’ award: Joshua Jovanovski & Makayla Laney * Richard Marles ‘Leadership and Community’ award: Matthew Jones * Thornton Engineering ‘Outstanding Academic Achievement’ award: Mason McKenzie * School Sport Victoria ‘Academic and Sporing’ award: Zac McInnes * Ben Newell ‘A big life’ Art award: Darcy O’Neill

Thank you for the toys! One of our very community minded and caring students (Sarah Ivey) recently promoted a toy collection appeal for the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal. Your donations have been boxed up and sent off to I’m sure some very grateful local families – giving children a big smile for Christmas!

Term 4 Unleashing Potential award winners Following on from the release of end of year Student Reports last week, on Monday at our assembly we presented these special awards. Nominated by the teams of teachers and for outstanding effort and commitment, we congratulate these students on their achievements: Prep: Sadie Hurst PB Juniors: Evan Foot JH and Nicholaas Spanninga JO Middles: Astrid Watters-Sansom MW Seniors: Miranda Exell-Bruce SV

New Student Leaders have been announced for Term 1 2018!School Captains: Chelsea Sears and Jack Greco House Captains: Manifold: Noah Woods. Strachan: Maliha Blake. Purrumbete: Slade Dingley. Narmbool: Sienna McInnes School Leaders: Luca Pilling and Jessica Burrows.

We can look forward to the new year with great confidence with these terrific young leaders in place.

Working Bee to Help get 2018 Started! SUNDAY 28TH JANUARY 9-11am is the next scheduled Working Bee. Please consider joining us to help ensure our grounds are ready for students to return for a new school year. Morning tea will be provided, children are welcome and please bring a friend!

Junior Building Refurbishment Project Works Update By the start of Term 1 next year we will have taken possession of three ‘new’ rooms for our Grade 1 classes. The Junior building toilets will be refurbished during January and should be completed for students to return. We will not have to conduct any Junior classes in the Multi in Term 1.

The General Office will be temporarily located in the current literacy storeroom – mid way along the Junior corridor, as builders will refurbish the Admin end of the Junior building in Term 1.

SAVE THE DATE : Manifold Heights Primary School will be holding its ‘Mano Carnivale’ on Saturday

28 April 2018 from 11am to 4pm. This is a community event so please ask your neighbours, family

and friends to pop this date on the calendar as ‘one event not to miss’.

For those families new to Mano, the ‘Mano Carnivale’ is held every two years and is a major

fundraising opportunity for the School, with all funds going towards new play spaces, the

upgrading of school facilities and improving the educational opportunities & experiences for all

Manifold Heights Primary School students.

Planning for next years Carnivale is well underway and is already promising to be a bigger and

better event than our very successful 2016 Mano Carnivale. However, as with organising any

event, it takes a lot of planning, hard work, support and the assistance from the entire school

community for the Carnivale to be a success.

So please, offer your assistance by coming along to a meeting, putting your hand up to be a team

leader or alternatively send us an email, text or call, we would love to hear from you. There are

many ways, big or small in which you can help, every little bit of help will be greatly appreciated.

What will be at the 2018 Mano Carnivale, you ask?

x5 RIDES/ACTIVITIES plus a fun side show alley and the ever popular ‘Dunk-a-Teacher’
