What does it mean to be a Title 1 School? Being a Title 1 school means receiving federal funding (Title 1 dollars) to supplement the schools existing programs. These dollars are used forIdentifying students experiencing academic difficulties and providing timely assistance to help these students meet the States challenging content standards. Purchasing supplemental staff/programs/materials and suppliesConducting parental involvement meetings/trainings/activitiesRecruiting/Hiring/Retaining Highly Qualified TeachersBeing a Title 1 School also means parental involvement and parents rights.

Targeted Title 1 Schools vs. Schoolwide Title 1 Targeted Schools all students are screened and the students struggling the most are provided Title 1 services.

Schoolwide Schools Being a Title 1 Schoolwide Program means that all students are eligible to be recipients of Title 1 services. How Does Our School Receive Title 1 Funds? Schools receive Title 1 funding based on the percentage of students receiving free and reduced meals. The higher our percentage of students who qualify for free and reduced priced meals the more money we qualify for. What is the LEA Title 1 Plan?The LEA Title 1 Plan addresses how the LEA will use Title 1 funds throughout the school system. This is a piece we will be revising for this school year. We may ask some of you to be at the table for the development of this document. How can I volunteer to assist my student with school needs? Make sure your child/children are in school every day possible.Check that homework is completed.Monitor the amount of television watched.Volunteer to help the classroom teacher with things such as cutting things out, reading to the class, assisting on party days or field trips or collecting items needed for class projects.Be aware of your childs extracurricular time and activities.Stay informed about my childs education by reading all communications from the school and responding appropriately.Join the districts PTO.

You, as Title 1 Parents, have the right to request the qualifications of your childs teachersYou can make a request through your building principal or superintendentHow will I be notified if my child is taught by a teacher who is not Highly-Qualified?

The districts DESE report card shows that 97.8%of classes/courses were taught by Highly Qualified Teachers last school year, however after calling DESE it was determined that one staff member was incorrectly coded on core data and 100% of our staff members are Highly Qualified for the position they teach. We will again have 100% of our staff Highly Qualified for the 2015-16 school year.

Notification to parents regarding teachers not meeting ESEAs requirements for Highly-Qualified- A letter is mailed to the students home if the child has a teacher that is not Highly Qualified.
