Isn’t it Wonderful to know that Great Things Are Happening?

Just open a newspaper, or turn on the evening news, and you can start to feel a little deflated. Bad newsseems to be everywhere. So, here’s some wonderfulnews from LifePath to lift your spirits!

A little girl who had sustained a head injury in a car accident received the care she needed and returnedhome to her family. A little boy’s family needed to learnhow to take care of his complex respiratory issues. This family received the training they needed and theboy was able to leave a pediatric facility and return home. Both of these kids are doing great!

And there’s more good news!

A little boy overcame a speech impediment and he was able to enter school without being teased andmade to feel unwelcome. A young man from a troubled household received the support he needed togo back to school and get his GED. He then went on to get a job. Imagine his pride when he broughthome his first paycheck. With a new sense of purpose, he continues to go to work every day.

Another young man was so anxious that he could not ride in a car without being medicated. He is nowgoing out daily without medications and has taken on the responsibility of shopping for his household.

We helped an individual return home from the hospital instead of going to a nursing home. Just this week, fifteen senior citizens with disabilities participated in aerobics classes and worked on their cardiac fitness.

I’m telling you these stories because I don’t think people hear enough good news and we don’t oftenhear about the great accomplishments of our dedicated LifePath staff. During a visit to a nursing home, a LifePath nurse recognized that a woman did not look well. A rush to the emergency room determinedthat she had become toxic on her medication. Someone making a simple visit saved her life.

While many of the people LifePath serve are still facing obstacles, it’s important to recognize and celebrate our many successes. These life changing accomplishments define what LifePath means.Every once in a while, after taking on a new challenge, I hear our staff say, “This is what LifePath is allabout”. They are right!

Generous contributions from the community have recently allowed LifePath to purchase equipment tohelp people who have mobility needs. Contributions are also allowing us to purchase equipment to helppeople who have communication needs. For instance, our efforts made it possible for a little boy whocan not speak to tell us when he needs help. Soon he will be ableto tell us much more!

Good news feels great! Thank you for helping LifePath to dogreat things and for allowing me to share such good news.

Many heartfelt thanks for your support.

Jenny Jill Bender

was a nursing assistant at ourRidge Crest pediatriccare facility when

she passed away at a young age last fall. Jenny dedicated her lifeto the children at Ridge Crest. In her memory, her generousfamily donated more than $8000 worth of positioning equipmentto the facility and placed three small angel statues in the garden.

Recent grant funding has allowed LifePath to purchasemobility equipment for several of its programs. This equipmentprovides the support necessary for people to live longer in thecommunity with enhanced safety and quality of life.

We are installing wireless internet connections throughout theSellersville Day Service and Ridge Crest so that these locations canbeta-test new consumer information systems for potential use inthe rest of the agency.

Once a month, approximately 50 consumers from our Lehigh adult dayprogram participate in a group outing to the Roxy Theatre in Northampton.Consumers enjoy their lunch at the theatre while taking in one of the latestmovies. Everyone has a wonderful timeand appreciates the accommodationsmade for them by theatre owner,Richard Wolfe.

Bucks County supported living coordinator, Jon Golden andthree of his consumers visit The Pathway School in Norristownfor students with special needs every month to speak abouttheir experiences living on their own, having a job and beingactive in their communities.

Twice a week, the Allentown YMCAprovides an exercise group forconsumers 55 years of age and olderat the Lehigh Adult Day Program. Thegroup is just one of LifePath’s healthand wellness initiatives. Staff havealso been receiving training from

the “Y” to increase exercise in other programs.

Stephanie and Emily, two students at

our Ridge Crest pediatric care facility. The show raised $800 andRidge Crest residents took part in the show. The monies will beused toward a new mural in Ridge Crest’s day room.

LifePath programs

provide wonderful learningopportunities for studentspursuing careers in the disability field. Our Lehighadult day program has hostedstudents from the local intermediate unit, and Lehigh

County Community College's Ocupational Therapy program.

A Foundation gift is being used to purchase communicationequipment to help people express their needs and wishes.By providing consumers the tools they need to facilitate moresubstantial interaction, we can help people build their self-esteem,self-motivation, independence and social connectedness. Recently,a 13-year old with disabilities was provided equipment to help himcommunicate to his teachers at school. Prior to being providedwith this equipment, the young man was unable to convey evenbasic human needs. People who haven’t been able to speak arelearning to use new voices.

Some of the great things we're doing

with donor support:

Pottsgrove High School recently held a talent show to benefit

There are many ways to help make a difference in the lives of some of our most vulnerable and underrepresented citizens:

Contribute to LifePath’s annual fund to ensurethat your gift goes to work immediately where it is needed most. Consider multi-year gifts.

Include LifePath in your estate plans, annuity or charitable trust to help provide for the longevity of our organization.

Attend and/or sponsor one or more of LifePath’s threeannual fundraising events. These events allow LifePathto generate much-needed funds for our programs and services, as well as increase our presence in the community.

Transfer your stocks to LifePath and make a meaningful gift to our organization while enjoyingmany tax benefits.

Volunteer your time to visit with LifePath’s consumers, siton an event planning committee, become a board member

or help to perform lightmaintenance work at anyone of our many residentialprograms.

Urge our elected officials tosupport important legislationthat provides much-neededfunding for organizationslike LifePath.

Participate in youremployer’s matchinggift program todouble or even tripleyour gift to LifePath.

Pay tribute to afriend or loved onewith a memorial orhonorarium gift toLifePath in theirname.
