10-Day Training Programme for Training of PRTs & HMs

of Puducherry Government as Master Trainers

Pioneering Training at Puducherry (21st November 2014 to 30th November 2014)

The leading edge to all Training endeavors of KVS, ZIET, Mysore for the year 2014-15 was the 10-day

Workshop organized for the benefit of the PRTs and HMs of Puducherry Government Schools to train them

as Master Trainers. What started as an experimental and pioneering endeavor turned into a milestone and

    a benchmark in training.

It all started when the officers from the State Department of Education, Government of Puducherry,

approached KVS, ZIET, Mysore with a request to depute the ZIET Faculty to train the primary teachers of

the UT. The plan was to train a team of 40 handpicked teachers, who in turn would train all the primary

teachers in the Govt. Schools of the UT in a cascade mode. The training need emerged when the Govern-

ment, in a radical move, decided to adopt NCF 2005 curriculum and the NCERT textbooks for the primary

    classes.

The training was conducted at KV , No.1 Puducherry which made available adequate infrastructure and

technical support. Shri. S.Balasubramaniam, the Principal, officiated as the Venue Director. The Training

Team was led by Miss. Sahaya Mary, HM, Faculty, ZIET Mysore. The three Resource Persons- Mrs. B.

Jyothi, HM, KV , CLRI, Mrs. Kamla Murti, PRT, KV , CLRI and Mrs. Shyamala, PRT, KV Anna Nagar

were all selected from Chennai Region to meet the objective of training the teachers using both English

    and Tamil.

The training was designed completely at KVS, ZIET Mysore, under the guidance of Dr. E.T. Arasu, DC &

Director. Accordingly, the Training Team was invited to ZIET, Mysore for a thorough and methodical pre-

workshop orientation where a clear roadmap was evolved, with a focus on 5-E Design of Model Lessons to

be delivered in English, Maths & EVS. A comprehensive Course Material of about 200 pages was

designed and published by ZIET, Mysore. The Courseware was designed to be used ―in Training‖ and con-

tained the content and complete methodology for cascade training.

The Training was launched in great style by Dr. E.T.Arasu, Director, ZIET Mysore, Secretary of Education

Govt. of Puducherry and the top officials of the Education Department and state SSA, in a colorful

inaugural function at the Venue—KV, No.1, Puducherry.

The Training was built around the principles of TOT- Training of Trainers, it was totally participatory.

The main challenge was to instill faith and conviction in the curricular fundamentals and a positive attitude

towards the change brought in by the government in the teachers deputed for the course. This Vision and

beginning with the end in mind was totally directional and the training moved flawlessly along.

The participants were also initiated into basic Training essentials to equip them for the challenges ahead in

transferring training to their peers. Along with post training data and summary report, recommendations

on the format for cascade training was submitted to the officials of the UT. Accordingly, it was suggested

that Training Teams be set up for collaborative Training rather than reposing the responsibility on a sin-

gle Master Resource Person. This proved to be productive insight leading to huge successes in effective

and efficient cascade training 38 of the 40 MRPs completed the Course and within a period of six months

had completed the entire cascade training. The training, according to the Government officials, was a

landmark achievement as it was a challenge to shift to NCF 2005 & NCERT Syllabus from the earlier sylla-

bus which had been in existence for a long period of time.

As a trainer, it was very challenging because of the context of training since the knowledge, skill sets and

attitudes to learning of the target group of teachers were unknown. The Training was an immense personal

learning experience which reiterated that ―faith can indeed , move mountains.‖
