At the heart of humanity is connection. We are not

separate. We know this from the most established of

scientific theories (quantum mechanics and sh*t) to the

most “woo-woo” of spiritual philosophies (apparently,

everything is energy). But we don‟t always believe it, and

we certainly don‟t always practice it. In fact, we often

practice the opposite: disconnection and domination.

Why do we assimilate into dominant culture when we yearn

to be uniquely ourselves? Why do we relentlessly compare

ourselves to others when it makes us miserable? How do we

counter oppression without canceling the other (whomever

that other may be)? Why are we lonely in a world full of

people?

As Sebene shows us in YOU BELONG, accepting our

connectedness to one another is the surest way to

accepting ourselves. It‟s also the key to facing the many

challenges currently impacting our world. Full of practical

wisdom and profound revelations, this profound book

makes a winning case for resisting the forces that demand

separation and reclaiming the connection—and

belonging—that have been ours all along.

Sebene Selassie has studied Buddhism for over 30 years and

received a BA from McGill University in Religious and

Women‟s Studies and an MA from the New School

where she focused on cultural studies and race. For over 20

years Sebene worked with children, youth, and families na-

tionally and internationally for small and large not for profits.

Her work has taken her everywhere from the Tenderloin in

San Francisco to refugee camps in Guinea, West Africa. She

has been teaching meditation workshops, courses and re-

treats for over a decade and is a popular teacher on

the Ten Percent Happier app. She is proud to have served

on the boards of New York Insight Meditation Center,

the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies, and Sacred Mountain

Sangha. Sebene lives on unceded Lenape Territory in Brook-

lyn, NY with her partner and their dog.

“What does it mean to be a „good‟ parent in an age of

over-parenting? And why do so many of us assume if we

just do everything „right,‟ we can make the „perfect,‟

baby? With immense tenderness, intelligence, and humor,

Heather Lanier explores these questions. The result is an

arresting and beautiful book about the transformative

power of unconditional love. Everyone should read it.”

—Kim Brooks, author of Small Animals

Award-winning writer Heather Lanier's memoir about

raising a child with a rare syndrome, defying the tyranny of

normal, and embracing parenthood as a spiritual practice

that breaks us open in the best of ways.

Like many women of her generation, Heather Lanier did

everything by the book when she was expecting her first

child. She ate organic foods, recited affirmations, and

drew up a birth plan for an unmedicated labor in the

hopes that she could create a SuperBaby, an ultra-healthy

human destined for a high-achieving future.

But her daughter Fiona challenged all of Lanier's

preconceptions. Born with an ultra-rare syndrome known

as Wolf-Hirschhorn, Fiona received a daunting prognosis:

she would experience significant developmental delays

and might not reach her second birthday. Not only had

Lanier failed to produce a SuperBaby, she now fiercely

loved a child that the world would sometimes reject. The

diagnosis obliterated Lanier's perfectionist tendencies,

along with her most closely held beliefs about certainty,

vulnerability, God, and love.

Loving Fiona opens Lanier up to new understandings of

what it means to be human, what it takes to be a mother,

and above all, the aching joy and wonder that come from

embracing the unique life of her rare girl.

Heather Lanier is an essayist, memoirist, and poet. Her

nonfiction has appeared in Salon, The Southern Review,

The Threepenny Review, Fourth Genre, Brevity, Vela, and

elsewhere. She has received an Ohio Arts Council

Individual Excellence Award and a Vermont Creation

Grant. A graduate of Ohio State University's MFA program,

she's now an Assistant Professor of Creative Nonfiction at

Rowan University. Her TED talk, "'Good' and 'Bad' Are

Incomplete Stories We Tell Ourselves," has been viewed

over two million times.

What if finding inspiration was merely a matter of gazing

through a different lens or trying out a different

tool? Kickstart Creativity is a deck of 50 cards--each with a

creative exercise--designed to prompt unexpected con-

nections and liberated ways of thinking.

At the start of a personal challenge or work project, draw

three cards from this deck and reflect on how the random

spread relates to your current situation. Choose

an action card to learn a new skill, a perspective card to

see the world through a different lens, and

an intention card to influence more meaningful and mind-

ful choices.

Kickstart Creativity can be used by individuals or by groups

of teachers, students, co-workers, and other creative col-

laborators to shake up stymied ways of thinking. With in-

sight from creative rule-breakers and cultural philosophies

from bygone eras, Kickstart Creativity will shift your atten-

tion away from the pressure of productivity and toward the

path to creative freedom.

How can you raise your own children to be good with

money, when you're only just figuring it out for yourself? And

will they even listen? These questions haunt new parents as

they navigate the murky waters of teaching their kids about

money. Doug Nordman has been writing about personal

finance since he retired from the Navy almost two decades

ago. Now he has teamed up with his adult daughter, Carol

Pittner, to explain just how he and his wife raised her to be

"good with money."

Discussing several financial experiments that they tried at

different ages, both Doug and Carol share their experience

of what worked, what didn't, and what blew up in their

face. Raising A Money-Savvy Family For Next-Generation

Financial Independence provides actionable information

for new parents to use as their child grows and information

they can use to make sure they don't lose sight of their own

financial security too.

Doug Nordman retired at age 41 after 20 years with the U.S.

Navy‟s submarine force, and today is an enthusiastic surfer,

an omnivorous reader, a martial arts student, and a veteran

of many chaotic home-improvement projects. With his re-

tired Navy Reserve spouse, they raised their daughter, Carol

Pittner, in Hawaii.

“A revolutionary book on stock investing (and good

finance in general.”

—Peter Adeney (Mr. Money Mustache)

“Every investor should read this book and absorb its

wisdom.”

—Jesse Mecham, founder and CEO, You Need a Budget

Since money is the single most powerful tool we have for

navigating this complex world we‟ve created,

understanding it is critical. Unfortunately, benign neglect of

things financial leaves you open to the charlatans of the

financial world. These people make investing endlessly

complex because if it can be ma de complex it becomes

more profitable for them, more expensive for us, and we

are forced into their waiting arms.

Here‟s an important truth: Complex investments exist only

to profit those who create and sell them. Not only are they

more costly to the investor, they are less effective. The

approach created by Collins and presented in The Simple

Path to Wealth is not only easy to understand and

implement, it is more powerful than any other.

The Simple Path to Wealth covers:

Debt: Why you must avoid it and what to do if you

have it

How to think about money, and the unique way

understanding this is key to building your wealth

What the stock market really is and how it really works

Why the stock market always goes up and why most

people still lose money investing in it

How to invest in a raging bull, or bear, market

What the 4% rule is and how to use it to safely spend

your wealth

What financial independence looks like and how to

have your money support you

JL Collins, blogger at jlcollinsnh.com, is the author of the

hugely influential “Stock Series” (nearly 2 million page views

per year), a veritable Bible for the financial independence

and retire early (FIRE) community and anyone interested in

creating and maintaining wealth simply, easily, and

effectively.

“Dr. Tafur's timely book takes us on an enchanted

adventure through the emerging world of Amazonian

shamanism. All along the way, he engages the reader with

personal stories that illuminate his exciting and evolving

p h i l o s o p h y o f m e d i c i n e a n d h e a l i n g . ”

—Andrew Weil, MD, bestselling author of Spontaneous

Healing

Western medicine has not been particularly successful at

getting people relief from conditions like depression,

chronic pain, migraine headaches, addiction, and PTSD. Dr.

Tafur helps us to understand why.

People spend years in frustration and thousands of dollars

consulting an army of specialists, without getting real relief

from their problem—because these and others are diseases

deeply connected with the state of our emotional bodies.

Too often, the Western medical approach fails to address

the emotional dimension of illness. This is where traditional

plant medicines, with their ability to alter consciousness and

open channels of communication to our emotions, offer so

much promise.

Follow Dr. Tafur through the Amazon jungle as he develops

a breakthrough understanding of how psychoactive plants

interact with the complex network connecting our minds

and hearts to our physical anatomy. What is presented here

is nothing short of a paradigm shift for modern medicine,

where sacred plants, used properly in ceremony, take their

place as important tools in the doctor‟s medicine chest,

offering the missing elements of emotional and spiritual

healing that have eluded us for so long.
