MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

I sincerely want to thank and acknowledge all of our donors, supporters, our Foundation Board, sta� and volunteers for their combined and determined passion. We are only as strong as our donors, and we sincerely appreciate every supporting e�ort.

I’m happy to tell you that our support of the Fraser Valley is stronger than ever. In the face of ongoing change, the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation is embracing the transformation of the ways we connect and support to improve the health and vitality of patients.

Our year has been filled with great triumphs. The Pediatric Observation Unit at Chilliwack General Hospital was completed with murals and specialized equipment. Patients receiving care at Fraser Canyon Hospital can rest easy on new isogel mattresses. TRIM residents can now feel the love of a pet without the complications of a live animal; as PARO therapeutic robot has been added in Mission. Our whole region will benefit from the education and training available to our health care professionals at the Simulation Lab now open at Abbotsford Regional Hospital; the potential benefits to patients from these advances help create the future of health care.

In the coming year, the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation will be concentrating on the much needed replacement of CT Scanners at Abbotsford and Chilliwack hospitals. Additionally, we will be reviewing the equipment needs for Mission and Hope. With the help from our generous community we will make these equipment needs a reality.

I speak for our foundation board when I say we are grateful for the opportunity to enhance health care in the Fraser Valley. We sincerely welcome and appreciate your support and participation in our e�orts. MissionFraser Valley Health Care Foundation works with the

community to support the local hospital, facilities and programs run by Fraser Health.

Abbotsford Regional Centre for Health Education and Simulation

Opened in April 2018, the Abbotsford Regional Centre for Health Education and Simulation at Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre is a state-of-the-art regional education centre that provides advanced supplementary training for medical staff to help ensure that communities in the Fraser Valley continue to receive top-level medical care.

In all patient visits in Canada, errors complicate over seven percent of those visits. This is why we partnered with the Fraser Health Authority and the Abbotsford Division of Family Practice to raise $500,000 for the construction of this facility.

The Importance of the CT Scanner

The CT Scanners at Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre and Chilliwack General Hospital are near the end of their useful lives. These scanners are used 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Over 44,000 patients in our region undergo scans annually, and they are critically important in providing the best available care to our communities. Doctors use them for abnormalities discovered on routine x-rays or ultrasounds, deeper investigations into symptoms like back pain or dizziness and for quickly examining patients who may have internal injuries from car accidents. CT examinations are fast and simple. In emergency cases, they often reveal internal injuries and/or bleeding quickly enough to help save a patient’s life.

A CT Scanner uses computerized tomography to combine a series of X-ray images taken from different angles and uses computer processing to create cross-sectional images, or “slices”, of the bones, blood vessels and soft tissues inside your body. This data is used to produce 2-dimensional images of a section of the body, which can also be used to construct 3-dimensional images.

This is expensive technology and it is also costly to maintain. With the support of donors like you we are aiming to complete fundraising for this project by spring 2019.
