Greetings from Our President Rev. Willie E. Jones
To the officers, moderators, pastors, preachers, members, and friends
of the East Mississippi Baptist State Convention. As we convene for
the 122nd Annual Session of the East Mississippi Baptist State
Convention in Collinsville, Mississippi at the Friendship Missionary
Baptist Church, the Rev. Chester Davis, Pastor, I greet you in the name
of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If you will, allow me the pleasure
to thank the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church of Meridian,
Mississippi and their fine pastor, Rev. Walter Patrick for being such a
splendid host for our last session.
“Teamwork Truths to Live By”
Dr. Edward E. Rogers
1. Teamwork divides the effort and multiplies the effect. Teams maximize a leader’s
potential and minimize his or her weaknesses. Strengths and weaknesses are exposed
in individuals.
2. Talent wins games, but teamwork wins championships. Individuals play the game, but
teams win championships.
3. Teamwork is not about you.
In order to have a winner, the team must have a feeling of unity. Every player must put
the team first, ahead of personal glory.
4. Great teams create community.
All effective teams create an environment where relationships grow and teammates
become connected to one another. They create a sense of community.
5. Adding value to others adds value to you.
When the most talented person has the mind to serve, special things happen.
Your Servant In Christ,
Rev. Willie E. Jones, President

Pastor Vernon J. Graves Vernon James Graves was born to the late Bertha Graves Ainsworth in the small town of
Hebron, MS on August 29, 1958. He was licensed to preach the gospel on June 13, 1981
and ordained on October 10, 1982. For a total of 29 years and counting, Dr. Vernon
James Graves has served as pastor of Calvary Baptist Church located in Laurel, Ms.
However, yielding to God’s will for his life, Pastor Graves accepted pastorship at
Ebenezer Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for five years after which he
returned to Calvary Baptist Church to continue God’s vision for his people.
Pastor Graves graduated from West Jones High School in 1977 but later pursued his
secondary education at Southeaster Baptist College in Laurel, MS where he earned a
Bachelor of Science degree in Religion and Philosophy. He went on to earn his Master of Divinity degree from
AP Clay Christian Theological College and upon completion of further studies; he received his Doctorate of
Theology & Divinity from AP Clay Christian Theological College as well. He is an instructor with Lift Bible
Crusade College and was certified as a Biblical Counselor at Christian Research Development Training
Institute. Pastor Graves is a powerful and anointed messenger, teacher and speaker. His voice and unique view
into Christian living offers diverse groups a meaningful lens for examining and empowering their lives. Pastor
Graves’ message of being an accepting, loving, inspiring, compassionate, visioning and encouraging
congregation is one that involves a ministry of discipleship, mission and transforming the soul of the
community. He says, “Calvary Baptist Church exist to promote the cause of Christ, to shine as a beacon light in
the city and community wherein it resides, to love God and our fellowman as He commanded, and to bring
eminent glory to the name of God fulfilling the five-fold purpose of the Church. Which is to: Edify, Encourage,
Exalt, Equip and Evangelize that His will may be done and that His kingdom may come.” Calvary Baptist
Church has experienced phenomenal spiritual growth under the leadership of Pastor Graves resulting in such
things as: increased church membership, strategic partnerships, acquisition of land for the future home of a
Family Life Center that is destined to become an agent of change, and the burning of the church mortgage.
Pastor Graves has severed on numerous boards to include: Current President of Laurel/Jones County Baptist
Ministerial Alliance, City of Laurel Elections Commission, Pearl River Valley Opportunity Board Member,
Dean of Congress of Christian Education, and Fair Commission Board. He was recently appointed as
Mississippi National Baptist Convention Evangelical Board as Chairperson. He has also been afforded the
opportunity to speak at the National Baptist State Convention. Pastor Graves’ vision and leadership have rippled
through the community and abroad. As a noted guest minister and evangelist at community events and
conferences, his progressive and relevant message has reached thousands. While masterful at articulating issues
facing Christians, he also has the wonderful ability to localize the word to speak to people right where they are.
He has been called reverend, preacher, teacher, and friend. God has gifted Pastor Graves as an agent of change.
It is his prayer that fellow believers will partner with him in transforming the community through preaching,
teaching, evangelism, and discipleship.
Pastor Graves was married to the late Diane Bester Graves for approximately 37 years. He is the proud God
Father of Roslyn & Chris Haskin as well as numerous others that he considers his very own.

Rev. Dr. Isiac Jackson, Jr. President of the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Mississippi, Inc.
Reverend Dr. Isiac Jackson, Jr. began his formal education at Rogers High
School in Canton, Mississippi, receiving his high school diploma in 1965. He
attended Prentiss Junior College for two years and completed his
undergraduate education at Alcorn State University where he attained a
Bachelor of Sciences degree in Elementary Education in 1973.
Before becoming a Minister of the Gospel, Rev. Jackson taught in the
Canton Public School System for years. He worked as a Supervisor with the
Madison County Food Stamp Office; an Instructor at the Mississippi Baptist
Seminary, served as a Justice Court Judge in Canton, Mississippi and worked as a Drug Coordinator
for Canton Public School System. Rev. Jackson has served as Moderator for the Madison County
Baptist Association, Executive Secretary of the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of

"…. And He said unto them, Go ye into the world, and preach the gospel to every creature (St.
Mark 16:15). 'Every individual on God's earth feels that they are in charge of their destiny and that
they know what is best for them. God, being as mighty as He is, sometimes has other plans for us.
Until our faith is accepted, there is often a constant struggle between God and man—with God
being the victor.'" After the struggle was over, Isiac Jackson began his ministry in 1978. "Study to
show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the
word of truth (Timothy2:15)." Reverend Jackson elected to further his knowledge in the teachings of
the Almighty at the Reformed Theological Seminary, Jackson, Mississippi, where he received a
Master of Divinity Degree.
Reverend Jackson also received his Doctor of Ministry degree in May 1999 from Reformed
Theological Seminary. His dissertation for the degree is entitled the "Discipling of Black Men Within
the Local Church".

married to Ora Jackson and they have three children: Michal, Ghika (George), and Isiac, III.
